The vehicle was handed over by Forest Protection Services through the Kaipara District Council and it carries a much larger volume of water and storage for emergency equipment, compared with the brigade’s former transport, which has been retired. to have all our equipment in one spot making the job easier for the crew,” said acting chief Allan Crabb. “We often arrive at medical scenes before the ambulance crew arrive on site and we do extensive medical treatment. The old truck didn’t have the space to carry the equipment and we towed a trailer which slowed us down. “The brigade now has 19 volunteer members who have just completed extensive exams with all the crew passing. We look after our community and they look after us. We are a go
ahead area and are excited about the plans for the future.” These plans include the establishment of a Tinopai Emergency Services Centre, which will house the local branch of the North Kaipara Volunteer Coastguard and the fire party. The community is now fundraising for this as well as a seven-seater van so volunteer crew can travel together to call outs instead of cars as at present. After the ceremony the crew had a training session to familiarise themselves with the new vehicle. ¢
