Change artist’s goal

With the genre Motswako (Street Rap), a young stylist, producer, and recording artist from Nyakallong, Allanridge, wants to raise awareness through his music regarding environmental challenges in general

Tshepo Tjabane, a 23-year-old artist known as LikyGoinHarda, says Motswako is a way of turning street language into a positive motive, but what also gives the good and bad side of the whole concept he is making his rhythm about

His creative journey with street fashion and language started in Gr 6 and Gr 7 Later on in 2016, inspired by soundtracks, aggressive poetic rhythms and a deep love for creating flows with street lingo, he began recording songs In 2021, Tjabane started producing and making beats

“What started as a hobby turned into daily obsession, laying the foundation for the unique sounds I make today,” he says

His music was inspired by the culture of BoyzNBucks

“That culture of unique designs, language, rapping about street fashion, stylish street moves, important women, being ‘Fresh and Fly,’ as well as being special and unique in my way of doing things and the way of mixing the whole craft to make it look best in another way I invested myself in continuing with the culture I really love being different in that way; it is personal to me, ” he says

LikyGoinHarda's first record was in Gr 7

“I performed in a high school talent show in Gr 8 Then later on I released my first EP titled ‘Home Made Recipe’ In 2023 on SoundCloud and YouTube, he was working with artists like CosyTrickyP, FranknessEveryday, King Blow, and more

“That is when my peak of being versatile started I released my second project titled ‘Hood Hope Mixtapes’ comprising 13 songs on 29 August this year ”

He says he wants his music or craft to reach and build a larger, stable audience

“I do not want to merely hype people up, but to give people who relate to my music direction and other ways of resolving their obstacles in life I want to build stability for each individual so that they do not worry about their pain but be grateful and enjoy every breath they take We are just living on borrowed time; this is God’s plan Be thankful and have joy

“I am hoping the genre I perform in will take its route inside the music industry I am proud of making rhythms and flows with my mother tongue and my environment's street language and am hoping to collaborate more with other creatives on a high level in the music industry I want to grow my sound I believe in consistency and allowing myself to be driven by the universe That is all it takes”

Run your own and unique race

On 23 August the Mediclinic Vista Women’s Road Race took place in honour of all women.

I was thrilled to see Capital Sounds broadcast from opposite my home There was an excitement that charged the atmosphere with great expectation and camaraderie The mood was electric as runners passed the waterpoints and were cheered on by teams of supporters who offered water and celebrated the runners It was inspiring to see the diversity of participants, various cultures and ages all running at their own pace

This reminded me of Hebrews 12:1 which says we are to: “ run with endurance the race that God has set before us ” Though all are invited to become Kingdom citizens designed to rule and reign over creation, we are all given a unique mandate and a matching grace to run a race tailor made for us before the foundation of the world Just as each runner has a different goal, some achieve, some encourage, some connect people, some refresh, some

lead, and some simply want to be a part of something greater than themselves, so too, we must identify the unique gifting and abilities we possess to advance the Kingdom of God We can’t run someone else’s race We too want to say like Paul said in 2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” Paul completed his race well I find it beautiful to think that God in his wisdom created us all unique and incomplete on our own, but complete in him and as a part of his body He knew what we would need and has placed us strategically so we can play a role with fellow believers in bringing the Kingdom where we are It is clear that we need one another to complete the race marked out for us Even our physiology responds positively when we connect with others on a deep level and practice servitude May we all embrace the uniqueness of his calling on our lives, while we celebrate and help others find theirs as well

Games reinstill values in community

The Ahanang Senior Citizens Sports Club Tournament that was held in Thabong on 11 September, was a huge success

The day was held in collaboration with the police, Thabong Development Skills Centre, and the Department of Sports in the Lejweleputswa District on 10 September, Local community worker, Patrick Mholo, says it was a day filled with sunshine, teamwork, and the spirit of togetherness by elderly people “Our local DA Matjhabeng councillor, Luttiga Presente of ward 16, presented individual winners and the winning team with medals and a trophy,” says Mholo

Tournament that was held on 11 September are, from the left,Capt Tebello Khakhau, Patrick Mholo, and Sgt Motsamai Mkhwanazi Photo: Supplied

“Events like these remind us that when the elderly come together, we build hope, promote healthy living, unity and opportunities for a better

Thabong,” he says As a community leader, Mholo says they believe in bringing the elderly together

“We create spaces where they can play, connect and strengthen the bonds that make our community thrive We had a wonderful time and remain committed to being present, engaged and active in the lives of the people we represent

“Our gratitude goes to the sponsorship from a good Samaritan who chose to remain anonymous Together, we can create a Matjhabeng where happiness, opportunities and a healthy lifestyle are shared and enjoyed by all," says Mholo

Construction sites a threat to public

Marcus Motshegwa, communication specialist in the Department of Water and Sanitation:

