June has of cially arrived, which means school is ending, sunscreen is reappearing, and apparently, calories no longer count if they come in donut form. At least that’s what we’re telling ourselves this month!
We are especially excited to feature Dr. Jean Rivera and Dr. Hoang Ton, owners of Texas Donuts, on our June cover alongside many of Vienna’s prominent community leaders and residents who proudly support Texas Donuts and our vibrant local business community — including Mayor Linda Colbert, who never misses an opportunity to champion the businesses that help make Vienna so special.
Texas Donuts has become far more than a neighborhood favorite for coffee and sweet treats. It has become a gathering place and a true community partner, consistently supporting local schools, charitable events, organizations, and community initiatives with generosity and kindness.
Their commitment to giving back has made a lasting impact throughout Vienna, and the appreciation from the community is heartfelt and well deserved. This month’s cover celebrates not only a beloved local business, but also the spirit of connection, service, and hometown pride that continues to de ne Vienna at its very best.
If you know Hoang and Jean, you know they are much more than “the donut people.” They are tireless supporters of our community, always willing to lend a hand, sponsor an event, or brighten someone’s day with delicious donuts, coffee, and kindness. As they often say, “We believe in the communities we serve!” — and they truly live those words every day.
This month, we are also proud to highlight SAYVA Teens and their partnership with Rise Against Hunger as our nonpro t spotlight. For the past decade, SAYVA has partnered with Rise Against Hunger to host a large-scale meal-packing event with the goal of packaging at least 15,000 meals in just a few hours. Hosted at the Vienna Community Center for the past three years, this inspiring annual event brings together families and volunteers to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
We are deeply grateful to our local businesses and sponsors whose continued support helps keep Vienna Living and our community thriving. We encourage our readers to support the businesses that support Vienna.
Thank you for reading, supporting local, and celebrating another wonderful summer in Vienna with us.
Warm regards,

Before the doors of Texas Donuts even open each morning, Vienna is already part of the story. The scent of fresh donuts, the steady rhythm of early customers, and the familiar faces of neighbors stopping in for coffee all re ect what Dr. Jean Rivera and Dr. Hoang Ton have built in their newest Northern Virginia home. Their Vienna location is more than a bakery counter on Glyndon Street; it is a gathering place shaped by family, hard work, and a genuine commitment to the community around it.
Finding Home in Vie a
Texas Donuts may have a fresh presence in Vienna, but the business itself carries a long history. Founded in 2002 and rooted rst in Texas, then Oklahoma, the company eventually made its way to Northern Virginia, where it has grown into four locations, with a fth opening in Chantilly later this year. The Vienna shop, at 167 Glyndon St. SE, is the newest chapter in that journey, and for Dr. Rivera and Dr. Ton, it represents both continuity and growth.
The owners describe Texas Donuts as a family-run business built around authentic southern-style donuts made fresh every morning on-site. Everything is done by hand, from the quality ingredients that arrive at the start of the day to the nal product customers take home. Along with their signature Big Texas donuts and specialty cronuts (croissant donuts), the menu includes oven-baked croissant sandwiches, sausage kolaches, and bubble tea, offering something for early commuters, weekend families, and anyone looking for a sweet or savory start to the day.
For Dr. Ton, the path to that success was far from easy, and that history remains central to the way the business operates. He started as a dishwasher and later began cooking with friends in 2019 to make ends meet while attending pharmacy school. After earning his PharmD in 2020, he committed fully to entrepreneurship, acquiring Texas Donuts in 2024. Dr. Rivera and Dr. Ton say that experience shaped the philosophy behind the business: build with intention, work hard, and create an abundance mindset that leaves room not only for success, but for generosity.
A Busine With Purpose
At the heart of Texas Donuts is a simple belief: “Good Donuts for Good Moments.” Dr. Rivera and Dr. Ton say they open their doors each morning because of the community, and they want to offer more than a good breakfast. They want to create places where people gather, celebrate, and feel uplifted.
That spirit is easy to see in the way they talk about their work. One of the things they value most is watching the joy their food brings to people’s faces, whether it is a child choosing a character donut, a police of cer stopping in for coffee, or a family sharing a Big Texas donut on the weekend. They do not describe their business only in terms of sales or expansion, but in terms of the moments that happen around the counter.
