auren and Tevyn seem to have a soft spot for sunny Mexico. Not only did Tevyn pop the question between two palm trees in La Cruz but the couple eventually tied the knot in San Jose del Cabo in August of this year. ➞

A DESTINATION WEDDING Was it love at first sight when they met at Library Square years before? “If I'm being honest, my first impression of Tevyn was that we probably didn't have a lot in common,” says Lauren. “But what stood out immediately was how genuinely kind and caring he was. The more I got to know him, the more I realized that those qualities mattered far more than any differences we thought we had. It didn't take long for me to discover that we actually had so much more in common than I ever expected.” Getting to know each other by long distance was the only option as Lauren took on a three-month contract in China shortly after they met. She and Tevyn shared “countless texts sent in the middle of the night for one of us and the early morning for the other. By the time I got home, it already felt like we knew each other.” ➞

A DESTINATION WEDDING

Once engaged, Lauren and Tevyn started planning their destination wedding at Acre Resort, Los Agaves in San Jose del Cabo. “Since our guests were staying at a beautiful beachfront resort nearby, we wanted the wedding itself to feel like a completely different experience. Our vision was for everyone to be whisked away into Acre's lush jungle oasis for an evening filled with love, incredible food, meaningful moments, and an unforgettable dance floor,” Lauren says. Since many of the guests were from Vancouver, the couple filled welcome bags with local Vancouver treats, plus bottles of mezcal from Acre's farm, and a personal, handwritten letter for every guest where Lauren and Tevyn could share how much it meant to them to have their loved ones join them in Mexico. Tevyn recalls seeing Lauren for the first time as a bride-to-be ready to share their vows. “It all made total sense, I had been wondering for months how she was going to look, or what her dress would look like and then when I walked around the corner it was ‘oh of course, that’s it!’ and all the nerves disappeared.” ➞

A DESTINATION WEDDING After the ceremony, a favourite part of their wedding day was the cocktail hour. As the sun slowly set a guitarist played, mango mezcalitas were sipped and guests nibbled on pork belly bao buns. The first dance was to Bread’s "Baby, I'm-a Want You" a romantic classic from the early 70s that just seemed to resonate with Lauren and Tevyn after listening to “what felt like a hundred different songs, searching for one that felt like us.” Do the newlyweds have any advice when it comes to planning a destination wedding? “We recommend hiring a day-of wedding coordinator. It was worth every penny and allowed us, our families, and our friends to be fully present and enjoy the day without worrying about the logistics.” That said, Lauren and Tevyn celebrated in style with everyone they love, dancing the night away under the stars. Sounds like the perfect way to start a happy married life. ◆ HITCHED | 2026 | 15

Sustainable Weddings PLANNING WITH THOUGHT AND CARE – MADE EASIER By Catherine Dunwoody Are you a couple seeking to reduce the impact your wedding has on the environment? Thoughtful choices make a valuable diﬀerence, and here are some ideas to consider.

LOCATION ✧ Booking one local wedding venue that can host both the ceremony and reception means that guests are not required to travel far and cuts down on emissions. ✧ Arrange for an EV shuttle for guests to limit number of vehicles driven that day, plus it’s appreciated since most will be celebrating and would prefer not to drive. ✧ Seek out a green-certiﬁed building to save energy, or plan as much outdoors as possible.

CATERING ✧ Hire local caterers who focus on organic, seasonal, local ingredients. ✧ A plant-based menu has a lower environmental impact. ✧ Serve local BC wines, spirits and craft beer. ✧ Have a plan in place to donate any extra food to a local shelter.

FLOWERS AND DECOR ✧ Book a florist who can source locally grown, seasonal flowers. Or, if you have a floral garden at home use those for table vases and skip the floral foam that does not break down. ✧ Arrange to donate the flowers next day to a senior’s extended care facility where they will be appreciated and enjoyed while still fresh. ✧ Book wedding décor companies that rent and reuse tables, chairs, and linens rather than buying new items.

BRIDAL GOWNS AND GROOM’S ATTIRE ✧ Shop at vintage stores and online for wedding dresses, and consider small alterations if need be. A gown worn one day by another bride is a fraction of the price of a new one too. Luxury resale boutiques have designer shoes and jewelry that are treasures to consider as well. ✧ Seek out tuxedo rentals for grooms and groomsmen vs. purchasing new and likely never wearing again. Or shop at vintage boutiques for gently used formal wear.
