NPower is a national nonprofit that offers an alternative fast-track to tech careers for military veterans, military spouses and young adults from underserved communities in New York, Texas, California, Maryland, New Jersey, Missouri, and Michigan. Our six-month program fuels a diverse pipeline of digital professionals hired into entry-level and mid-level jobs by Fortune 500 companies throughout the U.S.

The most important thing I got from NPower was professional development. Some colleges have resources to help you build a resume and do interview prep, but people don't always take advantage of everything beneficial to them. Having PD incorporated in the class exposed me to things I never thought of as important and made me realize I have more skills to add to my resume than thought.

My inspiration for getting into IT was computer networks. I'm going to attempt to get into the NPower Cloud Computing program and when I finish my Computer Science & Mathematics degree, I'll be in a favorable position to start my career. The Kahoots and other games were great because my competitiveness with other knowledgeable students pushed me to want to win. Those breaks were a great way to break the monotony of books, slides, & notecards. I didn't expect to like my classmates so much. In college, we usually just talk to the two or three people you sit next to all year. But breaking into groups for the small projects I got comfortable talking to anyone.

Prior Npower, I was working part time, building marketable skills (soldering, programming, and woodworking), but I lacked focus and an end goal. I had skills in IT, but I didn’t know where to begin or how to market myself. I was recommended NPower from my brother, Kenneth. I signed up not knowing much about the program.

I've learned about OS administration, network infrastructure, data transfer protocols, and security methods such as cryptography or security keys. I enjoyed the balanced of lectures and Coursera work. Learning from two sources helps to fill in the gaps in knowledge. One of my biggest challenges was articulating what I've learned. I overcame it by typing as much information about a subject as possible and researching when needed. After NPower, I'll be building towards the CompTIA Security+, CCNA, and IPC-610 soldering certificate.

I was currently enrolled at Webster University while majoring in Computer Science. I was looking around for internships that I could do over the fall semester, and I found Npower through LinkedIn. Npower interested me because I wanted to learn more about the field I was studying as well as open my horizon to see if information technology interested me. I had the opportunity to learn more about how hardware worked through studying the A+ 1001 because my major focuses more on the software side. I enjoyed the topics that were discussed and the labs because it got me more invested in virtualization. Juggling school and Npower at the same time was challenging especially during big tests. Gaining experience and knowledge helped push me to continue the program. I would like to start gaining more hands-on experience because I want to take the concepts that I learned and apply them. I would look forward to looking for employment in my field.

Before NPower I decided to try to pursue a career in IT and was teaching myself to code. was so excited when I found the NPower training program!

Through NPower I have had the ability to grow my technical knowledge at a rate I would have not imagined before. They really do give you all the tools and support you could ask for. I went from not knowing how the internet worked to knowing basic computer and network architecture. Having little experience with IT I dealt with a lot of self-doubt, but the teachers and other students have been incredibly supportive.

After NPower I plan on pursuing further certifications through their Cyber Security program. I am excited to get my foot in the door through an entry-level job and work my way up. One day I hope the work that I do will be focused on cyber security or cloud computing.

I graduated from Maryville University with a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity, magna cum laude. My friend Travis from the previous cohort recommended it to me as a great way to network and obtain my tech certifications. I've learned a lot about hardware, troubleshooting, and networking. Juggling all the assignments and certifications took a lot of scheduling and hard work, but my classmates and instructors helped me stick with the program. I'd like to continue to move forward in my tech career and eventually enter the cybersecurity field, obtaining the relevant certifications for that as well.

I would like to give a special thank you to: Ms. Courtney, Ms. Shay, & Mr. Kazimi: My instructors for tech fundamentals and professional development. They were all spectacular people who made learning the material fun and engaging.

An alumni and fellow friend reached out to me once he finished the program and recommend, I enroll for the fall semester. being hesitant at first, I was dismissive, but he kept pitching the idea to me so eventually I caved in and before I knew it, was well on my way into the program. after giving it, some thought and reflection I've always had a passion for technology and with free education how could I pass it up.

My experience here at Npower was captivating, I've learned so much about so many different fields of work. learning a new skill everyday was a challenge but it can be done. I completely learned how to set up firewalls and printers almost in the same week. the variety of lessons and opportunities here are truly amazing and though the workload is heavy it’s worth it. some challenges I personally faced were self-led study and keeping up with the assignments but luckily the instructors were always friendly and willing to help.

