TOWN OF BRECKENRIDGE We are guests in the Town, please treat everyone with respect and dignity. Breckenridge tends to be very laid-back regarding dress and familiarity. For this reason, you never know who you are speaking with.

You represent the National Repertory Orchestra during all aspects of your time in Breckenridge and while a member of the orchestra.

Altitude The Town is at 9600 feet Air is thinner meaning it will be harder to breathe, it will be harder to exert yourself, and you will be more susceptible to headaches and the effects of alcohol and caffeine. It is recommended you drink water throughout the day, every day. Because of the altitude the sun is far more intense. Normal outdoor activities can cause extreme sunburn. Please plan accordingly.

Details of the Town can be found at www.townofbreckenridge.com Outdoor activities Breckenridge is known for year-round outdoor activities. While we encourage all participants to take advantage of their time in the mountains, we also ask everyone to exercise caution when planning and attempting many of these activities. Weather, altitude, wildlife as well as physical conditioning MUST be taken into account.

Hiking ● Never hike alone; Always tell people when you are leaving for a hike, where you are going, and when you expect to get back ● Download the CoTrex app for information about all the Colorado trails available Weather The weather is extremely changeable in the mountains. Always be prepared for showers (which can easily turn to snow or hail), especially in the afternoon. Never assume to know the weather by looking outside. The weather is a big part of our Community Engagement events, so please come prepared if musicians are instructed to perform outside.

Wildlife No bear selfies…..

While in Breckenridge, you WILL encounter wildlife. Just because animals are in town, that does not make them tame. These animals are wild and will defend themselves if you engage them. Avoid wild animals. If you cannot, follow these steps: Bears - Identify yourself by speaking in a calm, appeasing tone. Back away slowly, preferably in the direction you came. Walk, don't run, and keep your eye on the bear so you can see how it will react.

Moose - Keep a safe distance and a watchful eye. If the moose becomes aggressive and charges, run ‌ Watching for warning signs is one of the best ways to avoid danger when encountering a moose. The hair on the back of the neck or above its hips may stand up, they may lay their ears back or smack their lips.

Fox/Coyote - If you encounter a fox or coyote that does not immediately run away, make some noise. Yell, clap your hands, wave your arms, stomp your feet — make your presence felt, but do not approach or chase the animal. You can also carry a whistle, or other noisemaker when walking in known coyote or fox areas.

RIVERWALK CENTER (RWC) We are guests of the RWC. The RWC is a shared facility between many organizations including the office for the NRO, BreckMusic, and the Breckenridge Creative Arts. ● ● ● ●

Office space may not be used for your personal belongings.

Do not leave anything behind after rehearsals or concerts in the Green Room Area as this is a shared space.

Keep valuables with you at all times. The NRO is not responsible for lost or stolen personal property.

Rehearsal schedules are tight, and the RWC is extremely busy during the season.

Please help accommodate this by limiting personal items in the backstage area.

Positive attitude We expect all staff and musicians to behave in a pleasant and cooperative manner. Any disrespect shown toward any other musician, employee, or guest of the NRO or other organization in the RWC may result in punitive action or dismissal.

Building Hours Musicians should access the RWC through the Adams Street door (south side) when possible.

The door will be unlocked one hour before rehearsals until half an hour after rehearsals.

Outside of these hours, musicians may enter through the RWC Ticket Office doors between Mon-Sat 12pm-5pm. On concert days the Ticket Office remains open through the first half hour of the concert. Musicians are not allowed in the building before 8am or after 10pm (excluding concerts).

The RWC is CLOSED on Sundays, except for designated keycard holders.

Practice Rooms The RWC has two practice rooms available backstage by signup only.

Musicians must sign up using the online reservation system or physical sign-up sheets as directed by Personnel. If the practice room signup time is after 5pm, you MUST pick up a keycard immediately after rehearsal from the Personnel office. If you do not pick up your keycard you will not be able to access the building during the practice slot. Keycards must be returned to the Personnel office before rehearsal the next morning.

Practice times are limited and are on a first come first served basis. Most musicians will have to practice in their housing. We suggest an open discussion with other roommates to work out “house rules.”

