p Weather conditions were ‘perfect’ at Kai Iwi Lakes for two Sport Northland triathlons held last Friday and Saturday according to organisers. Many top contenders from 2017 came back for the ASB Northland Secondary Schools Sports Association Triathlon on Friday, and the annual Avoca Kai Iwi Lakes Triathlon on Saturday offered many different options including: a kids tri, short course, long course, teams, kayak or swim options. At the end of the day every competitor got to take home a bag of kumara in true Kaipara fashion.

The district can look forward to more regional cooperation following the Northland Mayoral Forum, which kick-started the workload for new Kaipara mayor, Jason Smith, just hours after he was sworn into office last Friday.

“The forum was a welcoming environment, as I already knew my counterparts, and there was also an emphasis emerging of collaborative projects, such as shared services in things like information technology, or IT.” Mayor Smith said.

“There is also a shared view in transport and roading of getting to stand shoulder to shoulder in Northland, in dealing with central government on matters such as regional roading. “It was interesting for me to see from my involvement with the former
