The province’s police watchdog is asking for witnesses to step forward after North Vancouver RCMP officers shot and killed a suspect following an armed robbery at the Westview Shopping Centre July 21. The civilian-led Independent Investigations Office is automatically tasked to review any incident in which a member of the public faces serious harm or death in their interactions with police. There were dozens of witnesses and cameras rolling in the busy plaza when the dramatic scene broke out just after 1 p.m. July 21. Perhaps no one had a closer view than Arman Abadi, a Good Samaritan who stepped in and wrestled a knife away from the suspect inside the McDonald’s. Abadi, a 31-year-old East Vancouver man, had stopped to get an iced tea. He realized something was wrong when he saw an erratic looking man behind the counter. “It immediately got a lot worse.