The fee for losing a keycard is $100.

Instruments Due to the altitude, your instruments are subject to dry air. Cracks and seams may appear. We recommend the use of dampits or other humidification for your instruments.

Parking Parking is available at the RWC during rehearsal and costs approximately $.50c per hour.

However, RWC parking is expected to be kept for patrons at concert time. If you must drive to concerts, park in the parking lot south of the RWC Center, F-Lot. In addition, there may be other uses of the parking lot for various events. Please adhere to any and all restrictions set forth by the Town of Breckenridge.

Gondola Lots North Gondola lot will be a pay lot (beginning June 14). The South lot will be closed for summer 2020. The hours for the North lot are set by the ski resort.

Free park ‘n ride is available all summer at the Ice Rink and Airport Road lots. The Ice Rink is serviced by the Gray route every twenty minutes from 6:24 a.m. to 11:24 p.m. and by the Main Street Trolley from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The Airport Road lot is serviced by the Gray route on Airport Road every twenty minutes from 6:29 a.m. to 11:29 p.m. Visit www.breckfreeride.com for complete schedules.

Locals’ Discount Save money on parking! The Town is offering an ongoing 10% parking discount to Locals. Use the Passport Parking app to fund a pre-paid wallet. Every time a user pre-funds the wallet with $30, the Town will add $3 of free parking. Attendance Attendance is mandatory at all services, rehearsals, and performances, unless the musician is not assigned to that performance or piece. Musicians are also expected to be present at all of their scheduled Community Engagement events and relevant master classes or coachings.

Musicians who fail to arrive on time or miss rehearsals, performances, and/or community engagement services will receive a verbal warning. Multiple absences or tardiness will be grounds for dismissal. Illnesses and injuries during the season should be reported to Personnel and will be handled on a case-by-case basis. If a musician’s instrument is broken, they must communicate that to Personnel and attend rehearsal with a score as a listening exercise unless otherwise directed. Soloists are typically not expected to play in the other pieces on the program that includes their solo piece.

Rehearsal Attendance Call time for rehearsals is 15 minutes prior to the published start time. Personnel will take attendance at the start of each piece. Musicians are expected to be ready at the times indicated in the Online Calendar and Weekly Schedule. If times for individual pieces are not specified, musicians should be present and ready to rehearse when called for. If a musician is not present and has not communicated with Personnel beforehand, they will receive a phone call and will be expected to arrive at rehearsal as soon as possible.

Performance Attendance Call time for concerts is 30 minutes before the published concert start time. Personnel does not take attendance before the concerts; instead a sign-in sheet will be posted on the Personnel Board, which musicians must initial to indicate their attendance. This sign-in sheet will be collected by Personnel 15 minutes prior to concert start time and will serve as the official record of attendance for the performance.

Rehearsal Breaks The break will last 15 minutes for 2.5 hour rehearsals and 10 minutes for 2 hour rehearsals.

Personnel will keep the clock for the break. The backstage lights will be quickly flicked off and on once when there are 5 minutes remaining and a second time when there are 2 minutes remaining. Musicians should be on stage and ready to tune one minute before the break ends.

Community Engagement Events Attendance Call time for CE concerts are 45 minutes before the published concert start time. Musicians are expected to meet the CE Manager and/or CE Fellow at the RWC and walk over to the venue together. It is imperative that you are not late as there are sound checks and set-ups that also take place. If a musician is not present and has not communicated with anyone from CE beforehand, they will receive a phone call and will be expected to arrive at the venue as soon as possible.

Outdoor Performance Most of the Community Engagement concerts and the NRO run-outs are outside. Weather is constantly changing in Breckenridge; and it will be up to the Community Engagement Manager to assess the conditions and circumstances of the weather at CE concerts. If the CE Manager makes the call to perform outside, you will be expected to perform. Please make sure you come prepared for outdoor performances. For more information about our outdoor weather guidelines, please contact the Community Engagement Manager.

