‘Sulke markte wêreldwyd gevier’
Stellenbosch se ouderwetse Sondag-mark is nou geskiedenis nadat die Stellenbosch-munisipaliteit besluit het enige dorpsmark moet na ’n “meer gepaste” staanplek skuif.
Die Dorp Street Sunday Market is in 2020 begin nadat die Covid 19-grendeltyd talle sakeondernemings in die dorp lamgelê het.
Die medestigters Danneel Stone, die eienaar van Adam &
Eve Collab, en Leani Breedt het aanvanklik sakelui in Dorpstraat genader om weer ’n voet in die middedorp te kry.
“In daardie stadium het dit soos ’n spookdorp gelyk. Ons het eers na ’n buurman met ’n restaurant gegaan en gesels. Almal was in dieselfde bootjie,” verduidelik Stone.
“Ons het toe op ’n retail-dag besluit, wat op die verskeie ondernemings se stoepe sou wees.”
Skielik is die dooie Dorpstraat Sondae in ’n mark met meer as 80 stalletjies
omgeskep.
Alles van vars brood tot Vinyl DJ Paulie se musiek het die straat gevul.
Breedt voer aan hulle het oor die jare verskeie kere na die Stellenbosch-munisipaliteit uitgereik.
“Ons het die munisipaliteit herhaaldelik uitgenooi om self te kom kyk om te verseker ons kom alle nodige munisipale verordeninge na.
“Wetstoepassers het in ’n stadium gesê daar was ’n paar goed waaraan ons aandag moet gee, wat ons gedoen het. Ná die regstelling het ons bevestiging gekry alles is in die haak en so het dit aangegaan vir 2021, 2022 en 2023,” sê Breedt.
Sedert die stigting het die mark ’n hoofbron van inkomste vir vele van die stalletjiehouers geword.
Benewens plaaslike mense wat hul goedere verkoop, is daar stalletjiehouers van so ver as Swellendam.
“Ons het uitstallers wat sedert die begin nooit ’n mark gemis het nie. Baie van hulle beplan hul hele week om die mark. Buiten die finansiële kant van die saak het ’n organiese gemeenskap by die mark ontstaan.
“Die stalletjiehouers en hul gereelde kliënte het mekaar leer ken. Dit is die enigste straatmark van sy soort en die atmosfeer van die mark is ook
eensoortig,” meen Stone. Alles het egter Sondag 23 Julie tot ’n einde gekom.
“Wetstoepassingsbeamptes het opgedaag en gesê die mark moet toemaak en die stalletjiehouers moet huis toe,” vertel Breedt.
“Dit was ’n skok en baie intimiderend toe die vier patrolliemotors met beamptes op ons toesak. Ten spyte van ons verbasing is dit rustig hanteer en die mark is gestaak.”

Parking options further examined
A total of 300 additional parking bays are needed in the Stellenbosch town centre to address the current shortage and help alleviate traffic congestion.
In a bid to find solutions, Stellenbosch Municipality has partnered with Stellenbosch University (SU) and other stakeholders to consider suitable interventions to manage the problem.
A public-private partnership proposal to expand the existing Eikestad Mall parking area to provide additional parking is currently under investigation.
The Project Feasibility Study Report was presented and adopted by the
Stellenbosch Council in August
(“Parkeerplek só bekyk”, Eikestadnuus, 29 August). The proposed parking facility was not approved, but the report was merely adopted – a necessary step for it to be submitted to National Treasury as per the Municipal Finance Management Act. This step is essential to proceed to the next phase, which involves issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP).
Municipal manager Geraldine Mettler said residents and stakeholders will have more opportunities to participate in the process. “It is important to note that another extensive public-participation process will be followed before any approval is granted for the proposed project,” she explained.
Dr Leslie van Rooi, senior director of social impact and transformation at SU, said the university will work with the municipality on ways to improve student movement in and access to the CBD.
“Although SU has two park-and-ride facilities from Coetzenburg and Lentelus Sports Ground we find that staff and students would rather drive around campus looking for parking, and many often park illegally,” he pointed out.
Roelof Loubser, SU’s mobility manager, added: “We need park-and-ride facilities on the outskirts of town that everyone in Stellenbosch can use, not just [those affiliated to] SU.”