Dr. Ton’s broader professional life re ects that same drive. In addition to Texas Donuts, he recently acquired Ad Vice Studios, a 25-year-old experiential national signage company, was recognized with the 40 Under 40 Award from the Asian American Chamber of Commerce in 2025, and received a
Volunteer Recognition Award by Mayor Colbert. Dr. Rivera and Dr. Ton say they pour their hearts into both their businesses and their community, and that combination of ambition and service has helped shape the tone of Texas Donuts in Vienna.
Life in the Neighborh d
Vienna has been quick to recognize the care behind the business. Dr. Rivera and Dr. Ton say they love the town’s tightknit spirit and appreciate how residents rally around local businesses and charities. That sense of support was visible from the start, especially at the grand opening on December 3, 2025, when Mayor Linda Colbert cut the ceremonial ribbon and the shop welcomed Vienna in uencers, the Vienna VA Foodies group, and neighbors eager to see the new addition to town.
The owners also took part in the 13th Annual Taste of Vienna, hosted by the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department, an event that reinforced the connection they already felt with the community. They have also become active with the Vienna Business Association, the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department, and local schools such as Cedar Lane School, strengthening the sense that Texas Donuts is not simply operating in Vienna, but becoming part of its daily life.
That impression is shared by others in town. Mike Davis, a Vienna resident and longtime doughnut fan, said he noticed the consistency and care in the products right away. He also appreciated the warmth of the owners themselves, noting that Dr. Ton and Dr. Rivera treat customers with respect and bring a sincere approach to the business. For Davis, the shop’s impact goes beyond taste; it brings steady foot traf c and fresh energy to a space that has seen many businesses come and go, while drawing customers from across Northern Virginia.
Beyond the Front D r
Community involvement is not an occasional gesture for Dr. Rivera and Dr. Ton. It is woven into the way they run the business. Since opening in Vienna, Texas Donuts has donated more than $20,000 to support local schools, nonpro ts, and individuals in need. Their efforts have bene ted organizations such as One Neighborhood Foundation, Rustic Love Vienna, Shelter House, Kilmer Center, and Cedar Lane School, along with local rst responders and town staff.
Their charitable work has taken many forms. Through the “Texas Gives” campaign, they donate 10% of proceeds on select days to Shelter House, supporting its mission to address homelessness and domestic violence. They also created “Green ONF Donuts,” with 50 cents from every sale going to the One Neighborhood Foundation to support meals for rst responders and food-insecure families, as well as specialized training for Vienna teachers.
For the community, those donations have become more than transactions. Lauren Stancampiano, who has volunteered with the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department for 19 years, said that Texas Donuts has become a welcome part of the town’s fabric. She praised the way Vienna comes together to support the re department and said the owners embody the spirit of a small town through their generosity and care for neighbors. Peggy James, Executive Director of the Vienna Business Association,
© Best Version Media
echoed that sentiment, describing the shop as a refreshing example of what it means to give back. She noted the owners’ joy in supporting nonpro ts, schools, town staff, police, and re departments, along with their willingness to nd new ways to help others raise money and build community.
Ascary Rivera and Diana Hernandez also spoke to that impact, noting that as community members and business owners themselves, they were impressed by the hospitality, passion, and philanthropy they saw in Dr. Ton and Dr. Rivera. For them, Texas Donuts is not only a place for delicious donuts, but a business that brings kindness and generosity into the town.
The owners have also made a habit of surprising local businesses, teachers, nurses, police of cers, snow crews, and re ghters with fresh donuts, turning small acts into memorable gestures. One of their favorite traditions came during their rst Christmas in Vienna, when they partnered with the One Neighborhood Foundation, founded by Lydia Russo, to give away sold-out Vienna Caboose ornaments to the rst 10 customers on Christmas Eve. By 4:30 that morning, a line had already formed. The shop sold about 4,000 donuts in roughly four hours before selling out, and the experience quickly became part of their favorite Vienna memories.
Why Vie a F ls Like Home
For Dr. Rivera and Dr. Ton, Vienna stands out because it re ects the values they try to live by: kindness, collaboration, and a willingness to show up for one another. They say they feel deeply welcomed here, not just as business owners, but as community partners. That welcome has encouraged them to keep nding new ways to serve, whether through donations, local partnerships, or special events.
Their next chapter is already taking shape. With a new location opening in Chantilly later this year and plans to scout Spring eld and Alexandria, Texas Donuts continues to expand across Northern Virginia. They are also planning a big donuteating contest in Vienna in June 2026, another event designed to bring local businesses and nonpro ts together in the spirit of fun and community.