Illness/injury All personnel issues (attendance, personal equipment issues, housing, illness, injury, etc.) should be brought to the attention of Personnel immediately. In case of severe illness, you must contact the Orchestra Manager personally. No other contact is acceptable. Information on how to contact the Orchestra Manager is above in Emergency Numbers. Email Email will be the primary method of communication for Personnel throughout the season. As changes to the daily schedule occur regularly and are distributed through email, it is imperative that you actively monitor the email address that Personnel has on file. Any disruptions in your

email service should be reported to Personnel immediately. In the event that an email requires a response the expectation is that the reply will occur within 24 hours of receiving the email unless a deadline is specified. All information communicated verbally in an announcement format or on a one-on-one basis will be sent via email as well for record-keeping purposes.

Announcements Announcements will occur in the two minutes before the rehearsal start right before tuning, usually before the biggest piece on the program (so that the maximum number of musicians will be present). All important announcements will be sent out in email form as well by Personnel.

Dress Code Musicians Male Standard Orchestra Concerts All white dinner jacket (shawl collar preferred, off white is unacceptable), black tux trousers (stripe down leg), white long-sleeve wing-tip collar shirt with narrow pleats, black bow tie, cummerbund, black socks, well-maintained black close-toed dress shoes. No vest.

July 4th Concerts Blue jeans (non-distressed denim) and a white collared shirt. Since one of these concerts will be outdoors you may wear a short-sleeve shirt. You may wear any color of sneakers/shoes.

Gala Concert Standard Orchestra Concert attire, as mentioned above.

Community Engagement Concerts Concert black (black trousers, black button down long-sleeve shirt, black shoes) Female Standard Orchestra Concerts All white colored button front blazer that hits at least 2 inches below the hip (Cannot expose midriff or back while in playing position, off white is unacceptable), long-sleeved or elbow length white collared dress blouse (no tank tops), ankle-length black skirt or flowy-type pants (no tightpants), black stockings or socks, well-maintained black close-toed dress shoes.

Gala Concert For our 60th anniversary Gala in 2020, women may wear a long formal gown. Otherwise, Standard Orchestra Concert attire applies, as mentioned above.

Community Engagement Concerts Concert black (black trousers, black blouse with elbow length or long-sleeves, black shoes) Summer Staff and Ops/Admin Fellows *Staff should wear nametags at all NRO services.

Standard Orchestra Concerts Staff who appear on stage or in the front of house booth must wear “concert black”. Concert black is defined as long black trousers, black top with long sleeves (elbow length permissible for women), and black closed-toe shoes. The Photography Fellow must wear concert black and shoes with a quiet sole. All other staff may wear business attire.

July 4th Concerts A.M. concert: Non-distressed jeans and a black shirt P.M. concert: Concert black Gala Concert Male: Suit and tie Female: Long formal gown or other formal attire Community Engagement Concerts Staff with stage duties or who are running audio should wear concert black. All other staff members should wear business attire.

Appropriate Business Attire: includes slacks or khakis, dress shirt or blouse, open-collar or polo shirt, optional tie or seasonal sport coat, a dress or skirt at knee-length or below, a tailored blazer, knit shirt or sweater, and loafers or dress shoes that cover all or most of the foot.

Orchestra Library – FAQs What is the function of the NRO Library?

The NRO Library provides all of the orchestra performance material for the current NRO season. The Librarians manage, catalog, inventory, and repair NRO Library holdings. The Library staff will be available via email after 20 May. What are your open hours?

The Library, located on the upper level of the RWC Center (“RWC”), is open during full orchestra rehearsals and concerts, and at the beginning of sectionals/master classes. The

Library is typically closed during seminars, chamber music rehearsals/concerts, and outreach services. Open hours are posted weekly on the Library door.

When can I obtain my orchestra music?

Music is available in the Library several days prior to a concert. Notices for what is currently available are posted on the Library Board backstage by the RWC practice rooms. String players share a folder by stand; the onstage music is checked out to the first person on the stand requesting it (including principal stands). Practice parts can be made available to any String player by request.

At check-in, each musician will receive an individual folder with parts for the first concert. Wind, Brass, and Percussion players will receive original parts; String players will receive practice parts. For later concerts, please pick up music in the Library.

Can I pick up my music before the date it is posted as ready?

