Blacktop Construction Ltd, which had a road resealing contract with Kaipara District Council, went into receivership earlier this month. Blacktop staff and managers were regular customers at hotels,
motels, cafes and restaurants, charging up accommodation and other costs, but last week’s receivership means these businesses are out of pocket and may never see their money.
One of the most impacted is Dargaville’s Northern Wairoa Hotel, which along with its sister hotel in Maungaturoto, is owed nearly $20,000. Manager Michael Collins says up to 25 Blacktop employees stayed between the end of April to the end of July. continued on page 3 …
