Dit was wat die minister van binnelandse sake, Leon Schreiber, die afgelope Dinsdag (12 Augustus) by die hoofkantoor van Capitec-bank in Technopark aangekondig het Schreiber se departement en Capitec, FNB en Standard Bank sal dit vroeg in 2026 vir Suid-Afrikaners moontlik maak om vir dié twee dokumente aansoek te doen Dit sal dan later afgelewer word “Ons maak dit nie net vir Suid-Afrikaners makliker om hierdie noodsaaklike dokumente te bekom nie, maar verlig ook die werkslading van die departement se personeel, wat dan op take wat nie deur tegnologie verrig kan word nie, kan fokus,”

It has been a bloody start to August for the community of Khayamandi with local police currently investigating five murders
Sunday 3 August was a particularly bloody day Responding to a complaint about a robbery, police arrived at Watergang at 06:40 to find an unknown man lying on his back on the ground
Captain Nathalie Martin, spokesperson for Stellenbosch police, said the victim had multiple injuries to the head and face “The ambulance personnel declared the victim dead on the scene No arrests have been made in connection with this case ”
Later that morning police were in Nkanini around 08:50 and found a man lying outside his house “This victim had a stab wound to the left side of his chest
and was declared dead by ambulance personnel Two suspects were arrested and are in custody ”
That afternoon police were called to Stellenbosch Hospital to attend to a suspected murder
Arriving at the hospital around 13:00, medical personnel informed officers that a man had come to the facility around 22:30 the day before (Saturday 2 August), with a stab wound to the head, was admitted and died on Sunday No arrests have been made.
The bloodshed continued into the working week On Monday 4 August police arrived in Second Avenue, Khayamandi, where community members directed them to a shack where they found a woman lying on the floor with no sign of life Medical personnel declared her dead on the scene and noted a gunshot wound to the left arm No arrests have been made
On Wednesday morning (6 Au-
gust), police received a complaint of a shooting in Zone J They arrived at an address in Bassi Street to find an unknown man lying face down, “unresponsive with gunshot wounds to the body”, Martin related “Ambulance personnel declared the victim dead on the scene ”
According to members of the Khayamandi Community Policing Forum (CPF) residents are living in fear with many of the elderly locking themselves in their homes during the day. CPF members say residents are hesitant to share information with the police out of fear as their safety cannot be guaranteed “The community needs more education to prevent crime People won’t join the CPF in numbers They are scared to be exposed to criminals and the most dangerous criminals are those busy with extortion Instead of this crime decreasing
it is increasing every day and these criminals are recruiting the young boys,” a CPF member told Eikestadnuus
The community safety structure believes perpetrators who are released to their parents care by the courts, are part of the problem, as the parents do not reprimand them “There is no visible difference [in the behaviour], instead they become heroes and nothing stops them from continuing to commit crime Regular, unannounced random searches at schools is important to deter gangsterism in schools,” a member urged In a bid to take action, a recent prayer session was held to raise awareness focusing how residents can start engaging safely to combat crime The CPF believes a joint venture between municipal law enforcement, the police, churches and community groups is needed to bring about change

Don’t make yourself an easy target for robbers.
This warning comes from Cloetesville police after a recent increase in robberies at specific hotspots in Cloetesville and Ida’s Valley These include the R44, R304, Bird and Lang streets.
“The community must refrain from riding their bicycles alone in isolated areas,” said Cloetesville police spokesperson, Warrant Office Zenobia Sedeman. “Perpetrators modus operandi is for two or three people to approach and threaten victims with firearms or knives. We
warn residents to avoid having visible items which perpetrators are keen to take and or grab.”
Along with helping to prevent crimes police also urge community members to get involved with their local community policing forums (CPFs) to “help the police deliver a more effective service within the Cloetesville policing precinct”.

Die vroue van Women of Worth (WOW) het voorverlede Saterdag (2Augustus) hul vierde liefdadigheidsgeselligheid by Die Khaya in Ryneveldstraat, Stellenbosch, aangebied.
WOW het ten doel om vroue wat ondersteunende rolle in plaaslike gemeenskappe vervul, met vaardighede te bemagtig, wat hulle op hul beurt weer in hulle eie gemeenskappe kan gebruik.
Met die intrapslag het elk van die 10 gaste ’n geskenkpak van die WOW-organiseerders ontvang.
Ná ’n inleiding oor die belangrikheid van die rol van vroue in die samelewing en oor hoe
vroue hulself nie moet afskeep nie, het Elna Sutherland, tans besig met haar doktorsgraad oor hoe om families te ondersteun wat iemand aan kanker verloor het, op vroue-gesondheid gefokus.
Dit was ’n insiggewende, dog informele praatjie oor borskanker en die vroeë waarskuwingstekens waarop vroue bedag moet wees.
Die opvoedkundige sielkundige Maryke Duvenhage het met die gaste oor emosionele welstand gesels, wat tot wedersydse en interaktiewe gesprekke gelei het. Elkeen het ’n joernaal ontvang en is geleer hoe om dit as ’n manier te gebruik om aan hul emosies en gevoelens uiting te gee.

Present (33) is ’n lid van die Cloetesville-sokkerklub se uitvoerende span. Sport en gemeenskapswerk gaan dus vir hom hand aan hand.
“Ek het met ’n bietjie navorsing besef wat die nood is wat so baie meisies en vroue vir sanitêre produkte het, en die
uitwerking wat dit op hul higiëne kan hê as hulle nie toegang tot doekies het nie,” verduidelik hy.

Present sê hy wou vanjaar op verlede jaar se insameling voortbou.
“Dit was ’n sukses en vanjaar het ek gedink ek moet die insameling uitbrei en meer opwindend maak,” sê hy.
So het hy die idee gekry om in Vrouemaand – van 28 tot 30 Augustus – die 129-km-pad van Stellenbosch tot Robertson aan te durf. Draf is hoe Present fiks bly en is daarom die tog wat hy saam
met sy neef Marlin Present aanpak.
Die neefs hoop om 50 pakkies in skenkings vir elke 5km te ontvang om uiteindelik genoeg doekies bymekaar te maak om aan plaaslike skole te kan skenk.
“Dit is onaanvaar dat meisies en vroue moet betaal vir sanitêre produkte vir menstruasie – ’n natuurlike proses.
“Hierteenoor verskaf die staat gratis kondomme. Seks is ’n besluit – menstruasie nie.”
Vir Present is sy ma en tannie die vroue wat die naaste aan sy hart is “Wat ek ook al aanpak, weet ek hulle
staan bankvas agter my en help om my te motiveer.”