String players may request practice parts by submitting a PINK practice part request form; photocopies of the music will be placed in the requesting musician’s mailbox. Wind and Percussion players may request music early by submitting a GREEN early music request form.

Requested parts or practice copies will be placed in the musician’s mailbox when the parts are ready.

Can I take my music after rehearsal to practice?

Musicians are always encouraged to take music home to practice. You will receive your own folder when you arrive; please use it whenever you remove music from the RWC Center. If you want to leave the music after rehearsal, kindly place it in the black stage folder, and leave it closed on the music stand. Librarians do not pick up music that is left somewhere else (i.e. floor, chair, green room). If we do not see it onstage, we will assume you are taking it home.

Leave nothing on stage except the black stage folder. Please also be responsible for any chamber music you are using, and keep it with you.

Does the Library have extra music if I forget to bring mine to rehearsal?

The Library does not have extra copies of the music. Because rehearsal schedules may change without notice, musicians should bring ALL orchestral music that they have in their possession to every orchestra rehearsal, sectional, and master class.

What happens if I lose my folder and/or music?

Once a musician signs out a folder and/or music, s/he is fully responsible for that music, and the musician will be assessed full replacement cost for any folder and/or music that is lost or damaged beyond repair. Replacement costs are $10-$100 per item.

How do I return music after a concert?

Immediately after the concert, place your music into the black folder pocket and leave the closed folder on your stand for collection.

Can I take my music to the run-out?

No, we will take the orchestra music to the run-out for you. Because the Librarians must account for each piece of music before the buses leave for the run-out, please leave music in the folder pocket and place the closed folder on your music stand at the rehearsal prior to the run-out. We check for all music and promptly phone any musician whose music is not present.

No exceptions.

Does the NRO library own recordings, solo or chamber music?

While the NRO Library owns no recordings or solo music, a small collection of recordings is available at the Summit Public Library. The NRO Library has a small chamber music collection, mainly designed for outreach services. This material is handled by the Community Engagement team rather than the Library.

Production Policies Please help us to maintain our positive relationships with the Town of Breckenridge by adhering to all policies. ● No food or drink on stage (water in a clear bottle with a lid is allowed) ● ROCKSTOPS ARE MANDATORY FOR BASSISTS, CELLISTS AND CONTRA BASSOON. ● You are responsible for your own special seating needs due to frequent seating rotations. ○ Chair dimensions: Seat- 15”x15”, Height- 17” ○ NO STACKING CHAIRS (this results in damages to the equipment) ● Special requests must be submitted at least five days in advance and will be treated on a case-by-case basis. ● Stage lighting – stage lights are ONLY utilized for full orchestral rehearsals. ● Percussion and piano rooms – last person practicing must make sure it is locked. ● Piano and harp room reserved for piano and harp players only. ● No jumping off the front of the stage – take stairs on either side. Stairs will not be on the front of the stage during performances. Any entrances into the hall MUST be around the building. Absolutely NO JUMPING off the stage during or after shows, it gives an unprofessional appearance and encourages audience members to gain access to the stage, risking safety of both persons and equipment. ● Do not move or touch audio and lighting consoles. ● Maintain the security of hall/backstage, NO PROPPING OPEN OF ANY DOORS. ● Production crew is responsible for all instrument rentals, piano tunings, and logistics.

Housing ● NO GUESTS are allowed in your housing without express permission of your roommates. No guests are allowed to stay over night for any reason. ● SMOKING There is no smoking of any kind allowed in any housing unit. ● PETS are not allowed in housing at any time – there are no exceptions.

NO LONG DISTANCE CALLS can be made from your condo or house. Each unit may have a phone for local calls, and calling cards must be used for long distance calls. Any extra phone charges will be your responsibility.

BE RESPECTFUL of your roommates at all times.

BE COURTEOUS to your neighbors. Remember that these are not college dormitories and that NRO musicians are not the only guests. You are ambassadors for the NRO when you come in contact with seasonal guests and property management staff.

Multiple noise complaints will result in a deduction or loss of your deposit and you may be asked to leave the festival.

KEYS to your housing unit will be issued to you upon arrival. The fee to replace lost keys is up to $50. You are expected to report a lost key for security reasons and return a key at the end of the season.