Congestion intensifies in the morning and afternoon peak periods. The Project Feasibility Study was shaped by extensive stakeholder consultations, with further public participation processes planned as the project progresses.
This will ensure ongoing transparency and community engagement as the project moves forward.
However, Loubser contended there is ample parking in town and on campus. Most of these bays are on the peripheral areas. “Every year we do a parking audit of all our parking areas, and we have a large number of bays standing empty on our campus,” he said.
“A report on possible park-and-ride facilities will also be included in a report that will be sent back to Council.”
A Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA) has already been conducted, and the upcoming RFP will include a new, updated and more detailed TIA to ensure all considerations are thoroughly addressed.
Furthermore, an environmental impact assessment has also been completed, revealing no environmental triggers, while the municipality has also informed Heritage Western Cape about the potential development. Final heritage approval will be sought should the project proceed to the design stage.
Other initiatives such as the promotion of non-motorised transport (NMT) including cycling, the expansion of the NMT network and the undertaking of preparatory works towards the pedestrianisation of streets in the historical core are currently underway.
The municipality intends to provide alternatives to on-street parking, with the belief that freeing up parking spaces in town centre will improve access for pedestrians and cyclists.
The freed-up spaces will apparently be used for landscaping, widening sidewalks and improving facilities for cyclists.
It is expected that certain streets, designated as preferred routes to and from town centre, would ultimately have slightly increased volumes, while others will have decreased traffic volumes.
Mitigating measures will comprise improving traffic flow to and from town centre at the same time, ensuring the safety and efficiencies of all transport modes.

With studies showing there are open parking bays on campus during peak periods, Loubser said more must be done to encourage the use of these bays. SU can also urge more students to form lift clubs or use bicycles for shorter distances.
“Both SU and the municipality need to address safety concerns that may make residents and visitors reluctant to walk short distances or cycle around town instead of driving,” he concluded.

In hul uitspraak is die munisipaliteit se hoofredes vir die afkeur dat die huidige mark-gebied nie geskik is vir informele handel/markte nie; die gebied
vir sulke bedrywe moet strategies en proaktief identifiseer word; en die munisipaliteit is besig om grond in die dorpsgebied te identifiseer vir ’n mark wat voetganger-vriendelik is, genoegsame parkering het en nie voetgangers se beweging beperk nie.
“Die Dorp Street Sunday Market was ’n klein, private inisiatief oor die afgelope jare wat plaaslike verkopers ’n intieme ruimte vir hul produkte en entrepreneur-gees gebied het – iets wat ons vier en ondersteun.
“Nietemin, wat as ’n klein, informele bymekaarkoms met ’n paar tafels buite gevestigde ondernemings begin het, het uitgebrei na ’n groot, formele mark wat op munisipale eiendom, sypaadjies en padreserwes bedryf word,” lui ’n verklaring van die munisipaliteit.
Die munisipaliteit voer aan hy kyk na meer geskikte ruimtes wat “plaaslike ondernemings en kreatiwiteit stimuleer”.

Intussen het teenkanting teen die munisipaliteit se besluit uit vele orde gekom. In ’n skrywe aan die munisipaliteit sê Ronnie Donaldson, verbonde aan die Stellenboscherfenisstigting, die sluiting van die mark is betreurenswaardig.
“Om die straatmark te verskuif na ’n gekonsentreerde ruimte is sinvol uit ’n burokratiese oogpunt, maar dit is onlogies uit ’n oogpunt om ’n sense of place vir dié gedeelte van die dorp te skep. Dit sal die gevoel van plek en bedrywigheid wat die straatmark op ’n Sondag na Dorpstraat gebring het, tot ’n einde bring. Ander stede sluit juis sekere strate vir straatmarkte op Sondae. Dit is algemene praktyk in baie stede van ons grootte wêreldwyd,” sê Donaldson.
Die Stellenbosch-belangegroep het ook sy misnoeë uitgespreek en meen die munisipaliteit se besluit is kortsigtig.
’n Petisie om die Dorp Street Sunday Market te heropen, is van stapel gestuur. Intussen huisves Casa Cerveza ’n pop-up-geleentheid in dié straat waar ’n paar stalletjiehouers te vinde is.

