MANAGER'S NOTES Good afternoon and welcome to today’s visitors Bedworth United for this afternoon’s FA Trophy match.

Obviously it’s never ideal going into the first two games with no real knowledge of the players, no pre-season, some lads not wanting to stay so thrown into the deep end with no armbands is a fair assessment.

Then to concede 10 in the first two games, along with losing key players for a few games is never ideal.

However a much improved performance against Shepshed, but still no win, which made the Corby game massive for many reasons. The performance was ok, but the result was what we was after.

We have brought in 4 new lads to complement the talented squad we already have, and over the next few weeks and months we hope to see a much improved and polished performance and better results.

We are going to have a feeling out process, where I’m learning and the players will learn the demand that I will put on them. But what I will say of the lads who have stuck around, is they all want to move in the same direction which is a positive. Win, lose or draw, what you will get from us all while I’m in charge, is maximum effort and commitment, from the top to the bottom. And obviously the more the fans get onboard with us and get behind the team, the more it will helps us.

On that note would like the thank Chris and all the staff and fans for making myself and Daz feel welcome, and we look forward to the future.

CORBY TOWN 0 BASFORD UNITED 1 The Ambers booked their place in the next round of the FA Cup with a hard-fought 1–0 victory away at Corby Town.

In a tightly contested encounter at Steel Park, the decisive moment came after 34 minutes when Tyrease Palmer found the net from Owen Betts’ cross to give Basford the lead.

Basford enjoyed the better of the opening period and looked the more threatening side before Palmer’s breakthrough. Palmer had the ball in the back of net within the first minute only for it to be disallowed by an offside flag. The first 20 minutes was an impressive spell by Basford with the majority of the play happening around the Corby box. New signing Cain Noble was put through on goal on 20 minutes but his effort was saved by the keeper. Nyle Blake and Brad Gascoigne also had efforts blocked in the first half.

Corby struggled to create clear opportunities, with Basford’s defence doing an effective job of protecting their advantage.

Corby improved after the interval and pushed for an equaliser but it took until the last minute for Matt Yates to be called into action and Yates needed to be ready and he saved an effort heading for the bottom corner when he got down quick and tipped it around the post .

Basford remained composed during the closing stages and saw out the game to secure a valuable FA Cup victory. A first win for new manager Gary Setchell with new signings Cain Noble, Tristan ThompsonMatthews and Brad Gascoigne all putting in fantastic performances.

The Ambers will now travel to the West Midlands to take on step 3 outfit Halesowen Town at The Grove on Saturday 5th September.

THE ISUZU FA TROPHY The Isuzu FA Trophy, is a men's football knockout cup competition run by and named after the The Football Association (the FA) and competed by mainly National League teams. The competition was instigated in 1969 .

Eligibility rules have changed over time, but from 2008 onwards the competition has been open to clubs playing in Steps 1–4 of the National League System, equivalent to tiers 5–8 of the overall English football league system. The final has been played at the new Wembley Stadium since its opening in 2007. The record for the most FA Trophy wins is shared by Woking and two defunct clubs, Scarborough

and Telford United, with three victories each. The Trophy is currently held by Gateshead, who beat Solihull Moors in the 2024 final held on 11 May 2024.

The competition was created by the Football Association in 1969 to afford semi-professional teams an opportunity to compete for the chance to play at the Wembley Stadium. Fullyamateur clubs took part in the long-standing FA Amateur Cup, but most of the leading non-league clubs made at least some form of payment to their players and were therefore ineligible to enter the Amateur Cup. The first winners of the competition were Macclesfield Town of the Northern Premier League, who defeated Telford United of the Southern League in the final.Northern Premier League clubs dominated the first decade of the competition, with Telford United the only Southern League team to break the northern clubs' hold on the

competition.

The competition is a knockout tournament with pairings drawn at random. Since the 2021–22 season all drawn games are immediately settled via a penalty shootout. This was introduced to ease fixture congestion.

The Semi-Finals follow the same procedure as the preceding rounds: hosted by the team drawn first out of the hat and decided by a penalty shootout if the scores remain level after 90 minutes.[16] The Final is held at Wembley Stadium. Thirty minutes of extra-time is played if the scores are level at full-time. A penalty shootout is used if the scores further remain level at the end of extra-time.

The months in which rounds are played are typical, with exact dates subject to each calendar. The FA pays a cumulative prize fund that rises round-by-round, with exact figures subject to each new edition.

