Belvoir Farm issues urgent call for local elderflower pickers as mini heatwave accelerates flower growth
The extreme weather that has hit the UK this week has brought forward a popular community elderflower harvest by two weeks and organisers are issuing an urgent call for help from the local community to get involved earlier than expected.
Showing how unpredictable the seasons have become, this year’s harvest at Belvoir Farm, which would usually start at the beginning of June, will kick off on 19 May, with people once again getting paid to pick the flowers needed for the company’s award-winning elderflower cordial.
The sudden weather change, coupled with the driest March in 60 years has meant that the English elderflower blooms that herald the start of summer are already well on their way.
Belvoir Farm MD, Pev Manners, said "We're in our 41st year of harvest and it's always a challenging time with weather conditions. Last year was the sixth wettest spring on record, but this year it's been the driest March in 60 years and we've gone from monsoon conditions earlier in the year to a drought where we only had 7mm of rain last month.
“We’re having to water the elderflowers with reclaimed water from our barn roofs and because of this warmer sun, the flowers are starting to bud and we’ve had to bring the harvest forward by a couple of weeks. As a result, we’re asking our amazing local community to roll up their sleeves, get picking and bring in the harvest earlier much earlier this year.”
Belvoir Farm’s 60acre organic elderflower plantations are the largest in the UK and its popular harvest has been connecting local communities with each other and nature for over four decades.
Last year model and influencer Georgia Jones, wife of McFly star Danny, launched the harvest with a VIP and community 80's-themed vintage tea party held in the brand’s elderflower fields to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
This year, as a thank you to the community for over 40 years of loyal service, Belvoir Farm will be hoping to get a record number of people together for its 'Big Elderflower Pick-nic', inviting individuals and community groups to get involved. Taking place on 6th June, it will be hosted by Karen BurnsBooth, the food & travel writer behind the popular Lavender & Lovage blog, and will celebrate the spirit and power of community to help make this year Belvoir Farm’s most successful harvest to date. With her passion for local, seasonal produce, Karen will be inviting local community groups to come together to pick elderflower, visit the farm or attend the Pick-nic event which will be held in the company’s elderflower fields.
“I’ve long been a fan of Belvoir Farm and am delighted to be able to help make this elderflower harvest one of the biggest ever,” says Karen. I’m really looking forward to meeting different community groups to celebrate this quintessentially British flower and learn more about how it’s made into the delicious cordial we see on the supermarket shelves.”
The elderflower harvest will run for five to six weeks and picking takes place from Belvoir Farm’s own 60acre organic plantation and surrounding wild
hedgerows found across Leicestershire and the company’s other adjoining counties, including Nottinghamshire, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire.
Pickers who take part will be paid for every kilo of flowers they pick and can rest assured that Belvoir Farm, with their own sustainable farming methods and Countryside Stewardship practices, always give at least as much back to the land as they harvest. To ensure product freshness, pickers will be encouraged to

BUSTLER MARKET GOES BIG
NEW food hall launching this june
Bustler Market has announced its biggest move yet - expanding its home in Nottingham’s Sneinton Market Avenues with the launch of a brand-new food hall this June. The expansion will see the popular street food venue evolve into a permanent hub, serving the region’s best street food.
This transformation will increase the venue’s capacity to over 400 and introduce three permanent independent kitchens and a fourth kitchen that will feature a rotation of traders, extended opening hours for daytime visitors, and an enhanced events program with a focus on collaborating with local businesses.
The
permanent kitchens will be:
• Banquet1415 (@banquet1415) - serving up mouth-watering Argentinian BBQ
• Dirty Chicken (@dirtychickenuk) bringing bold, crowd-pleasing fried chicken from wings and strips to stacked burgers.
• Big Mouth Gyoza (@bigmouthgyoza) specialising in handmade Japanese dumplings, served solo or with katsu curry and fries.
Having permanent kitchen spots will allow the vendors to offer more variety, including kids’ meals, weekday coffee and lunch deals, and special school holiday offers. These new initiatives will run alongside Bustler Market’s muchloved offering of live music, DJs, a weekly pub quiz, and its legendary happy hours.
Olivia Pritchard, managing director of Bustler Market, said: “We’re beyond excited to be officially announcing the launch of our food hall in Sneinton Market Avenues.
“We have absolutely loved being part of the Sneinton Market community over the last few years. As a small independent business, we’ve felt so much love and support from all of our neighbours and customers and we’re so grateful for that.
“We’re really proud to be taking this next step and to champion local independent street food kitchens, giving them the space and support to grow their business. Of course, you can still count on us to bring the same Bustler vibe - it’ll just be even bigger and better!”
Tom Hinchcliffe, owner of Big Mouth Gyoza, said: “Nottingham is in for a real treat. The team at Bustler has nailed the lineup of traders and we’re thrilled
to be a part of it. We’re so proud to give our homemade gyoza a home in Nottingham’s buzzing food scene.”