Nuwe sportveld vir skool

Dit is nie elke dag dat internasionale sokkersterre op ’n Cloetesville-skool toesak vir die opening van ’n wêreldklas sportveld nie, maar Pieter Langveldt Primêr pronk wel met dié eer.
Teen die hange van Cloetesville is twee nuwe kunsgrasvelde waar die leerders nou alles van netbal tot sokker kan speel. Terry Phelan, voormalige Manchester United-speler, was onder diegene wat die opening van die Courts of Hope Vrydag (1 November) ná maande se harde werk en beplanning bygewoon het.
Marco Botha, die uitvoerende hoof van die Open Play-stigting, en sy span het die skoolhoof, Shafiek Jacobs, met die hulp van hul vennote oor die projek genader.
“Dit is nie altyd lekker vir ons leerders buite die skoolhekke nie. Deesdae is hulle te bang om selfs winkel toe te stap, maar ek glo sportvelde moet veilige ruimtes vir kinders wees,” sê Jacobs.
Bendegeweld kom gereeld in die buurt voor en die skoolhoof sê indien enigeen streke by die skool wil uithaal, sal hy vinnig agterkom hy is die enigste gangster by Pieter Langeveldt. Jacobs sê die nuwe sportgeriewe bring nie net hoop vir leerders nie, maar vir die hele gemeenskap. Hy glo vas die velde sal help om die toekomstige sportsterre van Cloetesville op die regte pad te sit.
“Hierdie skool sal uiteindelik so goed soos ’n spog- privateskool wees – dit is
ons droom. Julle kan maar lag, maar die potensiaal van die skool en sy leerders sal ontgin word en sport is ’n manier om dit te doen. Ons leerders neem nou aan 16 sportsoorte deel en kan teen die bestes van Stellenbosch meeding.”
Jacobs sê die Courts of Hope is ’n droom wat bewaarheid is danksy die vennote wat dit moontlik gemaak het.
“Gelukkige leerder, gelukkige onderwyser, gelukkige skool,” is die sentiment wat Jacobs en sy personeel dryf.
Noel Petersen, die direkteur van die Kaapse Wynlande se onderwysdepartement, stem saam en meen die belegging van die Open Play-stigting, Global United-sokkerklub en Stellenboschsokkerklub, bring hoop.

“Die hartjie van die projek lê daarin dat ons in gemeenskapsontwikkeling glo. Om die skool te help, is om die gemeenskap te help, en daarom het al die rolspelers in die projek ingekoop,” verduidelik Botha. Hy sê ’n groot faktor in die sukses van die Courts of Hope was Jacobs en sy personeel se inkoop.
Die oud-leerder en Stellenbosch se onderburgemeester, Jeremy Fasser, het die gemeenskap gemaan om eienaarskap van die fasiliteit te neem en seker te maak dit word nie gevandaliseer nie.
Fasser was die eerste een wat ’n doel aangeteken het toe hy teen Stellenboschsokkerklub se kaptein, Lee Langeveldt, te staan gekom het. Fasser het aanvanklik gesukkel, maar uiteindelik die bal verby Langeveldt gekry.
Die skool se netbal- en sokkerspanne het die dag met ’n paar wedstryde op hul Courts of Hope afgesluit.

