For more than 500 years, Nottingham High School has been shaped by the vision and generosity of its founders and benefactors. From Dame Agnes Mellers, who established the School in 1513, to Frederick Cooper, Samuel Maples, and Sir Thomas White, philanthropy has always been central to our story. When government funding for free places ended, the School created its own Bursary Fund to preserve that founding principle. Thanks to the generosity of our community, over 96 students - around one in eight - currently receive financial support, ensuring that ability, not background, remains the measure of opportunity. Your support enables academically able children to join our community, thrive, and contribute to the wider world. Your continued generosity helps bridge a gap and keeps alive a centuries-old promise: that a Nottingham High School education should be open to all who merit it. Looking ahead, our ambition is clear: no child should be denied a Nottingham High education because of their family’s circumstances. Thanks to the support of Old Nottinghamians, parents, and friends, we are building a Bursary Fund, securing this vision for generations to come. Thank you for your generosity, belief, and commitment to our mission. Together, we continue to ensure that at Nottingham High School, the brightest - not the wealthiest - will continue to flourish. NEWS from the Development Office We are continually privileged to engage with the extraordinary members of our School community. Over the past year, reunions, events, and countless personal connections have reminded us of the strength of our network and the lasting impact of a High School education. Our Old Nottinghamian (ON) gatherings are moments of reconnection and celebration - friendships rekindled, mentors inspiring students, and stories shared across generations. They show that our School community is defined not by geography, but by the bonds and values we share. These occasions also invite reflection as we honour those we have lost. Their commitment and presence continue to shape the School and the lives of Old Nottinghamians, reminding us of the importance of every connection and contribution. Through your support - whether through bursaries, volunteering, mentorship, or advocacy - you sustain these vital relationships. Your generosity opens doors for students, strengthens programmes that unite ONs and pupils, and reinforces the ties that make the High School unique. It is humbling to witness the dedication of ONs in every field. Their stories and achievements show how the influence of the High School extends far beyond Waverley Mount, shaping lives and communities in lasting ways.

Fundraising The Class of 2025 Leavers’ Gift: Investing in Future Opportunity Led by Paul Spedding, Deputy Head (Academic), we were proud to launch the Leavers’ Gift. This initiative is a lasting way for the current year’s leavers to give back to the High School. It’s a commitment to opportunity, ensuring that future students, regardless of background, can benefit from the same exceptional education and community that past students have experienced. Mr Spedding’s aim was to create a legacy of generosity and engage our newest ONs in the culture of benevolence.

From historic schemes that opened access to education for all, to our current bursary programme supporting over 96 students-around one in eight - the School’s commitment to social mobility remains unwavering. Yet the need is greater than ever. Each year, academically gifted children are offered places they cannot afford to take up, a reality we are determined to change. The School now commits £1.6 million annually to its bursary provision, and with your generous support, we continue to uphold the promise of our foundation deed: that talent, not financial means, should determine opportunity. Our vision for the future is bold but simple - to ensure that no deserving child is denied a Nottingham High School education.
