p Northern Wairoa senior women’s soccer team played Kerikeri Siteworx on the weekend. It is the first time NW have had a women’s team in four years. “Our team are doing exceptionally well, half of them play in the Dargaville High School team,” said club president Dharmendra Kumar. “Kerikeri won 2–1, and they appreciated the challenge we gave them as their previous wins have been in double figures. The senior men’s team is a development team. They played Tikipunga and won 7–2.”

Jean Johnson from Ray White Realty in Dargaville says there has been an increase in property’s selling to people moving in from outside the area. “Not just Aucklanders, but also those from other places including Tauranga, Oamaru, Kerikeri and some coming back from Australia,” she said.

“There has been no set pattern. Clients are looking for sections to build new houses on as well as those buying existing properties. We have quite a few of the older generation coming to Dargaville. It seems younger people are moving to east Kaipara, mainly for work opportunities.”

Ms Johnson added that Kaipara faced a similar sale and effect result as Auckland, in that a shortage of rental properties in the area is still a problem and the demand is big. “We have a long waiting list for those wanting to rent.” continued on page 3 …
