Linda estimates that she’s had around 60 to 70 students live with her, from countries such as Japan, Korea, Thailand, China, Germany, Austria and Brazil. She first began hosting Darfield High School international students after a friend suggested it. Linda started by having two Japanese boys stay with her short term and said she became hooked at that point. Linda has her own children, four daughters and a son, and said hosting had been a positive experience for her family. She said it helped her family learn about other cultures and gave them a reason to travel more in New Zealand as they highlighted what the country has to offer. “I’ve had a great run of kids. You can make lifetime friends with them.
