Futurist Jamais Cascio has created five plausible scenarios, each set in the year 2045, for reaching the internationally-agreed upon goal of eliminating nuclear weapons. This collection is not only a valuable thought experiment that supports common efforts to create a better future for our children and grandchildren. The scenarios, alternatively fascinating, terrifying and hopeful, highlight specific areas where innovation is urgently needed—not only in new technical approaches to global security issues, but also in regard to belief systems, institutional norms and the role of public education to ensure that the leaders of tomorrow are knowledgeable about and engaged in this issue.