“Jess, co-owner of Dirty Chicken, added: “We’re so excited to be joining the lineup at Bustler’s new venture and to be a part of something so exciting for the city of Nottingham. This vibrant new space celebrates the best in local street food, and we’re proud to be cooking alongside such an incredible community of traders!”
Alongside the new kitchens, Bustler Market will also introduce extended opening hours, welcoming customers from Wednesday to Saturday, 11am until late, and Sundays from 11am to 9pm.

THE GREEN REVOLUTION
NOTTINGHAM canalside dining hotspot Binks Yard is joining this year’s pistachio craze, with a bold spring menu update that puts the nation’s new favourite green nut in the spotlight.
Tapping into the trend that has taken sweet treats by storm, seen in everything from Dubai chocolate to pistachio lattes, Binks Yard is flipping the script by showcasing pistachios in savoury dishes that bring depth,
texture, and indulgence to the table.
Leading the charge is the all-new Mortazza pizza, a rich, Italian-inspired creation that brings together a truffle crème fraiche base, silky slices of Mortadella ham, creamy burrata, and a generous scattering of crushed pistachios. This luxurious pizza delivers bold flavour with a satisfying crunch and is already turning heads as one of the must-try dishes of the season. This new dish is part of a wider menu refresh that embraces global flavours and lighter, brighter bites for spring.
HANDMADE CHOCOLATE
with flavour, these handheld delights are sure to be a hit with diners looking for something fresh and exciting this season.
Lewis Thornhill, executive chef at Binks Yard, said: “We wanted to embrace seasonal ingredients in an exciting and innovative way, and pistachios are having a huge moment right now. We’ve seen them in desserts for years, but we’re bringing them into savoury dishes where they add an unexpected hit of flavour and a really satisfying texture. The Mortazza pizza is delicious and indulgent, and we’re excited to see how our guests respond.”
The ever-popular Binks shawarmas have also been given a spring update, with new Creole salmon and bulgogi beef options joining the much-loved chicken shawarma. Perfectly spiced and bursting
The range of Binks Bites, the restaurant’s small plate selection, has also been updated with bold new flavours. Highlights include Thai crab cakes with Binks’ signature sweet chilli sauce and crispy beef with ssamjang sauce, fresh chilli, and spring onion. Returning favourites such as the Goan lamb kofta and Indian spiced hummus with wood-fired flatbread ensure that there’s plenty to share and savour.
Adding to the lineup, the fiery buffalo chicken mac ‘n’ cheese delivers a bold and spicy twist on a comfort food classic. Meanwhile, the much-loved burrata salad makes a triumphant return, offering a creamy, refreshing option that perfectly balances the menu’s richer flavours.
Rounding off the new menu are indulgent desserts, including the return of sticky toffee pudding and chocolate fondant, alongside a fresh spring-inspired saffron and cardamom poached pear, served with yoghurt and pistachio white chocolate.
Lewis added: “Our dishes highlight the best seasonal ingredients while staying true to our signature bold flavours. We’ve taken inspiration from global cuisines, incorporating fresh, vibrant ingredients that reflect the lighter, brighter days ahead. Whether it’s enjoying the surprising flavours of our Mortazza pizza, the exciting new twists on our shawarmas, or the decadent dessert options, we want our guests to experience something truly special this season.
“We also know how important it is to offer variety and convenience, which is why we’ve expanded our express lunch menu and introduced new small plates that are perfect for sharing. There’s a real focus on big flavours and quality ingredients throughout, and we can’t wait for our guests to come and discover their new favourites.” To find out more about Binks Yard and view

Coco Tang
skein Nottingham's newest fine dining restaurant in Hockley
I saw a new opening announced on Instagram and started doing my normal mental walk of the city trying to realise what Skein *used* to be. I took a look at the menu and quickly booked in for the first free night we could get a babysitter.
Weeks passed and the babysitter arrived and I went back to the menu. It looked very much like the kind of food I love. Classic flavours, a list of ingrediants with the surprise of how it will be cooked and a concise menu. I was mentally writing the review already and felt sure I would be able to include ‘No notes’, my expectations were sky high.
Upon arrival I realised it didn’t used to be anything of note, I think I once bought 2 dresses from there when I was 19. The ground floor was full when
we entered, a great sign. At every table sat happy looking people, eating great looking food. Jackpot. We were told our table was ready and made our way upstairs. The furniture and paired back interior is reassuring but upon sitting down I realised they were very much embracing Nottingham shabby chic with a patchy paint job and no soft furnishings (more on this later).