Will Highland - Goalkeeper Having made over 380 appearances for Hinckley LRFC, keeping an impressive 132 clean sheets over a 10 year period, the 28 year old goalkeeper achieved 3 promotions, a league cup

win and a play off final in the 23/24 season, unfortunately losing on penalties to Harborough Town. Highland went on to play for Step 3 outfit Barwell in the 24/25 season, as well as Aylestone Park FC.

Will is a vastly experienced goalkeeper at Step 4 and his stats at Hinckley LRFC speak volumes for the type of keeper he is. It’s such an important position for me, with the style of football we’re looking to implement in building from the back, and having someone of Wills ability will be crucial to that.

His handling and distribution are excellent. We’re really pleased to have secured Will going into the new season.

Joe Anthony - Defender Joe played in Coventry City’s Academy set-up before spending two years at Kidderminster Harriers.

Manager Jamie Lenton is delighted to have secured the services of the tough tackling defender and is expecting his transition into Step 4 football to be a smooth one. Joe can play anywhere across the back 4, he’s a strong defender and very good technically. Joe is 23, and another local lad we’ve recruited.

Calum Flanagan - Defender Callum has an extensive amount of experience, first starting in 2011 with Kettering and then going on loan to Aston Villa Reserves. Since then played for clubs such as Hinckley United, Worcester, Redditch, Solihull Moors, Halesowen and more recently Stratford Town. Signed for Bedworth United at the beginning of last season.

Harry Craven - Defender Harry joined Bedworth United January during last season who has previously played for Coleshill and Boldmere st Michaels.

Josh Willis - Defender Josh is a new signing for the 2026/27 season, Josh joins the Greenbacks from Racing Club Warwick, bringing proven Step 4 experience, physical presence, and the versatility to operate in multiple positions down the spine of the team.

Daniel Bowes - Defender Daniel has signed for the 2026/27 season following an impressive trial period during pre-season. Daniel has impressed the management team with his pace, composure on the ball, strength in the tackle and quality delivery from wide areas, making him an exciting addition to the squad ahead of the 2026/27. Previous clubs include Coventry United, Coventry Sphinx, and Nuneaton Borough Under-21s.

Charlie Gordon - Midfielder Charlie has developed through the junior section at Coventry Copeswood and has spent the last 3 seasons in the 1st team playing at Step 6. Having captained the team last season, he scored an impressive 15 goals and won the Coventry Evening Telegraph Challenge Cup. He’s 21 years old, fit, strong and competitive, and possesses a great left foot. He can play anywhere across the midfield and as he proved last season, he’s got a real eye for goal, scoring a very impressive 15 goals.

Elliot Parrott - Midfielder Came through the Bedworth United Junior System. Been with the senior team for 9 years, 400+ appearances.

Oscar Barry - Midfielder Oscar played an important role in helping the club secure Step 4 survival last season. Having joined during last Season, he adapted to step 4 exceptionally well. he consistently covered every blade of grass, showed outstanding composure and maturity and led by example in every performance.

Mackenzie Lamb - Midfielder Spent youth ages 8-16 at West Bromwich Albion, before signing a 2 year scholarship.

Charlie Donaldson - Midfielder Joining the club as an academy scholar in 2023, alongside his twin brother. A stint in Banbury United under 18s, Under 21s and in the first team, Charlie gained experience at a Step 3 level.

Charlie then spent a season in the USA through an American scholarship. Charlie rejoins us here at the Oval and we look forward to him showing all he has learnt.

A spell at Coventry Sphinx followed and now Jac has put pen to paper with the Greenbacks.

Still young but already highly experienced at this level, he brings versatility across multiple forward positions, giving the Greenbacks valuable options going into the new campaign.

Edward Rowe - Forward “Teddy” is a product of the Aston Villa Academy. And has played for the Villans in the EFL Trophy and in the Villa squad for the Hong Kong Soccer Sevens in 2023, who went on to win the

tournament. Whilst at Aston villa, he was sent on loan to Gloucester City, scoring 1 goal in 18 appearances.

In August 24, Rowe was signed by Leamington. Spells followed at Worcester City and Rigby Town before arriving at the Greenbacks.

Bryan Kohyrelon - Forward Bryan arrived at Bedworth from Rugby Borough, with a goal scoring pedigree. A sort after striker who has shown goal prowess with Aylestone Park, Hinckley and Rugby Borough. Bryan has shown his goal threat in a Greenbacks shirt.

Matthew Shipman - Forward Matty has played a pivotal role as a striker for Bedworth United. Having played for Coventry Sphinx, Matt has shown his experience and game management skills In helping the team achieve valuable points.