Prior Npower, I did a year at ISU studying Psychology because I wanted to be a marriage counselor. I was recently working a minimum wage job trying to prepare for becoming a firsttime mom. I had no interest in technology at all. When I was put on maternity leave, I decided a minimum wage job would not be able to support my family, so I went on a job search and ran across NPower. I had no idea I would be taking a course and getting certifications, but I am grateful for this opportunity. My experience with NPower is definitely one to remember. Some challenges had while in the program were juggling being a full-time mom, working a part time job, all while trying to turn in all my assignments on time and keep myself current on my work. I can say my classmates are the reason I kept going. I enjoyed all the conversations we had and the sense of humor everyone has.

Before NPower, I was employed at my local Save a Lot working everyday constantly. looking for something to do with my life after dropping out of college twice already. was open for something new, anything new in my educational journey.

After experiencing college for a short amount of time, knew it was not for me, I wanted to look into something different, something new. and that's when my aunt's childhood friend told her about the NPower program. she eventually told me. and I knew that was the something I needed in my life.

My experience in NPower was like no other. when I first started, I was super shy and unsure whether if I should stay. but I did, and I became so close and comfortable all my classmates, I really enjoyed the togetherness my classmates have, we really had each other’s back when one of us were in a rough spot! The work can get overwhelming but taking a break can really help you gather your thoughts and get the work done!

Before coming to NPower, I pursued a career in welding technology, not knowing if that was the career path I wanted to pursue. After graduating Highschool and receiving my certification in welding I started my path and eventually found a job as a travel chamber installer for a company. While I was traveling one day my friend told me he was going through an IT course with NPower and it was great.

NPower has been amazing to me! I knew very little before coming to NPower, and there were ups and downs with my training. The first few weeks I just wasn't sure I was cut out for IT. Instead, I kept pushing myself, and although there is much more to learn, I have so much more experience. All the staff members ensured I stayed on track and absorbed as much knowledge as possible. Towards the last couple of weeks there was a lot of pressure to attain certifications but looking back the only path now is forward.

Before Npower, I was a mechanic for 4 years. I went to school for automotive. My stepdad told me about NPower he heard about it on the radio, and I was looking for a career change and always had an interest in technology. At Npower, I learned lots of new skills both technical and soft skills. I became fascinated with computer hardware and learned to be more social. Challenges I faced was not giving up I went through some personal issues and was overloaded. But I made some good friends along the way and i knew it would be worth it to keep going. I'm very thankful for everyone. My desires after NPower are to have a successful career in the hardware side of IT and buy a house in a few years!

I would Like to Shout out Coach Rob for always being there for me he was always there to talk and give me advice. I would Like to also shout out all my fellow Trainees Congrats You guys made it and I'm thankful for all of you and your Friendship. Last but not least I'd like to Thank my teachers Ms. Shay, Ms. Walker, and Mr. Kazimi Thank you for bestowing your knowledge on me and making me a better person.

Before NPower, I had just gotten out of college and was at a loss on how to step into the IT world without any experience. I felt like even taking those college classes I was still not prepared for the real-life tasks of IT. I already knew what I wanted to become but getting there was the problem. I wanted to get into cybersecurity and become an ethical hacker. I started studying for the CompTIA A+ on my own so that employers would find me more desirable.

One day I was scrolling through Indeed to find some entry level IT positions when I came across NPower. Going on their website I saw how many certificates they provided and that for free!

I applied immediately afterwards. Going through with the technical training I felt more prepared for real life work and that showed when I was able to earn all my certificates! For the PD days we practiced our interview skills, built connections, and overall, better improved ourselves as human beings. I soon realized that this was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life!

As a military child, I have moved around to various locations such as Alaska, Germany, Arkansas, and now Illinois(Scott AFB). After moving to Macomb, IL to attend Western Illinois University, I was offered to partake in the NPower program. My only previous employment was as a delivery driver for Jimmy Johns, which I did thoroughly enjoy.

I was sent an invite to apply through Indeed, and as I was looking for an IT internship/job, I figured I would apply because the experience and assistance with certifications would be helpful with me finding placement in a job. I was also looking to build connections, as I have heard those are essential to get anywhere in the IT world.

Before NPower, I was a college student haphazardly navigating classes during the pandemic without a clear idea of where I would end up after obtaining my associates. I always knew I was interested in IT but didn't have any resources available to me to pursue it further at the time. I never would have thought that by randomly scrolling through Indeed one night, I’d come across such an opportunity that led to me making great strides in my professional career as well as exposed me to amazing like-minded intelligent people. I applied for the Tech Fundamentals course via Indeed on a whim because I was so tired of pursuing endless credits in community college and the stress of the pandemic was seriously taking a toll on my mental health. I needed an alternative to what I was doing. Something that was less monotonous and more geared toward my interests; and that's exactly what I found with NPower.