Lindie makes it to the top
Lindie-Alet van Staden from L’Ormarins Wine Estate in Franschhoek was named the Western Cape Prestige Agri-Worker of the Year for 2024.
The announcement was made during a glamourous event at Rhebokskloof Wine Estate in Paarl on Saturday (2 November), which was attended by a host of dignitaries and special guests, including Premier Alan Winde.
Dr Ivan Meyer, provincial Minister of Agriculture, Economic Development and Tourism, said Van Staden is a worthy winner. “I look forward to her inauguration as a Western Cape Prestige Agri-Workers’ Forum member,” he pointed out.
“Given her leadership abilities and skill set, she will make a valuable contribution to raising the concerns of agri-workers in the province. She will serve as a valued member of the forum, a body that advises the Western Cape Ministry of Agriculture on matters impacting agri-workers’ lives.”
The competition, which recognises the crucial role agri-workers play in growing the economy and ensuring food security, has seen a significant increase in participation, from 36 entries in 2002 to an impressive 1 233 in 2024.
Participants from diverse backgrounds and 15 regions across the Western Cape competed in 11 categories, showcasing the competition’s inclusivity.
On accepting her award as the overall winner Van Staden, who works as a garden and olive orchard manager at L’Ormarins, expressed her gratitude and commitment to her job.
“Every day I’m motivated by my incredible team and the opportunity to make a difference in my colleagues’ lives,” she pointed out.
“Winning this award reaffirms my commitment to pursuing excellence and helping to drive agriculture’s future in our community. Together, we are achieving our goals and building a sustainable future.”
Dr Mogale Sebopetsa, head of the provincial agriculture department, said:
“The Western Cape Prestige Agri-Worker Awards is not only about individual recognition, it is also aimed at enhancing the image and socio-economic conditions of agri-workers and their families. Ná meer as ’n dekade in die Wynlande en agt jaar as die burgemeester van die Stellenbosch-munisipaliteit het die raadsheer Gesie van Deventer verlede Woensdag (30 Oktober) aangekondig sy hang binnekort haar ketting op. Van Deventer het tydens ’n emosionele raadsvergadering aangekondig sy sal aan die einde van November uittree. Sy is in Augustus 2016 as burgemeester van die Eikestad verkies. Voorheen was sy vir vyf jaar aan die stuur van sake by die Drakenstein-munisipaliteit.
Tertius Simmers, die leier van die Demokratiese Alliansie (DA) in die WesKaap, het Van Deventer in ’n verklaring as ’n ware pilaar van die party beskryf. Hy meen haar toewyding en veggees vir dienslewering laat ’n “onuitwisbare stempel op inwoners in Drakenstein en Stellenbosch” agter.
Stellenbosch se munisipale bestuurder, Geraldine Mettler, sê Van Deventer se rekord spreek van haar toewyding.