When asked if we wanted bread and olives I enthusiastically nodded and a couple of minutes later 3 small warm loaves arrived alongside 2 different flavoured butters, some shiny olives and a Bloody Mary Amuse Bouche. I started with the bread, although fresh it missed a bit of shine but was full of flavour and complimented by the butters. I passed my bloody mary to The Northerner, the rim
I like eating out, trying new restaurants and being on the receiving end of great hospitality. I am a mum with 2 children (one baby, one 9 year old) so I include how the places I visit work for families. I have worked in bars, cafes, restaurants and pubs for most of my life. Good places should be supported, celebrated and shared.
FOOD CRITIC
being seasoned with rock salt and chilli flakes made it a ‘No’ for me and I should have seen this as a sign. Table salt on a margherita, fine, massive chunks of salt and chilli on a shot glass, nope.
I started with the Cauliflower Veloute and The Northerner had the Lobster and Prawn Ravioli, each dish arrived so full or promise. After a couple of mouthfuls we exchanged spoons, eye contact and exactly the same thought ‘it doesn’t taste of much’. More seasoning! That’s what we needed. I asked for salt and generously shook it all over the dish. The mushrooms awoke with the seasoning but everything else still tasted a bit flat. And not remotely cauliflower-y. The Northerner was finding the same, although it was clear from the texture of the ravioli filling it was shellfish there was no sweetness and no richness to the bisque either.
The Northerner had struggled to choose a main course and I had spoken with quite a lot of passion about a Pithivier, how it was a beautifully lined puff pastry pie filled with rich, warmth. When it arrived I winced a little, it looked more like a hockey puck than a Pithivier. The Northerner had opted for Shoestring fries over mash as he adores them but when normal chips turned up I thought this probably wasn’t his lucky day.
My Lamb Rump and Pomme Anna was definitely more of a ‘looker’ although there was clearly quite a lot of sinew on the lamb and I wondered if this was the best way to cook this cut. Readers, with hindsight, it wasn’t. I struggled to get through most of the mouthfuls of lamb despite some quite determined chewing and had to take a few pieces out of my mouth. The Pomme Anna was delicious, the compressed soft potato slices well seasoned and crisp. Unfortunately the Salsa Verde struggled to hang around on the palette in the face of the tough lamb. When the server came to the table after we had finished she asked how it was and pointedly eyed the lamb. I have had a birthday since my last blog and as I get older my confidence grows so I just delivered the feedback in the kindest way possible ‘The lamb was tough, I couldn’t eat much of it. Sorry’. She apologised and removed the bread and olives from the bill. The irony wasn’t lost on me that it was the part of the meal I had enjoyed the most.
During our main course a table of 7 arrived and the volume in the room ramped up, without any soft furnishings I struggled to hear The Northerner and we decided to call it a day and go for a drink elsewhere. I was deflated and disappointed; probably because my expectations were too high, but also because of the £40+ surcharge any night with a babysitter comes with.

Making More Room
Converting your loft is a practical and rewarding way to create more space in your house. Whether you need an extra bedroom, a home office, a playroom, or simply more storage, a loft conversion can meet your needs while adding value to your property. Here are some steps and considerations to help you make the most of your loft conversion.
Assess Feasibility
Before you start, assess the feasibility of a loft conversion. Check the height, pitch, and structure of your roof. Ideally, you need a minimum head height of 2.2 meters to ensure the space is usable. Consult with a structural engineer to evaluate whether your roof structure can support the conversion.
Plan Your Space
Decide how you want to use the space. This will determine the design and layout. For a bedroom, you'll need space for a bed and storage. For an office, consider desk space and shelving. Sketch out a rough floor plan to visualize the space.
Structural Considerations
Reinforce the floor if necessary. Loft floors may need strengthening to support additional weight. Install appropriate insulation to make the space comfortable year-round. Proper insulation also helps in soundproofing and energy efficiency.
Lighting and Ventilation
Maximize natural light by installing skylights or dormer windows. These also provide ventilation, which is crucial for maintaining air quality. Plan for artificial lighting with a mix of ambient, task, and accent lights to create a welcoming atmosphere.
Access
Ensure safe and practical access to your loft. A staircase is the best option, but it needs to be carefully designed to fit within the existing structure. Spiral staircases or compact designs can save space.
Utilities
Consider the placement of utilities like heating, electricity, and plumbing. You may need to extend existing systems or install new ones. This is crucial if you're adding a bathroom or kitchenette.
Finishing Touches
Choose finishes and furnishings that complement the rest of your home. Use light colours to make the space feel larger and more open. Built-in storage solutions can maximize space and keep the area clutterfree.
Budget
Set a realistic budget and include a contingency for unexpected expenses. Loft conversions can be cost-effective compared to building extensions, but costs can vary depending on the complexity of the project.
Professional Help
Hiring professionals like architects, builders, and interior designers can ensure your loft conversion is done to a high standard. They can provide valuable advice and manage the project efficiently.