Still, no matter how far the business grows, the center of it remains the same. Dr. Rivera and Dr. Ton thank Vienna for welcoming them with open arms and say the support they have received allows them to do what they love while giving back to a town that means so much to them. In Vienna, Texas Donuts has found more than a market. It has found a home built on good food, generous hearts, and many good moments still to come. k

Sayva Teens,
Rise Against Hunger
By Nisha Patel // Photos provided by Nisha Patel
Rise Against Hunger is a non-pro t organization aimed to help underserved people around the world achieve food security and resilience. Their focus on nutrition, education, and economic empowerment has allowed them to impact millions of lives around the world. As of 2024, they have packaged 54.3 million meals and produced 2,139 metric tons of food.
The South Asian Youth Volunteer Association (SAYVA) partners with Rise Against Hunger to host a large meal-packing event with the goal of packaging at least 15,000 meals in just a few hours. This event has been hosted at the Vienna Community Center for the past 3 years. SAYVA ambassadors, families, and community members come together to volunteer and make this event possible. Volunteers work in an assembly line system to ef ciently package the meals. First, ingredients, including rice, soy, vegetables, and essential vitamins, are carefully measured and placed into bags. Next, the bags are weighed to ensure correct portions and then sealed. Finally, the completed meal packages are boxed and prepared to be shipped to communities around the world facing food insecurity. This collaborative system allows volunteers to package thousands of meals in only a few hours. This year alone, SAYVA Teens and their
families successfully packaged 17,000 meals, in two hours.
This event would not be possible without the support of sponsors and members who help fund this project every year. Their contributions help cover the costs of ingredients and packaging materials so that meals can reach families that need them most. Because of this support SAYVA is able to continue hosting this event annually.
In addition, every November around Diwali, SAYVA hosts a mock wedding fundraiser to help support the Rise Against Hunger event. This celebration recreates traditional Indian wedding customs, complete with performances and cultural traditions. Community members purchase tickets to attend, and all proceeds from ticket sales go directly toward funding the meal-packing event. These funds help purchase the ingredients and supplies needed to reach SAYVA’s annual goal.
The Rise Against Hunger meal packing event is the biggest and most anticipated event for SAYVA. It brings together volunteers of all ages and reminds everyone the power of community service. By working together for just a few hours, volunteers are able to make a meaningful impact and provide thousands of meals to families facing hunger around the world.

e Business Minute
Is Your Busine Actua y Healthy?
By Erika Baez-Grimes, CM&AP

Most of us schedule an annual physical with our doctor.
Our physicians run bloodwork, monitor key indicators, at an attempt to look for issues before they become serious problems. Similarly, we service our car before the engine fails, we maintain our homes before small repairs become major expenses and have gotten used to the maintenance culture as adults.
Yet many business owners go years, sometimes decades, without ever conducting a true health check on the company they spent their lives building and unfortunately, that disconnect is more common than most people realize.
A business can appear successful from the outside while quietly carrying operational weaknesses, valuation issues, customer concentration risk, or nancial inef ciencies that dramatically impact long term value. In many cases, owners do not discover those vulnerabilities
until they attempt to sell the business, secure nancing, bring on investors, or step away from day to day operations. By then, the correction window is smaller and signi cantly more expensive.
Strong companies are built by owners who consistently evaluate the health of the business with the same discipline used in personal health, vacation planning and auto maintenance!
An annual business review has become increasingly important for privately held companies, particularly across the Main Street & Lower Middle Market where many founder-led businesses operate without formal boards, outside investors, or institutional oversight. Some of the key components to review to reduce blind spots are:
• Current Business Valuation
• Cash Flow Health
• Pro t Margins
• Customer Concentration Risk
• Owner Dependency
• Recurring Revenue Stability
• Revenue Growth Trend
• Leadership & Management Strength
• Financial Reporting Accuracy
• Business Transferability
Maintaining a clear understanding of the items about above will positively impact the quality of your organization!
In essence, healthy businesses tend to secure better nancing terms, attract stronger talent, produce better nancial outcomes, weather market disruptions more effectively, and create greater optionality for ownership in the future.
Most importantly, they provide owners with clarity.
Clarity around risk. Clarity around value. Clarity around what has actually been built.
And in today’s market, clarity is the TRUE competitive advantage. If you’d like to discuss a business check up in greater detail, please contact:
