HISTORY MAKERS! The 2021-2022 Irish Boys Basketball season was truly one for the record books, as Coach Bill O’Malley and Assistant Brendan Lynes (‘10) led the team to the biggest finale possible in high school athletics. It was the first time since 1928 for the Irish to appear in the State Championship game. The 2022 trip to State also included a new format for the tournament… Which kept the team, and most Irish fans, in Lincoln for an entire week. Coach O’Malley recounts the road to the championship title… The Irish started the season with a 3-2 record. The 2 losses were to quality teams in Kearney Catholic and Ogallala. They then put together a 23-game win streak to finish as the D1 State Champs. They were able to win their 3rd straight Arapahoe Holiday tournament championship, 2nd straight SPVA title, and 3rd straight district title. Four seniors helped lead the team to success: Connor Hasenauer, Jack Heiss, Caleb Munson, and Jack Lin. The team set a record for wins in a season with 26 and Jack Heiss became the school’s all-time scoring leader. Heiss was named the captain of the AllState Teams in both statewide publications and was joined by Brecken Erickson on the 1st team in each. Caleb Munson and Will Moats garnered honorable mention. Heiss, Erickson, and Munson were also named All-SPVA, with Moats receiving honorable mention. The coaches and players send a big THANK YOU to all of our St. Pat’s alumni and school patrons who came out to support the Irish in their efforts.
