RESIDENTS of Humansdorp are being urgedtotake astand following arisein acts of infrastructuresabotage that are placing thecommunity at risk.
AccordingtoKouga Municipality, the latest incidentoccurredon 16 April near Kruisfontein Primary School, where a wirewas allegedly deliberatelythrown acrossanoverhead power line
The act is believed to have been carriedout with the intention of damaging essential infrastructure thatserves the broader community.
Municipal officials have indicated that this is not an isolated occurrence, but
part of agrowing trend of similarincidents in the area.
Of particularconcernisthat those responsible areallegedly known within the community, with local youth increasingly beingdrawn into destructive activities
Despiteongoing efforts and avisible presence on the ground, the incidents persist.
The municipality warned that damage to infrastructure has far-reaching consequences, affectinghouseholds, schools, businessesand essentialservices, while also posingserious safety risks.
The community is now being called
upon to take collective responsibilityin addressing the issue.
Residents are encouraged to report any information related to those responsible, as well as individuals who may be enabling or benefiting fromsuch acts.
Themunicipality emphasised that protecting public infrastructure is ashared duty and urgedresidents to worktogether to safeguard the future of the town.
According to policespokesperson Captain Majola Nkohli, the South African PoliceService (SAPS) has no knowledge of damagetoinfrastructure near Kruisfontein Primary School in Humansdorp on 16 April.
THE SouthAfrican Police Service (SAPS) is warning the public to exercise caution when receiving urgent requestsfor money from friends or family members, particularly when asked to send funds through cash transfer services.
SAPS has identified aconcerning trend wherecriminalsare gaining unauthorised access to individuals’ mobile phones and messaging platforms. Onceaccess is obtained, thesefraudsters impersonatethe phone owner and contact people from their contact list, typically claiming to be in an emergency requiring urgent financial assistance.
These scams are particularly effective because the requestsappear to come from trusted contacts.
Victims are often persuaded to transfer funds through instant cash transfer services, which are extremely difficult to trace or reverse once transactions have been completed, making recovery of stolen funds nearly impossible.
Members of the public are strongly advised to verify all financial requestsbefore acting, regardless of who appears to be sending them.

SAPS further said that the public should be particularly cautious of urgent or emotional messages requesting immediatefinancial assistance, requeststosend money to unknown or unverified recipients, pressure to act quickly without time for proper verification, and unusual language or phrasing that doesn’tmatch the supposed sender’s typical communication style.
Members of the public who suspect they have been targeted by such scams, or who have fallen victim to thesecrimes, are encouraged to report the incidentstotheir nearest police station immediately.

Dear Editor,
Animalcruelty constitutes aserious crime that demands our immediate attention and action.
Every day, countless animals depend on humans for their survival and failing them is both unlawfuland morallyunacceptable.
The harsh reality is thatanimalscannot advocate for themselves –they require our intervention. Too often, we witness
situations where people assume someone else will reportanimal cruelty or neglect. This dangerous mentality allows suffering to continue unchecked.Wecannot afford tobebystanders when an animal's welfare is at stake.
When you encounter an animal in distress, immediate action is necessary. Do not hesitate, do not assume others will act, and do not delay. Reportthe situation without delay. It's important to know that all com-
plaints regardinganimal cruelty arehandled anonymously, sothere is no risk to you as aconcerned citizen.
Collectively, wecan serveasthe voice for those unable to speak for themselves. We must remember that inaction enables the abuser, while prompt action safeguards the innocent animal.
Every reportmatters; every call can savealife, and every intervention sends aclear message that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in our community.
If youwitness animal cruelty or neglect, please contact:
