Sir Jerry presented Dargaville identity Barry Searle with a Queen’s Service Medal for services to marine conservation, awarded in last years’ New Year’s honours list. Mr Searle had been unable to travel to Government House to receive it, and instead Sir Jerry presented the medal in his own living room, in the presence of friends and family. Mr Searle has spent decades campaigning to protect toheroa stocks on the west coast’s Ripiro
