The 18-year-old Dargaville High School student has been awarded not one, but two scholarships from very separate New Zealand tertiary institutions — in Auckland and Dunedin. The unusual double means she will have to turn one of them down, no doubt delighting one institution and upsetting the other. Renee has just finished her final year at Dargaville High and wants to study physiotherapy. Accordingly, she applied for scholarships with the Auckland University of Technology as well as the Otago University. “I applied on the off chance. I didn’t expect to be successful. I applied because I could,” she said on learning of her unexpected choices.
