The big question about what is a happening at Reahola Housing in Stateway and who is responsible for the service delivery there have been now addressed to council as a matter of urgency
Councillor Estelle Dansey, ward councillor 35 councillor, says she has submitted formal questions regarding in Reahola, ensuring that the municipality is held accountable for its inaction
“Residents of the Reahola Housing Complex in Welkom endure severe service delivery failures due to the Matjhabeng Local Municipality’s ongoing neglect”
Despite multiple follow-ups since late 2024, the MMC of the Human Settlements Department has failed to respond to Councillor Estelle Dansey’s requests for clarity
Meanwhile, residents on the first floor have struggled with inadequate water pressure for six months Despite assessments and assurances, no corrective action has been taken
“The complex’s infrastructure continues to deteriorate, with overgrown grass, sewage spills, and crumbling roads posing daily risks to residents," says Dansey Dansey has consistently reported
these issues, yet the municipality has failed to act, depriving residents of their basic rights and essential services
Neglecting these responsibilities directly affects the health, safety, and dignity of Reahola residents, leaving them in worsening living conditions
“The DA will not allow this community to be ignored We will keep fighting for Reahola residents until service
delivery is restored
“We urge the Matjhabeng Local Municipality to act immediately and resolve these ongoing failures
“If the municipality continues to disregard its obligations, the DA will escalate this matter to provincial and national levels to ensure that the people of Reahola receive the services they are entitled to,” Dansey says

In March 2025, the Matjhabeng Municipality launched the first phase of its Business Visitations Programme in Welkom The primary aim of this initiative is to start engaging businesses to establish partnerships and address service delivery and investment challenges in the area

On 6 and 7 March, the Matjhabeng Local Municipality hosted its Strategic Planning Session, during which the six key municipal strategic priorities for 2025 were highlighted
The priorities identified are economic development, sustainability and environmental stewardship, good governance, engagement, and partnership, developing community capacity, public safety and emergency preparedness and financial viability
“To effectively achieve this, we recognize the importance of not only the municipality’s officials and the community but also the active participation and support of local businesses with established roots in the Matjhabeng area As such, we have initiated a programme of business visitations during March and April,” says Mokhomo
He says the goal of these visits is to build relationships and trust within the

The first phase of the Business Visitations Programme was launched in Welkom at the beginning of March
“The primary was to start in focusing to engage businesses to establish partnerships and address service delivery and investment challenges in the area This initiative will extend across all six towns of the Municipality, with Welkom serving as the launch point”

Many people see God as a punisher, waiting for them to fail so He can judge them I grew up thinking like that through listening and watching imperfect Christian representatives of God’s nature But the truth is, God is a God of love, mercy and most important, covenant He does not delight in seeing people suffer – let alone punishing them
But his heart is in redeeming, restoring and renewing
God reveals Himself in this way in Exodus 34:6 by saying He is compassionate, merciful, slow to anger, filled with loyal love and faithfulness And proceeds to tell Moses that he is a God who blesses and then makes a covenant to prove himself From the beginning of the Bible, God makes covenants with people to prove his everlasting commitment to them – and scripture is filled with stories of his patience, forgiveness and mercy toward those who turn back to Him
When people fell short, He never abandoned them Consider Noah, Abraham, and David – men who made mistakes, yet were upheld by God’s
promises His covenant is unbreakable
God is also a God of second chances
Jonah ran away, but God still used him
Peter denied Jesus, yet he was restored
No matter how far we stray, God’s arms remain open
Maybe you ’ ve been messing up in life Not getting it right Not being the husband or father that your family needs
Maybe you ’ re overwhelmed as a mother
If you feel unworthy, remember this: God’s love is greater than your failures
His grace is more than sufficient to empower you, and his promise to you is, “I will never leave nor forsake you ”
God never asks us to do anything he hasn’t or doesn’t do himself, so when he says forgive your brother 70 times seven it means that is what he does with us
Acknowledge your failure and need
Failure is not the end, but a learning curve Ask Him for forgiveness and help
Accept his forgiveness and grace Trust Him to restore you, your passion and purpose
Emmanuel Archontakis, of the Kingdom Ministries of Christ
Concern parent and community member:
It has become the norm for our children to attend school like this
Our ward (ward 11) used to be a place that neighbouring wards envied Now it is infested with sewage spillages and drugs When applying for jobs and they see which ward you are from, you get sent away The sewage spillage starts at the Bronville stadium in Waterboer Street, and opposite the Bronville parlour It then flows down to the high school, causing children to encounter problems when entering the school premises
Can someone in power please assist us in this matter?
We have a police station and its officers are not assisting our residents at all They want you to say something before they can intervene
What happened to police patrolling and doing it within their authority?
Nowadays a police officer needs to ask for permission before they can search you, even when they know they have the right to search and arrest you if you have illegal items on you
For those who are managing our ward and taking the ward’s money for their own gain, they need to be apprehended The budget is there to assist our ward and people come from outside and are benefitting
Like the contractor that comes to clean the dumping sites; it is someone from outside our ward who is benefitting from our people's lack of understanding how things work They make a mess everywhere and get away with it
Please investigate this matter and let those responsible be brought to book

Two Matjhabeng schools were part of the educational engagement presented by members of the Tactical Joint Operational Center (TACJOC) that forms part of the multi-disciplinary integrated Operation Vala uMgodi
The visits took place during the Life Orientation periods at the Nanabolela Secondary School in Thabong, and the Ikemisetseng Mine School in St Helena
“The police have a binding responsibility to establish and maintain good relationships with the public in their operations environment This national intervention is carried out within the public sphere across the Free State, more especially in the Lejweleputswa District It is, therefore, the duty of the command structure to revisit abstracts such as integrity, dependability, and competence to measure the kind of relationships the organisation has with the clientele they serve, ” says Lt Col Thabo Covane, police spokesperson of the Free State
The visits were planned by the TACJOC commander, Col Nontando Ndzotyana, and the team
The team first visited Nanabolela where the Pillar Approach Policing Blueprint was followed to educate the learners and conduct recruitment by presenting the poloice as the employer of choice Various police components and units presented their expertise to the learners
Corporate Communication and Liaison was represented by classes
of Gr 9 to Gr 11 Covane says the learners put together research based on impact analysis regarding illicit mining The learner stated that illicit mining is a major drain on the economy It is a crisis that fuels crime, endangers lives, and undermines the progress of the nation
“The learners pointed out that illegal mining is not just about a few desperate individuals digging for survival It has evolved into a well-organised criminal enterprise controlled by ruthless syndicates The consequences are felt by communities who suffer from pollution and degradation of environments,” said Covane Learners also spoke about Operation Vala uMgodi and said that it is the duty of law enforcement to protect communities and the economy from criminal activities The police,
together with other roleplayers in the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure [NATJOINTS] and stakeholders in the mining industry must take responsibility for addressing illicit mining
Lastly, one of the learners presented a different point of view on the topic that for decades, South Africa was known for its riches in minerals and precious metal exports Mining operations shut down in droves from 2005 to date This resulted in a high rate of unemployment, and many households lost the means to survive The second phase of this community outreach at Ikemisetseng had the Operation Vala uMgodi team arrive at the school, bearing gifts Members deployed to combat illicit mining in the Free State put together much-needed items like shoes for the learners