The Department of Water and Sanitation and its entities are concerned about incidents of drowning of children at water and sanitation construction infrastructure sites that are closer to communities

The department urges parents to discourage children from playing at construction sites or the trenches, particularly that have been filled with water There has been several incidents that led to loss of life of children who play at active construction sites

Even though the contractors working at the sites demarcate the area and take precautionary steps to prevent unauthorised entry at the sites, people and most importantly children still find their way to cross the boundaries and enter the sites

The latest incident happened at Kutlwanong, near Odendaalsrus, where boys aged between ten and 11 years was swimming in an excavation filled with water at a construction site A boy

unfortunately got stuck in the mud and died as a result of drowning

In the Duduza township of the Ekurhuleni Metro in Gauteng, two Gr 5 learners aged nine and 11 were found dead in a pond near a construction site Sadly, precious lives have been lost at an early stage after gaining unlawful access to construction sites It is unfortunate that some children are drawn to construction sites as stimulating places to play This is not acceptable and should be discouraged at all costs

The Department of Water and Sanitation therefore makes an urgent appeal to parents to warn children of a danger of playing at the construction sites that are still under way Apart from only children, members of the public are also warned of the possibility of sustaining serious injuries from materials found at an active construction site Open trenches also pose a hazardous risk at the sites and should be avoided Members of the public should at all times stay away from active construction sites

Illegal mining again dealt a blow

Vala Umgodi operators have intensified efforts to dismantle illegal mining operations in the Lejweleputswa area Over the past week, joint operations with mine security led to the arrest of more than 80 suspects and the confiscation of illegal mining equipment and materials

On 9 September proactive team members and private security conducted a disruptive patrol in Virginia Two men, aged 47 and 37, were arrested at a crusher plant after gold-bearing material was found in their possession Later that same day, a special underground operation uncovered and disarmed several “cement bombs” The team arrested three illegal miners at the scene and discovered another illegal plant Following a search, three more illegal miners were apprehended, whilst others fled The team confiscated illegal mining equipment and food supplies

On 10 September, police acted on a tip about a smelting house in Welkom They swiftly arrested two undocumented men, aged 26 and 25, who were in the process of illegally smelting gold Gold-bearing material and smelting equipment were confiscated Later that day, the roving team conducted duties around the G-Hostel in Thabong, where they found and seized abandoned illegal mining equipment, including crucible cups, bowls, and oxygen cylinders

On Thursday, a male suspect was arrested at a mine premises in Theunissen for possessing gold nuggets and gold-bearing material He was also charged with contravening the Mine Health and Safety Act On Saturday an intelligence-led operation in Odendaalsrus yielded the arrest of three illegal foreign nationals at an informal settlement in K10, Kutlwanong The team discovered an unlicensed firearm hidden in a shack “The SAPS remains committed to combating illegal mining activities and will continue to work with partners to ensure the safety and security of the communities,” says Sgt Mahlomola Kareli, Free State police spokesperson

The Eskom Development Foundation acting chief executive officer, Mologadi Motshele, said that Eskom’s CSI investment into Stemi is more than a financial contribution; it is a direct commitment to changing lives

“By enabling more than 17 000 learners to participate in Eskom Expo this year, the programme is giving opportunities to young people who

would otherwise not have access to such platforms

“This includes learners from previously disadvantaged communities and girls, who have historically been underrepresented in science and technology Eskom Expo serves as a vehicle that ensures these learners are exposed to Stemi pathways, developing both confidence and skills that will open doors for their futures” Eskom Expo executive director, Parthy Chetty, said the International Science Fair 2025 is set to ignite global curiosity and celebrate innovation from young minds across the world

“Hosted in Kempton Park, this landmark event brings together brilliant young scientists, esteemed researchers, and visionary sponsors for a week of discovery, collaboration, and recognition Highlights include two awards ceremonies and immersive excursions that aim to stimulate these young minds With international delegations and

generous sponsor support, ISF 2025 promises an unforgettable experience that honours excellence and fosters global unity through science Join us in championing the next generation of changemakers, where ideas take flight and futures are forged” The public is invited to attend the Eskom Expo ISF and see first-hand the impressive projects that these young scientists have developed The exhibition hall will be open to the public on Thursday, 9 October, from 15:00 to 17:00 at the Emperor ’ s Palace Convention Centre in Kempton Park The Northern Free State (Welkom Area) contenstants are: Calista Gerber (Welkom-Gimnasium), Helené Fourie (Trio High School, Kroonstad)), Leila Erasmus (Welkom-Volkskool), Andile Malubela (Barnard Molokwane, Welkom), Mphe Moloto (St Andrew's School, Welkom), Tshoanelo Setai (Eldoret Secondary School) and Fatima Noor (Welkom-Gimnasium)
