Message from the Premier Congratulations to the esteemed Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra on their 20232024 season. The NSO is a cultural arts institution in Newfoundland and Labrador. Its ambitious and varied programming each year attracts regular audience members, and new fans alike. Over the last number of years, their inclusion of performances based on iconic pop culture have been met with enormous popularity and have drawn audiences of all ages. The NSO has a strong commitment to community partnerships, reaching over 10,000 students in 2022-23 with their in-school, virtual and interactive programs and providing online concerts, free of charge, to more than 80 senior’s homes. Congratulations, as well, to Marc David, now in his final full season as Music Director, on his outstanding artistic achievements during his long career with the NSO The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is a proud supporter of the NSO and values its contributions to our province’s arts and cultural sector. All the best for a successful season.

On behalf of Council, it is my pleasure to congratulate the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra on its 61st Anniversary, Celebrating the year of the Arts. The City of St. John’s is a proud supporter of the arts and of this vibrant organization. With multiple performances every season, the educational experiences and entertainment provided to all ages is amazing. This season promises to entertain like no other and we are extremely fortunate to have talented musicians as the heartbeat of our musical community whom are there to share their talent and love of music with us all. The NSO board, staff, volunteers and sponsors work diligently each and every year to bring these shows to our community. Kelly-Ann Evans is an award-winning performer, producer, director and music

educator. Owner/operator of Rock City Studio, she coaches voice and piano, facilitates performance workshops and directs a women’s choir. She is also owner/ artistic director of Red Dress Entertainment, which produces and tours pop, rock and soul reviews including Queen, The Women of Motown, Fleetwood Mac, and many more. Kelly-Ann is a former faculty member of The Graham Academy in Corner Brook, NL where she taught musical theatre and assisted in the choral program. She is a multiple MusicNL award winner (Pop/Rock Artist of the Year & Female Artist of the Year) and ECMA nominee. Select theatre credits include the original Canadian company of Queen’s musical We Will Rock You (Mirvish), Cabaret and The Trojan Women (Stratford), Next to Normal (Best Kind Productions), Evita, Rock of Ages, Cats, Chicago and Jesus Christ Superstar (TaDa! Events). Kelly-Ann has toured the country in The Wild Rovers and No Change in the Weather and continues to work as a resident artist and music director with Terra Bruce Productions.

Adrienne Fitzgerald (vocals) graduated from Memorial University and is a long-time member of internationally renowned choir, the Quintessential Vocal Ensemble, performing across Canada and Europe and at Carnegie Hall. Adrienne is also a founding member of International award winning vocal sextet Afterglow. Credits include Vocal Director, Choral Director, and Performer in productions such as Our Divas, Evita, White Christmas, Alice in Wonderland, Queen, Hits of the Brits, Fleetwood Mac, Laurel Canyon and NSO’s Big Band shows. Adrienne is thrilled to be rejoining the NSO to sing Queen!

Vicki Harnett (vocals) Thrilled beyond words to be singing these Queen tunes, alongside these singers, and with this orchestra and

band, Vicki Harnett most certainly needs help in counting all the beautifully lucky stars that aligned to make this Winter Pops possible! A Resident Artist with Terra Bruce Productions, Vicki was last seen in their production of The Wild Rovers, as well as Christmas At The Majestic. She had the pleasure of singing with the NSO in the 2023 Big Ticket: The Music of The Night, and will be back again for this year’s Big Ticket: A Night At The Oscars. Many thanks to everyone, onstage and off, who helped to bring this evening together, and to her nearest and dearest for their love and support.

Steve Maloney (vocals) is an actor and balladeer, known for his velvet-tinged baritone and expansive range. He has toured across

Canada – opening for Wintersleep, Joel Plaskett, Hey Rosetta!, Amelia Curran, and more along the way. Festival stops have included Halifax Pop Explosion, The NL Folk Festival, Stan Rogers Folk Festival, and more. Maloney can be heard on various records as a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and/or producer, including collaborations with Tim Baker, Nico Paulo, Rube & Rake, and many more. Maloney has also been fortunate to perform with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra as a featured vocalist. He has won multiple awards from MusicNL, the 2018 Borealis Music Prize, and has been nominated for ArtsNL and East Coast Music Awards. As an actor, he has been involved in a variety of theatre and television work, from Hudson & Rex (CityTV), to the musical RENT, to touring Canada with Artistic Fraud’s production Between Breaths. He is currently a resident company member of Terra Bruce Productions.

