Impact North Shore is a for-purpose, social impact organization standing strong on the scenic shores of North and West Vancouver. Every year, we touch over 8,500 lives, including im/migrants, volunteers, partners and staff, providing comprehensive and innovative services and community engagement opportunities that cater to the unique needs of im/migrants. With over 30 years of experience creating transformative change, we have supported thousands of newcomers in their journey to make Canada home. Our work is collaborative, focusing on strengthening the fabric of our community, making it a more inclusive and equitable space for all.
Impact North Shore provides a variety of comprehensive services for im/ migrants through our Immigrant Service Centre. We offer resources, information and skills training to support your unique im/migration journey. Our services include settlement and employment services, school support, community connections and English language learning opportunities, as well as specialized programs for families, women, youth, and seniors.
Impact North Shore centers the voices of racialized im/migrants to create spaces that build equity through interactive, community-led activities

and projects. We lead research, development and innovation projects and convene individuals and organizations to find accessible and adaptable solutions to improve inclusion.
Building relationships and connections between local service providers, longterm residents and im/migrants offers meaningful opportunities for learning, listening and reducing barriers to belonging

Azam Shamsi, Employment Services Specialist, and Sholeh Amirhosseini, Employment Settlement Worker. Azam and Sholeh work with clients at Impact North Shore, supporting them in their employment journeys in Canada.
SESSIONSUMMARY:
This employment-focused session introduces the concept of transferable skills: soft skills, functional skills, and technical skills, and explains how newcomers and immigrants can leverage everyday tasks and workplace scenarios to enhance employability.

Many newcomers and immigrants arrive in Canada with valuable education, training, and work experience, but may find that their career path in Canada looks different than expected. This breakout session introduces the concept of transferable skills and how they can support a successful job search, even when entering a new field or industry.
Presented by Impact North Shore, this employment-focused session explores types of transferable skills; participants will learn how these skills are developed through past work, education, volunteering, and life experiences, and how they can be applied across a wide range of jobs and workplaces. The session will include practical, realworld examples to help participants recognize their own skills and understand how employers value them in the Canadian labour market. Attendees will also receive quick tips, tools, and resources to help them communicate their skills more effectively on resumes, during interviews, and throughout the job-search process.