Voted best gardens in town
The 2024 instalment of the annual Mayoral Garden Competition was the biggest yet, with 290 entries received in the competition’s third year, about 100 more entries than last year.
The competition, which forms part of the annual Garden Town Stellenbosch festivities, culminated in the prize giving at the Stellenbosch Town Hall during the annual Flower Parade last Tuesday (29 October).
The judging panel comprised WP Steenkamp, Leavelle Snow-Muller and Riana Williams. Thirteen winners were selected, including four grand-prize recipients, who share a prize pool of R45 000, with R11 000 in Checkers
vouchers. Belinda Wildschutt from Meerlust won the top spot.
Stellenbosch Municipality extended its gratitude to Remgro, Bandakhanya, Hadeco Bulbs, Buco Hardware and The Birchery Terrarium Store.
“This competition would not be possible without their generous support and commitment,” said municipal spokesperson Stuart Grobbelaar.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to each of you for helping us bring this initiative to life and for your dedication to making our community a more beautiful, greener space. Your partnership is invaluable, and we look forward to many more successful years together.”
AfriForum in Stellenbosch verkies nuwe bestuur
AfriForum se Stellenbosch-tak het onlangs ’n nuwe bestuur verkies, wat nou aan die stuur van die plaaslike sake sal staan. Die takbestuur is ook op die jaarvergadering op Donderdag 17 Oktober herorganiseer. Tommy van Zyl, AfriForum se koördineerder vir strategie in die Wes-Kaap, het as gasspreker opgetree en die vlam van selfdoen met positiewe woorde weer aangeblaas.
Karin Hanekom, voorsitter van die Stellenbosch-tak, het agtergrond gegee oor hoe die takstruktuur werk en oorsigtelik gepraat oor die tak se rol in die gemeenskap. Theo Turner, die buurtwagleier, het terugvoer gegee oor die buurtwag, hul suksesse en uitdagings en ook gespog met hul hommeltuig en die positiewe uitkomste wat al daarmee bereik is – veral in samewerking met die polisie.
AfriForum skenk ’n boom
Bill Hulme, beampte vir plaaslike regering en omgewingsake, het terugvoer gegee oor die belangrike aksie waarmee die tak besig is wat riool en die watergehalte van die Eerste- en Veldwachtersriviere betref. Die tak beplan om die water deur ’n onafhanklike laboratorium te laat toets nadat klagtes uit die gemeenskap oor dié riviere se vuil water ontvang is. Die res van die nuwe bestuur is Ann Ligman (ondervoorsitter), Antoinette Tigar (sekretaris), Abraham Smit (tesourier), Lezane Ferreira (jeugbeampte) en Marinus Louw (projekte en werwing).
“Ons wil graag lede van die gemeenskap aanmoedig om by AfriForum se Stellenbosch-tak betrokke te raak en hulle te ondersteun om hierdie belangrike projekte te kan dryf,” sê Jacques Benade, AfriForum se distrikskoördineerder vir die Boland.
Die Stellenbosch-tak van AfriForum het in Oktober ’n boom aan ’n park in Onder Papegaaiberg geskenk én sy lede (van links) Jacques Benade (distrikskoördineerder in die Boland), Ria Crafford en Antoinette Tigar (sekretaresse) het dit help plant. As deel van boomplantmaand in September, het AfriForum landwyd gepoog om die toekoms vir die volgende geslag te help verseker. Die Stellenbosch-tak het besluit om ’n waterbessieboom te plant, spesifiek oor die hoë watertafel in die gebied wat veroorsaak dat sommige van die ander bome verdrink. Sou die gebied egter minder reënval ontvang, sal hierdie boom steeds ’n droogte kan oorleef. “Die Stellenbosch-tak wil die gemeenskap aanmoedig om betrokke te raak by die tak sodat hy gereeld projekte soos dié kan aanpak en kan voortgaan om in die gemeenskap te bou en te verbeter. AfriForum wil ’n kultuur van selfdoen in gemeenskappe kweek en dit sal slegs met gemeenskapsbetrokkenheid verwesenlik word,” sê Benade.
‘Elijah’ eindig Endler-konserte
As een van die finale aanbiedings van die 2024-Endler-konsertreeks dirigeer Johan de Villiers Saterdag 16 en Sondag 17 November twee uitvoerings van Felix Mendelssohn se oratorium Elijah
Brittany Smith (sopraan), Minette du Toit-Pearce (mezzo), Siphe Mdena (tenoor) en Conroy Scott (bariton) tree as soliste op, met laasgenoemde in die titelrol van Elijah, waarvoor hy ná die 2018-Toyota Stellenbosch Woordfees die trofee vir die beste vertolker in vokale klassieke musiek toegeken is.
Die koor van meer as 100 sangers bestaan meestal uit oud-lede van die Libertas-koor, maar word ook aangevul deur ’n aantal talentvolle koorsangers uit die Wes-Kaap. Die orkes bestaan uit 45 professionele instrumentaliste, met die konsertmeester Petri Salonen, en die orrelbegeleiding word waargeneem deur Zorada Temmingh.
Die eerste uitvoering van Elijah, gedirigeer deur Mendelssohn het op 26 Augustus 1846 in Birmingham, Engeland, plaasgevind en was ’n dawerende sukses. Mendelssohn se geniaal musikale uitbeelding van grepe uit die profeet Elisa se lewe, met tekste direk uit die twee Koningsbybelboeke, behou tot vandag die onteenseglike status as een van die heel geliefste en mees uitgevoerde oratoria.

