p Dargaville’s main street was filled with music, colour and Christmas cheer this past Saturday, as Santa Claus and all his friends turned out to celebrate the holiday season. A key player in the parade, which was attended by a sizeable crowd ahead of Silver Fern Farms’ Community Whanau Day at Selwyn Park, was a float commemorating a century since the flight of pioneer aviator Captain George Bolt. In 1919, George brought the nation’s first airmail to Dargaville, echoing the seasonal aerial delivery of presents by Santa’s sleigh each December 24. See more on page 12 and 13.