YOU ARE ULTIMATELY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO THE UNIT. Any damage fees will be divided equally between all individuals in the unit. Each unit is under different management. If a physical housing problem does arise, please contact a property manager of your building, or the private owner of your unit and notify the NRO personnel staff.

Each unit is equipped with a kitchen. It is fine to entertain occasionally IF you have cleared the schedule with your roommates and neighbors. Please do not take dishes, silverware, or furniture from one unit to another, or outside.

Most complexes have coin operated washers and dryers if the unit does not have a washer and dryer. There is also a laundromat in town, Breckenridge Laundry (105 S French Street) that accepts payment by credit or debit card, and they are open 24/7.

Internet Most condos have internet access, but it may be limited. The town of Breckenridge does provide free Wi-Fi at the following Town owned locations: the Breckenridge Golf Course/Gold Run Nordic Center clubhouse, the Breckenridge Recreation Center, Breckenridge Station transit center (next to the BreckConnect Gondola), Breckenridge Town Hall, the Breckenridge Welcome Center, the Riverwalk Center, Carter Park Pavilion, the Stephen C. West Ice Arena, and in the Arts District at the Robert Whyte House and the Tin Shop. In addition, several coffee shops offer free Wi-Fi and there are several internet cafes in Breckenridge.

Being an Ambassador Throughout the summer, each musician will have a number of opportunities to interact with the residents and visitors to Breckenridge and Summit County. “You never know who you are speaking with.” Please keep this in mind and use each encounter as an opportunity to positively inform people about the National Repertory Orchestra. There are opportunities to invite people to concerts and speak with them about yourselves and the NRO. Remember, you are here for a summer, but this is the NRO’s home. Musicians will return next year. How you act is reflected on the NRO and all future musicians.

Concert Etiquette When you are an audience member at any concert you are expected to set an example for concert patrons. Please be respectful of those around you.

Food Stipend Musicians Each NRO musician will be provided with $50 a week in City Market gift cards, not to exceed a total of $400. Certificates will be distributed in two rounds. One $200 food certificate upon arrival and another $200 food certificate halfway through the festival.

Summer Staff and Ops/Admin Fellows Each NRO summer staff and admin fellow will be provided with $50 a week in City Market gift cards, not to exceed a total of $500. Certificates will be distributed in two rounds. One $250 food certificate upon arrival and another $250 food certificate halfway through the festival.

These certificates are redeemable at City Market, the supermarket located on North Park Avenue. The bus stops directly in front of the store and travels throughout town. These certificates are not redeemable for alcohol or tobacco products. Certificates will not be given to a roommate or friend for you – you must pick them up personally.

Community Link The Community Link program links NRO musicians and summer staff members with local individuals, couples, or families. It allows you to feel at home and to become a part of the wonderful community of Summit County. It allows local NRO supporters a chance to get to know you, while filling a unique and vital volunteer role. They may cook you a home-cooked meal or take you out to dinner every week. They may provide a quiet place to practice if you need it. They may provide you with a place to do your laundry should one be unavailable to you. They may also act as your personal connection to Summit County: showing you the best hiking and biking trails, lending you a tennis racket, giving you the name of the best doctor in town, showing you the best store to buy souvenirs, and offering you social opportunities like BBQ’s with other host families.

Recreation Center The Breckenridge Recreation Center is located on town bus route at 880 Airport Road, just north of the City Market grocery store and the Justice Center. Their telephone number is 970453-1734. Please abide by all rules and regulations set forth by the Breckenridge Recreation Center.

Office Hours The RWC office hours will be posted, including the Box Office. The main entrance to the RWC and the Box Office area must be kept clear at all times. Please use the window and identify yourself as a musician if you need to speak with someone in the Box Office.

Concert Tickets TBC Mail All mail will be sent directly to the Breckenridge Post Office via general delivery. Mail will be collected on a daily basis and distributed. Only nominated staff can collect the mail, do not attempt to collect in person if you are not a nominated staff member.

This will be updated prior to arrival in Breckenridge.

