graduation in Dargaville. The graduation ceremony was held at the Seed co-working space, and was followed by dinner at the Northern Wairoa Hotel. Dargaville local Whaea Katie Tito was the guest of honour and presented the students with their certificates and plaques. Graduates of the Professional Flax Flower Production Course were Shayna Rusbridge, Huia Ransfield, Maryrose Rangihuna and Trish Young. Eagles and Tanita Murray. Students could engage with this learning opportunity thanks to the power of modern technology and the ability to deliver education via live video link. This inaugural graduation is another success for Heather and Flax and Fibre, previous winners of a prestigious Northland Business Excellence Award. Students who have graduated from both courses will now have the skills to work sustainably with flax, creating beautiful and unique artwork and gifts. ¢

“Flax and Fibre celebrated the graduation of eight Professional Flax Floristry students,” says tutor and business owner Heather Carrigan. “The Flax and Fibre Flax Floristry School is the first of its kind, teaching through online lessons and mentoring. We teach students how to establish pā harakeke, sustainable, tikanga-based harvesting and flax flower production, dyeing, floristry and skills in establishing a small business.” Students came from as far as Australia and Hawke’s Bay to celebrate their
