An international author, a nationally acclaimed poet, a library curator and special events such as a spelling bee all added to the experience. Paul Diamond, curator of the Maori collection at the Alexander Turnbull Library in Wellington visited the college along with well-known teenage fiction writer, Stacy Gregg, who conducted writing workshops, while poet, Paul Burrell, spent a morning with years 8, 9 and 10 at the college. Throughout the week English teacher, Sarra Harvey, ran a popular ‘all American style spelling bee’ competition and library manager Lisa Salter organised a caption competition.

Munn’s Furniture and Furnishings is the legacy of George Munn who opened his first store in Dargaville in 1936 with 400 pounds. Employing up to ten staff at its peak and with three generations of the family serving behind the counter — their success over the years is testament to friendly service, quality product and commitment to the community. Their customers have also spanned the generations. Families have loyally supported their local professionals down through the years and many a household in the Kaipara are proud owners of furniture and flooring from the Munn stores.