SAFETY Emergencies and Wildfires Bad days happen, even here. Be prepared by subscribing to Summit County Alert for emergency information about wildfires, floods, evacuations, road closures, and more. The Summit County Office of Emergency Management uses SC Alert to send emergency notifications by phone, email and text. We encourage all Summit County residents and property owners to sign up and create a managed account with customized notification settings. If you already have an account, we recommend logging in to verify that your contact info is up to date.

Download SC Alert App. @ http://www.co.summit.co.us/1149/Summit-County-Alert Active Shooter Information Breckenridge Police have performed active shooter rehearsals at the RWC. They recommend the following: First, practice Run-Hide-Fight Run: Experts prefer that people try to get away from the shooter. That means run, but also be vigilant and aware of the surroundings. A person should know where the exits are. If a particular exit is backed up, they should seek alternatives. They should also be able to visualize how they would get out of a location before a potentially disastrous situation unfolds.

Hide: If it's not possible to get away from a shooter safely, the next best option is to find cover, experts say. That means hiding, preferably behind something that could stop a bullet. It also

means taking other precautions such as locking or barricading doors, turning off lights, and silencing phones.

Fight: If someone ends up being close to the shooter and is unable to run or hide, authorities advise that the person should be prepared to take defensive measures. What that essentially means is fight -- and not fairly. Experts say people should be aggressive and use whatever objects are available to fend off the attacker. If they attempt to strike the shooter, they should go for weak points like the eyes, throat, and groin.

In the event of an active shooter during a rehearsal or concert we will have two meeting spots, Main Street Mall, 311 S Main St, Breckenridge, CO 80424 and the parking lot at Breckenridge Town Hall, 150 Ski Hill Rd, Breckenridge, CO 80424. In preparation, make sure you are aware of all possible exits in the hall.

Jana Edwards, MSW, LCSW, BCD is offering to any NRO musician a complimentary one-hour session to talk through feelings/concerns/struggles you may be having about your career. Jana has had a private practice as a psychotherapist in the Denver area for 40 years. This service should not be considered psychotherapy nor a substitute for any type of mental health treatment you may already be receiving. It is focused on your professional journey.

Jana may be reached by text at 303-916-6564. Once a request is sent, she will respond with possible times for an appointment. The session will take place in the NRO office in a confidential setting. No one within the NRO staff will be notified that you have reached out for this service, and the only record that will be kept is a total number of people who have used the service.

This is an opportunity for a private conversation with a trained mental health professional.

Appropriate referrals will be made available if a mental health crisis is identified.

STATEMENT OF POLICIES AND PROCEDURES STATEMENT OF RULES AND REGULATIONS Statement of Alcohol and Drug Policy It is the policy of the NRO to prohibit the use or possession anywhere at any time of controlled substances or of prescription drugs for which the Musician does not have a current, valid prescription. Violation of this policy will result in termination. As a recipient of state and federal grants, the NRO is bound to uphold rules and regulations in accordance with that funding. Any use or possession of controlled substances could result in loss of funding; therefore, use or possession of controlled substances will not be tolerated. Any evidence of such use or possession will result in immediate dismissal from the orchestra, with no chance of appeal.

Bringing alcohol and/or marijuana into the RWC Center or any other venue where Musician is participating in a rehearsal or performance is strictly prohibited. Colorado State Law prohibits consumption of any alcoholic beverage or marijuana by anyone under 21 years of age.

Consumption or possession of alcohol or marijuana by under-aged Musicians is strictly prohibited anywhere at any time. Inappropriate behavior anywhere at any time relating in any way to the consumption of alcohol or marijuana may subject the Musician to disciplinary action, including the possibility of being sent home. It is the Musician’s responsibility to be aware that high altitude can magnify the effects of alcohol and/or marijuana and should act appropriately. It should be noted that the legalization of marijuana is limited to Colorado State laws and restrictions.

A majority of the Summit County and Breckenridge Proper Town Limits include federal land in which the use of marijuana is considered to be a federal offense and will be punished severely by legal authorities.

Should the violation of any of the above result in the termination of Musician from the NRO, the Musician will be required to vacate the residential premises provided immediately, be barred from attending any performance or other NRO activity, and reimburse the NRO for the balance of his/her housing expenses.

