A motion by Cr Andrew Wade proposed that following plan deliberations, no final decisions be made before discussions are held with the Review Authority appointed by central government. The authority is expected to be named this week. “The review team will be able to look at the issue with fresh eyes and bring a whole new way of looking at things,” Cr Wade told council last Monday. He said now submissions were in, council was rushing through them too quickly and had not given them all due consideration. “There have been nearly 3,000 submissions. It’s impossible that all these have been read in just two days. Rather than spending one or two days patching up a mess, let’s just stop and think. It’s time we start accepting that we’ve made mistakes.” Cr Jonathon Larsen added: “There is no trust in council. I have seen people crying at submission hearings — there is a very high level of emotion out there. “Having concluded submission hearings Friday, June 8, the 230-page report was being emailed to councillors at 4.20pm. It is simply not good governance. How did staff have time to read the submissions? There  Dargaville ward councillor, Andrew Wade, giving a keynote address to council are volumes upon volumes of written submissions as well as the oral. This is not fair to submitters.” continue to find skeletons in the closet over the next few years Cr Julia Sutherland commented that people had gone to as we try to put things back together.” huge trouble to give submissions. Cr Wayne Linton added: “I am disappointed with the LTP, “I came here today to discuss not to decide,” said it is very clear that we got it wrong. We were elected to govern, Cr Sutherland. we’ve been asked to resign, it is now our time to stand up.” Deputy Mayor Julie Geange added: “The council have done Resource management consultant, Mark Farnsworth, (the LTP) process badly. The community cannot understand was invited to act as facilitator and advisor in the council’s the council’s decisions.” discussions. Cr Larsen added that there are still major problems with “Council needs to deal with the key issues methodically,” the LTP. “We have 400-500 Mangawhai ratepayers who are he told the meeting. set to not pay their rates.” “The plan in its current form is fundamentally flawed. If Council CEO Steve Ruru then foreshadowed more concerns. council continues to push forward, it will create a war like “There are a lot of issues that council is uncovering. We will you’ve never seen.”
