It is estimated that 20% of UK greenhouse emissions come from housing. Over 200 local authorities have declared a climate emergency and tackling it means that action is urgently needed to retrofit better insulation and sustainable heating systems into the UK’s housing stock as a key part of the solution.

Drawing upon our extensive knowledge of working within the housing sector across Great Britain, we have developed a one-stop-shop service to assist social housing landlords achieve their zero carbon targets across their portfolios.

By taking a ‘whole life cycle’ approach, landlords can partner with Novus and benefit from our complete service of identification, application and execution of the funding agreement. Once funding is secured, we are then able to carry out all required works to the highest standards and verified through Trustmark quality and assurance.

Achieving carbon neutral homes has become a major driver in the government’s ‘Net Zero’ carbon reduction plans.

Ensures heat loss prevention measures are installed first to maximise the home’s suitability for low carbon heating either now or in the future. This benefits the tenants in terms of comfort, health, wellbeing and bills.

Local authorities and housing associations across the UK are now able to secure funding through the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund, set to enhance the country’s energy efficiency of socially rented homes. Through the first wave of funding the UK’s worst energy-performing social housing properties, with energy performance certificate (EPC) ratings of D or below, will have the chance to receive vital energy efficiency upgrades including installation of insulation and more energy efficient doors, windows, and heating systems.

The government’s goal, over the next 10 years period, will be to improve homes across the country to be cheaper to run, more energy efficient and fit for the future. With homes accounting for 15% of the UK’s carbon emissions, the government investment will help towards eliminating the country’s contribution to climate change by 2050.
