p Dargaville’s annual Hot Rods and Harleys fun day was inundated by a torrential downpour of rain. However, this opening of the heavens did little to dampen the spirits of locals, who came out in large numbers to support the event. From 10am the big bikes and muscle cars came rolling into the yard of Greg Smith Engineering, where tents, awnings, sheds and workshops were repurposed for shelter and display. Dargaville locals, including whole families, showed up with umbrellas and raincoats to check out the vehicles on display, some completed just in time for Saturday’s big event. Attendees, who joked about the weather, enjoyed a sausage sizzle and remained on-site until 2pm when a convoy of cars twisted its way through Dargaville before going their separate ways. The coveted people’s choice award was won by Craig Rollands with his 41 Ford Pickup Phat41. Sponsors for this prize were Marcel Motors, Coresteel Buildings, Fenix Radiators and Greg Smith Engineering.