Prior to joining the NPower Program I was working on a Degree in Criminal Justice through SWIC while working as a Receiving Associate at The Home Depot.

I found the NPower program one day while answering job listings on Indeed, saw an entry level, no experience needed posting about an IT internship that I applied for that just seemed right based on their requirements.NPower really helped me learn a lot about the IT field. Before the program had little knowledge of computers at all. From the program I would say I have developed skills in building computers and troubleshooting hardware components.

My continued hopes and desires through the program would be a future career in It as well as continued certificates and pursuing further education into Cloud Computing and Cyber Security. PM Class for Cohort 10: thank you all for your support in and out of the classroom, I'm not sure I could have passed all these certificates without our small network.

I was finishing up my degree at UMSL in information systems I hated my job so much I couldn't tough it out until I graduated, and I got stuck in a position where I would be waiting a year before I could move up to a position where I can use my degree.

I wanted to continue growing my knowledge of computers during the time period I was going to be waiting to move up and with this company and I enrolled in this program while I was in school but couldn't balance it all, so I thought this was the perfect time to finish.

I have become so much more technical there were a lot of things we went over in college that never made sense until now. Npower really helped make things click for me; additional education continued development, and networking

Before NPower I was simply working my full-time job that was not degree related, as I had just graduated from college with a bachelor’s degree. However, I was struggling at receiving interviews / opportunities in my field.

I found NPower online while looking and applying for Jobs. NPower stood out to me as I was familiarizing myself with certifications in the tech industry. NPower seemed like a place that I could advance myself professionally and increase my chances at a tech job.

I am currently employed by Worldwide Technology in a nontechnical role, after NPower my hopes are that with my current and additional certifications, I can find myself in a technical role with WWT. If not, I will be pursuing an IT related job while pursuing Networking and Cloud certifications.

Before I started with NPower, I was working three jobs and was in college. was doing a lot, thinking that I could do it all.

I found NPower on indeed. I applied to NPower before, but I didn't get accepted. Then I tried again and got a spot with NPower. I was excited when I found that I was accepted.

Being with NPower is an exciting thing to be in. I learned about IT support and how they work. I also got certified with Google it. I enjoyed being with my other classmates. Even though we were virtual, I enjoyed our laugh, joke, and energy. We all had something nice to say. We were playful to each other, without seeing each other in person, we acted like we knew each other for years.

After NPower, hope to find a career that will help me financially and have great management Thanks, for all the people that helped with getting me this far. I never thought, I would get, where I'm at, without everybody

Before NPower, I was in and out of community college trying to major in computer science then later changed to accounting. was also working a part-time job for a few years to make quick money, just being overall unsatisfied with my situation. I was working an overworked job at the time, unsatisfied with my situation in life. A friend of mine who got a tech job, from the NPower Tech Fundamentals program, referred it to me to change my life as a whole. I always had an interest in computers and technology but had little to no knowledge of it. So, took the opportunity in doing it and challenge myself and try something new and hopefully develop a new skill.

After NPower, I desire to work at a data analyst job, but want to continue to add more potential certifications so I can be even more valuable in the IT field. After this, it only pushes me to continue to look for my purpose.

Before NPower, my main skills were in customer service and management after 6 years in food service. I developed an interest in technology after growing up around my dad who was a computer programmer. After not being able to take more than a handful of college classes, I didn't think I would have a chance at having a career in technology until NPower.

My experience at NPower was so fun and informative. I will be leaving this program with many technical and life skills I didn't have when I first started. My main challenge was myself. I didn't know how to handle failure. After didn't pass the CompTIA 1001 exam the first time, I hit a wall and didn't know how to move past it. Ms. Courtney helped me to understand that I knew the materials and just needed to see that attempt as a learning experience. I passed the second time I took it. This program has not only taught me what I need to begin a career in technology but also that failure isn't always bad.

Prior to Npower, I had a business degree and was working as an Inside sales coordinator when I decided to pursue a master’s degree in Information systems and technology. While I was a student, I came across the NPower program and wanted to learn and earn IT certificates.

NPower has helped me to further develop my technical skills in troubleshooting and networking and I am beyond thankful.

I will be joining the workforce in IT field and would like to continue earning more certificates.

I would like to say thank you to Mrs. Cauiterra for giving me this great opportunity and a big shout out to Ms. Courtney and Sayed for putting their time to teach us.

