p Dargaville Primary School students turned out in spots for a special mufti day last Friday; all in support of melanoma awareness and to raise money for the cause. They and their educators want to promote a positive message as we come into summer. Slip, slop, slap and wrap to stay sun-safe, and stick to the shade in the hottest part of the day. All money raised from this event will go toward preventing melanoma and seeking a cure.

Mangawhai Matters is the name of this alliance of residents, who wish to see sustainable growth that preserves the environment, character and infrastructural capacities of the town. “Even in its original consented form the development will, for better or worse, have a significant and permanent effect on the whole of Mangawhai,” says group spokesperson, Carol Lloyd.
“The developer is pursuing a private plan change (PPC78) that will effectively rewrite the planning rules and add a whole new high-density town between the heads and the village.” It represents the biggest development in the history of the Kaipara. “As such, it presents problems and challenges as well as growth opportunities.
“The council also needs to be able to develop a transparent and comprehensive Long Term Plan that outlines what works, amenities and services will be provided to ensure that the new town can be absorbed into the wider Mangawhai community,” say Mangawhai Matters members. continued on page 5 …
