“We are really starting to get the message out to the wider Kaipara community that this new facility for the district is becoming a reality,” said Maungaturoto Community Charitable Trust chair, Craig Fergus, after last Thursday’s event. The 14-bed dementia unit is to cost $3.6 million and $654,000, has so far been spent on planning, resource and building consents. The trust has a bank facility of $1.8 million leaving $900,000 to be found.” A fundraising committee has been charged with finding $500,000. “We have applications out for grants for the rest of the money,” said Mr Fergus. “After last Thursday’s breakfast morning, the total raised by Albie Paton and his committee has hit $270,000, and that’s a fantastic effort and a huge boost on the pathway to seeing the new dementia unit become a reality. “More importantly, the event has put our message out well and truly out there, with More FM broadcasting live to Northland. It was also made possible by Richard Wearmouth and his team with their Rapid Relief Trailer, a Brethren initiative aimed at helping feed emergency response teams in the event of civil emergencies.” Mr Paton said Richard Wearmouth and his team had cooked breakfasts underway for delivery to businesses and individuals by 6.30am, “and so it went on until the last orders were away by 10am. The total raised on the day was breakfast sales of $5,893 plus donations from the public of $10,100.” More FM with John Markby broadcast from 7am until after 9am. “To do things like this you need the whole district