Come and tango at Die Boekklub
Musician Stanislav Angelov (pictured) will be one of several performers at Argentine Tango @ Die Boekklub off Helshoogte Pass in Pniël on Sunday (10 November) from 14:00 to 18:30. The event has been arranged by an organisation dedicated to building the Argentine Tango dance and music community in the Boland and celebrating Afro-Argentine artistic culture. The event is open to anyone and spectators are welcome; many experienced dancers from the surrounding area and other parts of the Cape will be joining as part of the attraction. Angelov (accordion and bandoneon) and pianist Albert Combrink will present live performances and arrangements of iconic golden-age tango songs, original compositions and the music of the legendary Astor Piazzolla. We have seen first-hand what a capable and committed leader can achieve, as demonstrated in Cape Town under Geordin Hill-Lewis. His leadership is a prime example of how a dynamic, locally invested leader can elevate a city’s potential and serve its people effectively, no less!
For example, the plan includes a park-and-ride facility to reduce congestion and support sustainable transport solutions. Unfortunately, recent developments have seen efforts to push through a parking lot behind the town hall, which is not in alignment with the CITP.
We require a Mayor sensitive to these critical plans and dedicated to their implementation, not short-term measures threatening our town’s character and liveability.
Our next Mayor must take decisive, hands-on steps to strengthen collaboration with all key stakeholders such as law-enforcement agencies, private security providers and Stellenbosch University. Safety is a primary concern for residents, students and businesses alike, and we need a leader willing to foster unity and enhance security measures throughout our town.
Equally important is a commitment to the Comprehensive Integrated Transport Plan (CITP), which has already laid out thoughtful strategies to address our transport needs. The Mayor’s role is crucial in overseeing the implementation of these plans.
We know some versions of the memorandum have called for only members within the Stellenbosch caucus to submit names for mayoral candidates. However, there are highly qualified leaders outside the caucus who bring fresh perspectives, proven leadership, and the skills required to guide Stellenbosch through the challenges and opportunities ahead. By casting a wider net the DA can choose a truly exceptional candidate who will elevate Stellenbosch’s standing and deliver results for its people. We cannot overstate the potential positive impact this decision will have –not only on our town, but also on how the DA is perceived in Stellenbosch. A strong Mayor will solidify the DA’s reputation as a party that listens to its constituents and responds with action. This choice has the power to elevate our town and the DA.
This is a pivotal moment.
Stellenbosch deserves a leader who will represent us with dedication, vision, and a commitment to progress. We trust in the wisdom of the DA to make this decision and give our community the leadership it deserves.

AfriForum Jeug het in samewerking met AfriForum se afdeling vir jeugleierskap en ontwikkeling die eerste Toekomsskeppersgeleentheid in die Wes-Kaap aangebied.
Die geleentheid was daarop gemik om die nuutverkose gr. 11-leiers toe te rus met spesifieke vaardighede en hulle aan te moedig vir die taak wat voor hulle lê. Leerders van nege skole in die provinsie, insluitend die Hoërskool Stellenbosch, het deelgeneem.

Grade 8 and 9 learners of Rhenish Girls’ High School showcased their historical knowledge with outstanding results in the Junior History Olympiad of South Africa. The online competition saw 908 learners from 47 schools nationwide vying for top honours, and Rhenish delivered an impressive performance, with five learners securing top-90 rankings. The school’s top achievers were Grade 9 learners Keira Campbell (silver, top 90) and Annabella Savage (gold, top 49), as well as Grade 8 learners Jessica Hodsdon (silver, top 90), Kathryn Hodsdon (gold, top 49) and Megan Bennie (platinum – seventh in SA and second among Grade 8 learners). Road safety
To mark National Transport Month, the Ida’s Valley Public Library held an awareness programme on 28 October which highlighted the different transport models on the road.
The library partnered with the Stellenbosch Traffic Department, provincial Department of Mobility and various other stakeholders to present the transport programme to the learners of St Ida’s and Ida’s Valley primary schools, fostering awareness of road safety and the importance of Transport Month.

