“I moved here to be near my parents and for the beach lifestyle with my daughter 18 months ago,” says Emma. “My background is sales and marketing. I worked as the manager for Allied Press Publishers for the Mountain Scene in Queenstown and the Otago Daily Times throughout the South Island. “Before coming here, I worked for a tourism marketing company called

definitely the volunteers who give their time and expertise. “The building is in the shape of a stingray and I want to encourage people to come and see what we have on display. It surprises me how many people haven’t been here yet as there is so much to see and learn about our harbour. “We have a beautiful gift shop and at present, we have the Olympics, a New

Bookme. This is a slightly different role that was super appealing and I am pleased to be working as part of a community again. I don’t think you can get more community than this museum. “Emma Gray, my predecessor, has taken the museum to a really good place and my goal is to continue on from her and grow it to be self-funding as a nonprofit organisation. “My assistant manager Ana Gregg and the amazing team of volunteers are also ready to take the museum to the next level. We want to listen to the ideas the community has and go from there. “Our board has a diverse range of expertise and knowledge, which is really encouraging as well. For me, it is a new learning experience and I am excited to be thrown in the deep end. I go home every day considering what we can do next. When you see what we have here in the region, our strength is

Zealand story on display in the special exhibition room. This Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 2pm we are having a fundraiser with the Mangawhai Singers Group at the Community Centre in Fagan Place with tickets available at the museum. “The group has donated their time and the proceeds will help with things such as operating costs and maintenance. We also have a live night coming up on August 14 from 4–6pm. “It will be exciting as the museum will come to life with our volunteers dressed in character. It is $10 per adult with children under 12 free. “We couldn’t accomplish what we do without the support of the community and volunteers. “The board are volunteers as well. It blows me away how incredibly inspiring the team and community here in Mangawhai is.” ¢
