p Workers in safety harness scaled Dargaville’s Countdown Supermarket sign at dawn last Friday to recover security cameras belonging to the Dargaville Community Development Board, ahead of the entire monolithic structure being dismantled and moved to Auckland. A cherry picker lift was brought in to complete the job safely. Dargaville will soon have a new illuminated sign in place. In the meantime, the DCDB’s Sue Curtis was on hand to supervise the camera removal before the wide-angle CCTV system was moved to a new location for full coverage. The CCTV cameras relay back to a command centre in Dargaville’s police station, providing vital information to law enforcement for public safety.

Preliminary investigation has shown that increasing the capacity of the Waiatua Dam on Opanake Road may be the solution to end local water shortages. The council is to prepare a full investigation into expanding the dam.