Om jou unieke leierskapstyl te verstaan en te gebruik om ’n positiewe verskil te maak, is belangrik en ons by AfriForum Jeug is baie opgewonde om hierdie suksesvolle geleentheid weer volgende jaar aan te bied en voort te gaan om jong leiers vir die toekoms te bemagtig,” sê Yvonne Gerber, AfriForum Jeug se jeugbeampte vir ontwikkeling.
Van der Stel gymnasts excel in the competition arena
Van der Stel Gymnastics Club has wrapped up a successful 2024 competition season for its rhythmic and women’s artistic gymnasts, showcasing impressive talent and determination.
The season commenced with notable recognition for Salomie Rademeyer, who was selected for the Western Cape High Performance squad, marking a significant achievement for the club.
At the Western Cape championships in rhythmic gymnastics, Nandipha Mfundisi excelled. She secured second place all-around, along with first place for ball and second place for clubs in the Level 10, 14 years and over category. Salizwa Milanjana also shone, finishing third all-around and third for rope in the Level 4, 13 years division.
In the women’s artistic gymnastics competition, Catherine Malherbe earned third place on vault (Level 4, 10 years), while Anina Rademeyer clinched first place all-around and first on beam
(Level 5, 11 years).
Salomie further added to the club’s accolades by finishing second on beam in the Level 8, 14 years and over category.
It is therefore no surprise that six of the club’s gymnasts proudly received Western Cape colours in the sport. They also participated in this year’s SA Gym Games, the largest national event yet, with over 3 200 participants from across South Africa over a span of 10 days. Anina continued her strong performance at the SA Gym Games, achieving third place all-around and third on vault in the Level 5, 11 years category.
The dedication and talent displayed by the athletes reflect the club’s unwavering commitment to excellence in gymnastics.

Die eerstespan van die Stellenbosch-krieketklub het hom Sondag (3 November) ná ’n nederlaag teen die Robertson-krieketklub die vorige dag mooi opgetel en ’n oorwinning teen Coronations behaal.
Die spanne het mekaar in ’n T20-Gemeenskapsbekertoernooi se Premier A-stryd op die Idasvallei-sportterrein die stryd aangesê, maar die Stellenbossers het met beide die bal en kolf beter gevaar en die wedstryd met sewe paaltjies beklink.
Die span van Pniël het eerste gekolf en 101/7 in hul 20 boulbeurte aangeteken. Julio Meyer (28; 4x4) en Keanu Williams (25*; 2x4) was die besoekers se beste kolwers, terwyl Curt Oliver (3/24) vir die tuisspan in die kol was met die bal en Peter Cyster (1/11 in vier boulbeurte) ’n ekonomiese boulvertoning gelewer het.
Op hul beurt het Stellenbosch (102/3) ligte werk van die teiken gemaak deur in die 18de boulbeurt oor die lyn te tree.
Peter Minnis (46*; 1x4, 3x6) en Calum Moses (20; 1x4) het die meeste lopies vir Stellenbosch aangeteken. Rodwin September (1/4) en die aanvangsbouler Hilton Jephtas (0/6 in vier boulbeurte) het die beste boulsyfers vir Coronations opgedis.
Dit was ’n puik vertoning deur Stellenbosch, veral nadat hulle Saterdag in Robertson heeltemal deur die tuisspan oorrompel is. In dié wedstryd het die besoekers eerste gekolf en slegs 87/9 in 20 boulbeurte
aangeteken. Net Minnis (18; 1x4, 2x6) en Brandon Layman (18; 1x4) het noemenswaardige tellings behaal.
Vir Robertson het Leolin Davids (3/13), Bjorn Cochrane (2/5) en Lefran Snyders (2/16) die kolflys heeltemal vernietig. Die tuisspan (91/3) het slegs 14.1 boulbeurte benodig om die teiken te behaal om die wedstryd met sewe paaltjies te wen.
Roland Evertson (28*; 3x4, 2x6) en Christo Lukas (27; 3x4, 1x6) het met gemak gekolf, terwyl Stellenbosch se Cyster (2/12) ’n vraag of twee aan die kolwers gerig het.
In die ander wedstryd in die Premier A-reeks het die tweede gekeurde Van der Stelkrieketklub Saterdag na die Pen Basson-ovaal gereis om teen die eerste gekeurde Wellingtonkrieketklub te staan te kom.
Die span van Stellenbosch het hul wenreeks gehandhaaf deur die tuisspan met sewe paaltjies te klop en die boonste plek op die punteleer ingeneem.
Wellington het eerste gekolf en die Van der Stel-boulers het die kolwers van die eerste bal af op hul tone gehou, en hulle het aan die einde van hul kolfbeurt 136/7 op die telbord gehad.
Garreth Wolmarans (60; 3x4, 5x6) was in goeie vorm, terwyl Divan Swanepoel (3/28) en Wynand Smit (2/16) die beste boulers was.
Met die Stellenbossers se kolfbeurt het Stefan Maree (43*; 3x4, 2x6), André Hanekom (32*; 3x4, 1x6) en Werner Brand (30; 3x4, 2x6) dinge beheer om hul span na 138/3 in 17.2 boulbeurte en ’n oorheersende sege te neem.
In die Kaapse Wynlandesuidelike liga (50 boulbeurte) het