Please be aware of the effects of edibles. Because of the way edibles are metabolized, it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to take effect, and the effects can last several hours.

Overdose symptoms from eating marijuana are often more severe than symptoms of an overdose from smoking marijuana.

To reiterate, it is prohibited to come to any NRO event under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

Statement of Sexual Harassment Policy â—? Sexual harassment is defined as unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal, visual or physical conduct of a sexual nature. Examples of sexual harassment include:

Unwelcome or unsolicited sexual advances; Displaying sexually suggestive material or making suggestive sexual comments; Unwelcome sexual flirtations, advances or propositions; Verbal abuse of a sexual nature; Sexually oriented jokes; Crude or vulgar language or gestures; Graphic or verbal commentaries about an individual’s body; Displaying or distributing obscene material; Suggestive physical contact, such as patting, pinching, or brushing against someone’s body; or Assault of a physical nature.

Statement of Sexual Contact Policy Sexual contact is generally defined as intentional touching, either directly or through the clothing, of the genitalia, anus, groin, breast, inner thigh, or buttocks of any person. Definitions are primarily governed by state criminal laws, which vary by state.

Should any person believe he or she has been the victim of unlawful sexual harassment or sexual contact by any NRO officer, director, musician, employee, or independent contractor, he or she should report such conduct immediately to the CEO or Personnel Manager, or if either is the subject of the complaint, to any Board member. The CEO and/or the Board shall investigate such a report as expeditiously as possible.

Non-consensual sexual contact will not only lead to dismissal but will also be brought to the attention of local law enforcement.

Statement of Anti-discrimination Policy NRO does not discriminate in its employment practices on the basis of race, color, sex or sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, marital status, military status or any other status or condition protected by law. NRO does not tolerate verbal or non-verbal conduct by any NRO officer, director, or employee, or by any NRO independent contractor, that denigrates or shows hostility toward another person based on that person’s race, color, sex or sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, marital status, military status, or any other status or condition protected by law.

Statement of Copyrights Policy The NRO as an arts organization per se, and by virtue of its professional affiliations, affirms the necessity to hold copyright inviolate in all aspects of its activities. The intentional, unauthorized

use of any form of intellectual property is thus strictly prohibited. This prohibition includes, but is not limited to: musical compositions, arrangements, recordings, publications, computer software, photography, illustrations, and written work product.

Statement of Instrument Maintenance Policy Musicians will have with him/her a good suitable instrument, and will maintain it constantly in the best condition at his/her own expense, and will always furnish and use such instrument to perform upon and will perform to the best of his/her ability. The NRO will not be responsible for the Musician's instrument, on or off any performance or rehearsal premises used by the NRO. Statement of Artistic Policy The Conductor will have the full power to regulate the pitch of the orchestra, and the Musician agrees that he or she will accept the wishes of the Conductor at all times concerning his/her services, including orchestral assignment.

Statement of General Liability and Instrument Insurance.

The NRO carries general liability and Worker's Compensation insurance. The NRO does not carry insurance for personal property. You are strongly advised to carry property insurance for your instruments and other valuables.

Statement of Assignment Policy Musician will accept assignments from Music Director, Guest Conductor and/or Assistant Conductor, CEO, Artistic & Operations Director, Office Administration, Personnel, Library, and Production Staff.

Statement of Termination Procedures Policy The following reasons, while not fully inclusive, are examples of sufficient cause for immediate termination: ● Discourteous behavior, arguing, insulting or other disrespectful actions to Conductor, Administrative Staff, Production Staff, Guest Artists, Patrons, Musicians, Fellows or Staff members. ● Insubordination or progressive disciplinary problem. ● Intoxication on the job. ● Theft or tolerating theft. ● Dishonest or fraudulent use of identification pass. ● Careless or unsafe work; substandard performance or unsatisfactory work. ● Illegal substance use/possession or possession of weapons. ● Willful failure to meet job requirements. ● Unexcused absence. ● Frequent tardiness. ● Destruction of any portion of the performance facility, rehearsal facilities or orchestra property. ● Fighting.