Prior to NPower, I had just graduated high school. I was working as an overnight manager at Walgreens. I joined the National Guard with plans of going to college tuition-free, but I ended up being medically discharged before I made it to basic training. I had just got discharged from the military and was in a bad place not knowing what was going to happen next. When I got home, I had to plan for my future. I had already heard so many good things about this program plus it was free, so I took a chance, and it worked in my favor.

Before this program, I had zero experience in tech. Everything was fresh, but it keeps me eager to continue learning. I had to reintroduce myself to things like studying and note-taking. I was intimidated by the new things we were being introduced to. I didn't think I would be able to understand some things and that made me not want to keep going. I ended up passing that first big exam and it boosted my confidence 100%. Now I believe in myself and my ability.

Prior Npower, I was working on a degree in Communications, but after almost full completion, I ran out of loans to take out. I found NPower through Indeed. Thinking it was too good to be true.

I have developed skills in problemsolving and time management. I enjoyed the discussions with fellow cohorts. I had medical challenges that hindered me from being present on my computer at times. I persisted through the end with a support system.

I wish to acquire more certifications, actually as many as I can! hope to work for a nonprofit with animals or LGBTQ-related.

Prior Npower, I was a college graduate working as a customer service consultant. I had never heard of NPower until a friend of mine mentioned that she had graduated from the program. She told me that the people were awesome, talked about the certificates she earned and how she was earning more income due to having the knowledge and experience she gained from Npower. This was enough to convince me to join the program.

Due to the NPower, have grown both personally and professionally. I really enjoyed being a part of the program. Not only did I learn a ton of info in such a short time, but I also met some great people. The students and instructors were hilarious. Every day, there was something to laugh about which made going to class that much more exciting.

After graduation, I hope to start a career in a tech field that I will enjoy. I will also continue learning new things and expanding my skill set.

Before NPower, I was just a teenager trying to transition into my life as a young adult. After getting my Associate's in Science and obtaining my driver's license, I figured the next step was finding a job. Although I knew I wanted to do something involving technology, most tech jobs weren't entry level. So I worked as a cashier for a short time before doing remote transcription work. In my free time, studied different computer software and coding languages online in hopes of building skills that would qualify me for more jobs.

NPower has been a very positive learning experience for me. Not only was I taught the technical skills required to succeed in an IT role, but through our professional development days, I learned the importance of having a growth mindset, how to network, how to speak about myself to others, and many more soft and social skills that will help me succeed in any professional setting. Though some workshops would push me out of my comfort zone, I now have confidence that can enter an IT position and thrive no matter what technical or interpersonal situation I encounter.

Before I was introduced to Npower, I was working at random warehouse jobs and attempting to get into their IT department or do anything with tech. Npower brought me a new family and brand-new opportunities. Npower has elevated me to the position I seen myself in, in two years now living it with the ability to start my career in the coming weeks.

My experience with Npower has been and still is great! Coming in i had my hopes high and didn't know what to expect. When I Came in all the instructors where very helpful and nice and all my classmates are amazing. Amazing to the point on the second week of class we all opened to each other had a heart to heart in class we all almost cried. Since that day it was special. I have obtained six Google IT certifications working on two CompTIA certifications at this present moment. Hands down my favorite part of training had to be PD days. PD days where just so welcoming and open and loving. They really had us prepared for whatever it was, that we were going into.

NPower’s model is a solution to building a diverse tech pipeline. Our graduates launch tech jobs with an average starting salary of $41,000–$60,000 and are positioned to advance their career path, enabling them to earn more than their peers in lower-wage jobs. Higher earning potential is the key to breaking generational cycles of poverty, positioning our students and their families to achieve long-term economic success.

WE ARE THE FUTURE OF WORK

Through partner and tech industry collaboration, our free training model is a workforce development solution for the future. In today’s economy, over 50% of all jobs require some degree of technology and digital skill. We prepare untapped, diverse talent to fill the number of technology-oriented jobs that will increase in the U.S. to 13 million by 2025, according to a recent Microsoft Data Science report that estimates that digital job capacity. Our graduates of over 4,000 veterans and young adults are hired at over 2000 companies and nonprofits as interns and full-time employees.

NPower is on a mission to create pathways to economic prosperity by launching digital careers for young adults and military veterans from underserved communities.

Part of this goal is our ‘40 by 22’ initiative, which aims to advance more young women of color in tech careers. This initiative is supported by the Citi Foundation’s Pathways to Progress initiative.
