From the President As many of you may have heard on the news, there has been talk of a new Wind Farm being built in Clay County. While some are very interested in having it built many are opposed and for good reason. North Texas Home Builders Association as a whole is not taking a stand for or against the Wind Farm but the Government Affairs Committee has been reaching out to stay educated on what is happening. The Wind Farm is a great concern to SAFB which in turn can cause concern for the economy of Wichita Falls. According to a story written by Matt McCullock on Texomashomepage.com, base officials say the location of the new turbines could interfere with SAFB flight training because of the proximity to flight paths and possible interference with radar. This interference becomes a major concern for the safety of the pilots when tracking aircraft. The base says they are informing residence and the wind farm company that if the wind farm is built both pilot safety and the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Program that has been at Sheppard for 35 years can be at risk. “What makes us special is we teach Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Program here where 13 nations from Euro-NATO partners come to train,” said Lt. Col. Mitchell Cok. “Some of them exclusively train their fighter pilots here. It’s the only base in the world that does this kind of training. Continues on page 6
