After the resignation of Mayor Greg Gent the Kaipara District Council has announced a by-election will be held in January to find his replacement.

Mr Gent’s departure is effective from November 15 which means that under the Local Electoral Act 2001, where a vacancy occurs before November 20, 2017 the by-election cannot occur before February 17, 2018. Nominations will therefore open next month on November 24 and close at midday Friday December 22 before the postal voting period
