Our work in the community

The West Vancouver Foundation receives donations from local philanthropists and community members, and is then able to provide funding to local charities, through various granting programs, to support programs that address community needs. As a community foundation, we understand the North Shore and the Greater Sea-to-Sky region – from the local issues and needs to the people and organizations doing the best work to address these issues. Using information gleaned from our Vital Signs research and experience, you can trust us to help you make a significant impact. For this year’s Give Where You Live campaign we have selected eight local charities to support. When you donate by Dec. 31, 2022 through our site, your donation will be matched by funds at the Foundation, doubling your giving!* This year’s Give Where You Live participants are: • 365Give, Student Leadership Program • Avalon Recovery Society, Counselling Program • Family Services of the North Shore, Christmas Bureau • Harvest Project, Care Program • Kay Meek Arts Centre, Summer Youth Conservatory • North Shore Community Resources, Supporting Vulnerable

Seniors • Ocean Ambassadors Canada, PickUp3 North Shore • West Van Seniors Activity Centre, Feed the Need, Seniors Meal

Testimonial

“Avalon Recovery Centre has been the recipient of grants from the West Vancouver Foundation for many years now and we are very grateful. The funds have been used to support our addiction recovery services for women in North and West Vancouver. This year we were thrilled to be able to take part in their Give Where You Live campaign. ” - Kelly, Manager, Fund Development, Avalon Recovery Society

A recent story

The Seniors’ Activity Centre’s meal program, Feed The Need, began as the COVID-19 pandemic brought to light a genuine need among this community ’s most vulnerable seniors, who lacked the means to access regular meals. An initial $100,000 matching donation was provided by the Ian and Rosemary Mottershead Fund, at the West Vancouver Foundation in November 2020, in response to a need identified during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Since then, the West Vancouver Seniors’ Activity Centre continues to serve 300 meals per week to vulnerable seniors in West Vancouver. $270 can feed one senior for three months. Even the smallest gift can make an impact. Last year $75,000 was raised for the Feed the Need program, through Give Where You Live, and this year we’re hoping to raise even more! Our People

Our staff, board and volunteers are all from the North Shore region – from Bowen Island to North Vancouver.

Facts

In Canada, 66 per cent of all charitable donations benefit only 1 per cent of charities. It’s time to change that. Our Give Where You Live campaign is an annual program that brings together a community of giving from across the North Shore to support some incredible local charities. This exciting giving campaign empowers you to join others on the North Shore in supporting a select group of local charities. There are a range of projects in this year’s campaign including seniors, youth, arts, environment, health and wellness, and families.

“We are inspired by one simple goal: To make a difference through thoughtful, effective philanthropy. ”
