Salamanca was founded during the ancient times as Salamantica. Under Roman rule (133 v. Chr. Until about 712 n. Chr.), the city grew into an important trading center. Some monuments, par example the Alhambra, need to be booked and paid at least 3 months prior to arrival to guarantee the allotments. After the definite booking, the entrance tickets cannot be cancelled anymore without fee, not even one by one.
