Kosta Boda Collection
The ambition of Kosta Boda Collection is to capture the spirit of the times in the form of commercial lifestyle products. The range consists of well-designed and functional interior items. Complementary materials can be used, but always with the glass in focus. We find inspiration in the collective history of the glassworks and designers like Signe Persson-Melin and Erik Höglund, complemented by present-day influences. The collections encompass fashion, music and art, and aim to beautify and enhance modern everyday life – whether it concerns diningtable accessories, interior design or celebration.

The Brick series reflects the distinct features of brick, yet with the transparency of glass. The Brick votive from Kosta Boda has a square shape inspired by something exquisitely simple: a brick. Ulrica Hydman-Vallien Caramba
The inspiration for this Kosta Boda series from 1986 stems from a trip to Mexico. “¡Ay, caramba!” is a bold statement that indicates admiration, surprise or anger. It’s a word associated with strong emotions, a strength reflected in Ulrika Hydman Vallien’s hand-painted black details in the mouth-blown glass.

Erik Höglund
Fars Glas – Swedish for father’s glass – is today something of a cult classic. Small wonder, as its designer Erik Höglund is considered one of the industry greats of the last century. Starting his professional career at Boda glassworks in the early fifties, he was a key figure in ushering in a new era and form in Swedish design. Apart from Höglund’s expertise in glass, he was also active as a painter, sculptor, and graphic artist.
Fars Glas is a mouth-blown wine glass with simplistic lines and a markedly robust shape, and a cherished item in Kosta Boda’s product archive. At long last, it’s once again available for all in an exclusive collaboration with Hem.

Kappa
Mimmi Blomqvist
Kappa is a series of vases in different sizes and executions by Mimmi Blomqvist for Kosta Boda. The series is mouth-blown into shape and is named after the bubble, or cap, that rises over the edge of the mold during manufacture. It is also this cap that has inspired the beautiful, billowing shape of the vases. The collection includes multiple styles, sizes and colors including a selection offered in circular glass produced from waste glass at Kosta Glassworks resulting in a unique coloration – shades from blue to green – for each object.
Kappa was launched in 2021 and is both a tribute to the artisanal history of glass and designed for a sustainable future.

Lab by Kosta Boda is a new collaboration with brothers and fellow designers Matti and Simon Klenell. It’s a series of vases at the intersection of function and decoration, inspired by the aesthetics and archetypes of traditional laboratory glass.
The contemporary series takes the rigid form and impeccable function of these scientific accessories, then adds colors and patterns to create an equally bold and unexpected expression.
Lab consists of four objects, crafted and mouth-blown in Kosta and available in a range of colors.

Who says we need such a sharp division between celebration and everyday life? This series is born from the idea that every new day is worth celebrating. Line is mouth-blown at Kosta Glassworks and radiates the same elegance today as when the collection first saw the light of day in 1982. Then and now, the final touch – the iconic, spun glass thread that gave the series its name – is applied by hand, in proud Swedish craft tradition.

A wild, blossoming field. That’s both the inspiration for and expression of Meadow, a series of vases that look just as good on their own as holding a sheaf of roses. Or tulips, a mixed bouquet, a solitary flower, a well-chosen twig.
Meadow is made using a glass-crushing technique where the vases are rolled in colored, crushed glass while they are still red-hot. The shards blend into and become part of the glass itself, and no two vases are alike. The organic pattern combined with the straight lines creates a playful whole that highlights the craftsmanship, while the shape of the vase highlights the floral splendor it embraces.

Åsa Jungnelius Moss
The lines are familiar, but together they form something unique - Moss. The soft paradox can be said to describe both the expression and the manufacturing process itself. The series is created from reused old molds from Kosta glassworks, which were carved out by hand to produce new shapes and create an undulating, irregular glass surface that is liquid, frozen and organic at the same time.
The product series contains a votive, vase, bowl, drinkingglasses and a carafe. All products are mouth-blown produced in Kosta and are available in circular and clear glass.

When Picnic was launched in 1967, the underlying idea was to challenge the bourgeoisie’s fixation on excessively large stemware sets. Why have so many pieces, when you can drink straight from the bottle or from simple glasses? Thus a classic was born, with a timeless, mouth-blown simplicity and splendor that works just as well today.
Stout but hollow stems allow the glasses to be filled right down to the base, accentuating the drink’s color in a decorative way. Another lovely detail is the playful dynamic between glassware and carafe.

This timeless series consists of a number of glass sculptures reminiscent of rippling water frozen in time. Each sculpture also doubles as a votive, where the clear glass refracts and diffuses the light to set the mood.

Sunflower by Göran Wärff – is another Kosta Boda brand icon brought back to life! In an effort to make past masterpieces available to new audiences, Kosta Boda is excited to reissue select products from its comprehensive archive. Sunflower, a classic series of votives first introduced in 1974, bears all the hallmarks of Wärff’s artistry and Kosta Boda’s design DNA.
Natural light as well as organic shapes as they appear in nature were two major sources of inspiration for Göran Wärff (1933–2022), and both come to the fore in Sunflower. Here is an opportunity for a new generation of Kosta Boda consumers to find this epic design outside of a vintage design store.
The reissued series includes votives in three different heights, one edition in clear glass and one in circular glass. The latter uses repurposed waste glass from the hot shop in Kosta. This waste glass is upcycled and re-used in circular production of new items providing each product with a unique color tone and look. Sunflower is made in a two-step cast production technique relying on gravity, skill and experience to combine flower and stem.

