p Some cars were a lot cleaner than others after being washed by keen year 7 and 8 players from the Otamatea AIMS Netball Team in Kaiwaka last Sunday. The carwash was to raise funds towards a $10,000 target that will help cover the cost of attending the week-long Anchor AIMS Games held in the Bay of Plenty region during September. The games give 11, 12 and 13-year-olds an opportunity to compete as an individual or in a team against the best of their age in 20 different sports. Organiser Jodi Bennetto was pleased with the fundraiser’s outcome: “The kids did really well today — it was a huge success.”

Emails were sent out last week from operator Sue Taylor to say that “after nearly nine years of operating the Dargaville and Kauri Coast Visitor Information Centre we have decided to close. “The Kaipara District Council operated an i-Site in the past, but when
they closed it we opened one next to the Woodturners Gallery; this way we could share the building, phone costs, eftpos costs etc, and of course, my time. The council didn’t fund us — we funded it ourselves. “We have offered the Kaipara District Council the opportunity to rent the
building so the Visitor Information Centre can remain open. We hoped that the council, who want more visitors/tourists to the Kauri Coast, would reopen the i-Site, but this hasn’t happened.” Ms Taylor said the closure would take effect from August 1. continued on page 3 …
