“The outstanding success of the Mangawhai Opportunity Factory is all about community,” says MCOST trustee, Dianne Christensen. “An amazing range of quality goods are donated to The Factory, sorted, priced and displayed by the staff and volunteers. Locals and visitors alike gain some amazing buys, providing the funds to return to the community. It’s a wonderful circle of support.” The shop has just had a mini makeover and to pick up big items or large lots from the community; the trust now has a sign written van lovingly known as Vanessa, that can also deliver larger purchases for a small cost. “Along with drivers, the factory has an enthusiastic group of volunteers, including shop assistants, clothing sorters, pricing specialist, and repairers along with the board members. “The Factory and trust welcome support in any way — The Factory is open seven days a week 9am–4pm at 5 Wood Street, Mangawhai Heads,” said Dianne. “More donations are very welcome and need to be brought in within opening hours, or feel free to phone 431 3098, to check if the items are suitable. There are some items that can’t be accepted.” Quality and saleable product donations including housewares, linen, kitchenware, furniture, art, pottery, clothing, bric-a-brac, jewellery, sporting goods, tools and toys are accepted. “We value the support we’ve received to

date! The interest has been huge, and we’d like to invite you to donate quality saleable goods. We’re also very keen to chat with anyone in the Mangawhai community who would be interested to work at The Factory on a volunteer basis. Hours can be flexible to suit. There will be another round of grants later this year for clubs or groups with an aspect for social benefit in the Mangawhai community. There are three grant options available: These are Mangawhai for Mangawhai, enabling the commencement/
completion of social and infrastructure projects. Step Up for organisations that may not have a charitable trust or legal entity, but require grant funding to enable the realisation of a beneficial community project. Youth Achievement in which applicants must be a recognised youth organisation active in Mangawhai, with the benefitting youths being residents of Mangawhai, enabling skill development or infrastructure support.