Azur is a collection of cast and cut objects – like moments frozen in time. A staircase, a moon, a person. Space has always been a natural workplace for Bertil Vallien: the tiny human and the great, big world continuously sparking our curiosity. The collection, which is part of the Kosta Boda Artist Collection, first launched in 2018. The 2024 series is in petroleum blue – a color that Bertil used for several unique works that he created for his 60-year anniversary in 2023.

Bertil Vallien
Bertil Vallien created his first Brain in 1999, but the idea had been with him for more than a decade before that. He wanted to capture a sleeping yet living soul – the human being in the mysterious borderland between dream and wakefulness. His inspiration partly came from the story of “The Sleeper of Oknö,” Karolina Olsson, who, according to legend, slept for 32 years and suddenly awoke one April day in 1908.
In 2023, as Bertil celebrated 60 years as an artist at Kosta Boda, he created a new series of Brains — a gift to those of us who have followed his journey through the decades, never ceasing to cherish his unique gift for reinventing the art of glass.

Open minds trophy Friends
Everything can be painted on! That was Ulrica’s strong conviction from the beginning. Plates, glasses, jarseverything is worth a picture. Anyone who has had the privilege of visiting her home in Bromsastugan in Åfors knows that there is not a gadget that Ulrica has not painted.
This year’s trophies look at us with a typical Ulrica face. The colors don’t hide, they take tone. The glass is watching us! Sassy and feminine and confident. As if it was made up with lipstick and eyeliner. Just like Ulrica herself, who never looked away.
To also end up in the spotlight in the beloved television series Friends in the 1990s (they used the trophies as flower vases, among other things) does not make the story any worse. She had the habit inside. In the 1980s, her Caramba became a popular glass through the legendary Jacob Dahlin, who every night ended his show by toasting her cup!
Is there a Swedish home without Ulrica items? For Ulrica, it was important to spread her products around the world. When, in the early 1970s, she switched to working with the glass mass, she succeeded in reaching that goal with flying colors. Glass became a way for her to keep in touch with the rest of us on a daily basis.
In Ulrica’s generous world, no distinction was made between nice and ugly. Art or utility? These trophies are beautiful to look at, but also lovely to (carefully!) toast with.

Golden Angel was made with inspiration from Kjell Engman’s bathing ladies, which have the same full-bodied shape and are modeled after gospel singers he saw performing while traveling in the US. Golden Angel watches over the ladies as they take a dip in the morning darkness – a lovely, thoughtful gift and a wish for happiness. This item from Kosta Boda Artist Collection is pressed in a mold at Kosta Glassworks. The sandblasted wings are cut on, and the body, which is hand-painted in real 24 karat gold, stands on a glass foot casted in a mold.

’My goal has been to simply make a figurine. I’ve always been interested in small sculptures, ones that anyone can buy, mainly in the world of ceramics. We had them at home when I was growing up and I got lost in them. I have a collection myself now, which I have used as a motif in my paintings. I think it can be seen as an androgynous figure, in a meditative state of mind - a sculptural expression that I find interesting. The name evokes antiquity, which I like, but it’s actually the name the model I sculpted after.’

Åsa Jungnelius Mother of Pearl
Åsa Jungnelius’ Mother of Pearl sculpture has become a classic and is presented in various contexts and scales in her work. Now the Venus shell is available as a smaller object in the Kosta Boda Artist Collection. “This small sculpture is uniquely shaped in hot glass at the hot shop,” says Åsa Jungnelius. “The shell is also about the power of empty space. I love the actual pearl surrounded by the Venus shell – the very essence of glass as a material. The optical effect causes you to see the world upside down, providing access to a fresh perspective.” Mother of Pearl is cast in a graphite mold, in which the color is poured into the scoop. The pattern is created individually by the mold. The crystal-clear pearl is hand-sculpted and the pieces are joined with heat in the hot shop. “This work is also about my deep love of glass, craftsmanship, glass blowing, history, tradition and the glassworks,” says Åsa Jungnelius.

A solid cast cubic-shaped house that has become an established miniature universe in Bertil Vallien’s workshop. This collection is typical of the artist in many ways, notably representing his sense of space. These works of glass seem haunted by a floating sphere, a head – or simply by emptiness. In Bertil’s many years of exploring the inherent magic of glass, he always wants us to discover its natural form. So, here again, the focus is all on the glass itself. It is beautiful, playful, verging on the impossible!

PET from Kosta Boda Artist Collection was Ulrica’s spontaneous response after Björn Kjelltoft painted her pattern on PET bottles and paper plates for an exhibition at the University of Arts, Crafts & Design (Konstfack). Ulrica took back control of her designs and used them to adorn a limited edition of PET bottles made of glass. The objects, which is marked with Ulrica Hydman Vallien’s seal, is mouth-blown in a mold at Kosta Glassworks, and then hand-painted, which gives each PET a unique expression.

Åsa Jungnelius Snippan
Åsa Jungnelius’ modern classic, Snippan, is now being presented in a smaller design that can also be used as a bowl. Since it was first created in 2003, Snippan has become a contemporary feminist symbol that has recurred in different forms and formats in Jungnelius’ art, for example, in countless table settings – a work that Jungnelius describes as a social act. The sculpture is included in Nationalmuseum’s collection as the “mothership” of the work Your hair is so pretty! – a sealed blown-glass object that challenges concepts such as gender, power, space and identity. In 2004, Snippan helped to establish a new word, which was included two years later in the Swedish Academy Dictionary. “I’m so glad that Snippan is now available in a smaller, more accessible design for interiors – it is a sculpture, but it is also a bowl, a carrier,” says Åsa Jungnelius. Snippan is cast in a graphite mold at the hot shop in Kosta and painted with liquid platinum.