Die Klapmuts-boulers Lyle Leibrandt (3/33) en Waygon Lottering (3/53) het goeie syfers behaal.
Die tuisspan se boulers was vasberade om die besoekers se kolwers vinnig in die kleedkamer te kry en daarin geslaag, met Klapmuts wat ná 26.1 boulbeurte almal vir 85 lopies uit was.
Muller (4/28) en Tenzil September (2/16) was Spes Bona se beste boulers.
Die Excelsior-krieketklub het in sy wedstryd teen die Franschhoek-krieketklub ’n 10paaltjie-sege behaal, terwyl die Raithby-krieketklub ook in hul wedstryd teen Stellenbosch III met drie paaltjies geseëvier het.
Die komende naweek (Saterdag 9 November) is al drie plaaslike spanne weer aan die beurt in die laaste rondomtaliewedstryde in die T20Gemeenskapsbekertoernooi.
Coronations ontvang Robertson by die Pniëlsportterrein, terwyl Van der Stel en Stellenbosch mekaar die stryd op die Bergsig-sportterrein aansê.
In die Kaapse Wynlande se suidelike liga speel Franschhoek gasheer vir Spes Bona, Excelsior reis na Raithby, Klapmuts kom teen Van der Stel III te staan en Stellenbosch III ontvang besoek van Wemmershoek.

Die tweede ronde van die Westelike Provinsie-rugbyunie se Score 7’s-rugbytoernooi skuif Saterdag (9 November) na City Park, nadat die eerste wedstryde die afgelope Saterdag in Brookside beslis is.
Pniël Villagers se 7’s-span, onder die afrigting van Charles Stubbs en Hendrick Muller, is nog onoorwonne ná drie wedstryde. Hulle het in Groep B vir Collegians met 31-14, Whistling Wheels met 33-5 en Eersterivier met 7-0 geklop.
Saterdag pak Villagers een van die groot kanonne, Hamiltons, in sy eerste wedstryd, daarna vir Unimil en in die laaste wedstryd van die dag vir Drakenstein. Villagers sal op die suksesse van die afgelope naweek wil voortbou.
Kylemore, wat in Groep D meeding, het ook al drie sy wedstryde gewen. Die span word deur Ryan Solomons gebrei. Nes sy bure, glo

Altesame 35 spanne neem aan die 7’s-rugbytoernooi deel en is opgedeel in vyf groepe van sewe spanne elk.