Steve Power (vocals) has been involved in the St. John’s music industry for over 20 years. He has performed with a variety of bands

and musicians all over the province. He has been onstage with the NSO many times including singing the songs of Michael Bublé and has performed backup vocals for shows featuring Jodee Richardson, Kelly-Ann Evans and Mark Murphy. When Steve is not onstage, he can often be found behind the scenes in particular, as the Production Manager of the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra. His love of computers and technology has fueled his interest in everything from lighting and sound to photography and video editing.

Frank Fusari (bass) Originally from Kitchener, Ontario, FRANK FUSARI has been living and working as a musician in St. John’s

Newfoundland since 1995. Frank is the principal double bassist in the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra and has been with Spirit of Newfoundland since the year 2000. He has performed with many Newfoundland songwriters and musicians including The Atlantic String Quartet, Terra Bruce Productions, Shelley Neville, Alan Doyle, Shallaway, Pat Boyle, Sandy Morris, Opera on The Avalon, Artistic Fraud of Newfoundland, Duane Andrews, Sean Panting, and many others. In the summer 2023 Frank played electric bass in the musical Come From Away in Gander. Frank also plays the theremin, and the accordion.

Scott Mansfield (drums) has been a performer on the St. John’s music scene for over 37+ years. He has appeared on over 45 studio

recordings and in countless theatre productions for TaDa, Red Dress Entertainment, Spirit of Newfoundland, Theatre St. John’s among others and was most recently part of the Gander production of Come From Away. He spent 6 years as musical director and orchestra musician for Royal Caribbean International, working with many high profile celebrity acts such as Rita Moreno, The Platters, Ben Vereen, The 5th Dimension, The Marvelettes, Susan Anton, The Monkees, Clint Holmes, John Pinette, Carol Lawrence, Anna Maria Alberghetti, Peter Noone (Herman’s Hermits), Dan Aykroyd, Sha Na Na, Buddy Greco, Jack Jones, Petula Clark, The Coasters, The Drifters and Norm Crosby to name a few. He has also worked locally with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra for over 30 years in their many Big Band and Pops concerts. He has worked in countless and varied musical settings both locally and worldwide.

Grant King (guitar) holds a Bachelor’s degree from Berklee College of music, Boston, MA and a Masters degree from Longy School of Music, Cambridge, MA. His guitar trio, Big Space, won the 2023 ECMA for jazz recording of the year. He also takes on sideman duties for artists like Kellie Loder, Tim Baker, and has been a member of the Pathological Lovers and the Monday Nights. He has scored several films and tv shows and won best score at the Atlantic and Nickel film festivals for his score of Jordan Canning’s film Not Over Easy. He is currently the senior sound and music producer for M5 the agency, where he has composed and produced countless pieces for ads. Grant has also performed in many theatre productions including Jesus Christ Superstar, Rent, We Will Rock You, and several others, as well as several productions with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra.

Brian Way (piano) Originally from Gander, NL Brian has worked for the past thirty years in the music industry as a performer, arranger,

collaborative accompanist, adjudicator, guest performer, producer, actor, music director, and private music teacher. Brian has appeared on over thirty album projects and over the years has been musical director for many musicals such as Chicago, Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, Crazy For You, Our Divas Do Christmas, and Gypsy to name a few. Brian has also produced music for television, radio, and various recording artists. During the past ten years Brian has produced and performed in many touring tribute concert events across the province such as the George Jones Tribute show, Merle Haggard, The Highwaymen, Ray Charles, Glen Campbell, Willie Nelson, The Best of Chicago, The Very Best Of James Taylor, and Brother Ray Charles, to name a few. Brian has been the music/choral director at St. David’s Presbyterian Church since June, 2014.