By converting your loft, you can effectively increase the living space in your home, making it more functional and enjoyable. Whether you're accommodating a growing family or creating a personal retreat, a loft conversion is a worthwhile investment.

These colourful details are a nod to eatsleepdoodle’s current colour in placemat collection which features ‘to go’ bags in the same shade – adding a nice consistency across the range.
The colourful cotton drawstring bags are not only a sustainable, more eco-friendly form of packaging but can be used to take the pyjamas on-the-go or reused in a new
way. They are a feature that contributes to making the colour-in pyjamas a top-quality product and terrific gift for kids.
High-Quality
Made of 100% single jersey cotton, these high-quality pyjamas are long sleeved with a snug fit for extra comfort and maximum cosiness.
Pens Included
These pyjamas for kids come complete with a set of 10 super wash out fabric pens for endless colouring fun!
Colour, Wash, Repeat!
eatsleepdoodle pens are designed specially to work with their cotton textiles and magically dissolve on a warm wash, leaving the pyjamas fresh and ready for more colouring fun (and it won’t stain anything else in your wash either – even your whites!). From design to sampling, working closely with manufacturers and the team, this pyjama project has been a big one for eatsleepdoodle.
“We’ve been looking to create a new product and expand our range for a while now and starting with colour in pyjamas was the obvious choice for us!” said Jess Pickford, eatsleepdoodle’s Creative Marketing Manager. “The sets are such fun and fantastic gifts which have already had a wonderful reaction from some of our customers. We’re so excited about this launch and can’t wait
to see where this new product takes us!”. eatsleepdoodle’s new kids colour in pyjamas are available in the UK, EU & USA and can be found on their website as well as Amazon and Not On The High Street.

Festival Fundraising Milestone
Beat The Streets - the music festival staged by DHP Family in support of Framework, the charity working to end homelessness across the East Midlands - has seen the fundraising total break through the £500,000 milestone.
The grand total of £554,155 raised since the festival began in 2018 was revealed at a special celebratory presentation on the steps of Rock City. DHP Family MD George Akins was presented a commemorative gold disc by the charity in thanks for the live music company’s continued support.
The annual music festival sees a host of artists from across the region playing the multiple stages with all proceeds from ticket sales, bar and merchandise contributing to the funds raised. Over the years, DHP staff have gone the extra mile running the Robin Hood marathon for the charity too.
The contribution from this year’s festival is going to support Framework’s vital Street Outreach teams who go out 365 days a year to provide lifesaving support to rough sleepers.
Framework Chief Executive Andrew Redfern said: “Beat The Streets is an award-winning event that has quickly become a much-loved musical institution. Everyone at Framework is immensely grateful for the generous support of George Akins and his everenthusiastic colleagues at DHP Family.
“A measure of their achievement is the fundraising total since Beat The Streets began in 2018. It is now well past the £500,000 mark. This is by some distance the greatest corporate fundraising support that Framework has ever
received, and the impact on our service users is enormous.
“The funds raised have complemented the investment by Nottingham City Council, central Government, Homes England and others to tackle the growing challenge of rough sleeping. Regrettably we continue to see this rising across the country – with all the negative consequences it has for individuals and the community. Here in Nottingham we are working with DHP Family and other partners to mitigate these impacts.
"The contributions made possible through Beat The Streets have been many and varied. They include paying for specialist members of our street outreach team; keeping emergency accommodation open throughout the year and providing crucial funds to complete the construction of Akins House - which is now home for eight former rough sleepers. None of this would have been possible without this wonderful annual event.
“So we say a huge ‘Thank You’ to everyone involved – organisers, musicians, stage crew and volunteers of all sorts – for your commitment since 2018 and once again this year. A big shout out too for the enthusiastic audiences who keep coming back, year after year. Beat The Streets is a highlight and landmark of the year. Long may it continue.”
DHP Family MD George Akins said: “Hitting this milestone is a huge testament to the work we put into Beat The Streets every year and the great turnout we always see from the music community in Nottingham. Everyone at DHP is really proud of this achievement but we’re already thinking about next year and raising these vital funds once again.”
Beat The Streets 2025 saw 65 artists play across nine stages at Rock City, Rescue Rooms, Stealth, Bodega and Rough Trade. Bored Marsh, Pet Needs, JayaHadaDream, Do Nothing, Evil Scarecrow and Riding The Low were just a few that performed on the day.
What Should I Include In My Will?
Amanda Voakes, Partner & Solicitor at Nelsons shares a step-by-step guide of what you should think about when deciding what to include in your Will.
Calculate the value of your estate
This includes any assets (i.e., money, investments, property and valuable possessions) you have minus any debts or liabilities. This will enable your solicitor to tailor their advice and advise whether your estate may be subject to Inheritance Tax.
Choose who you would like to execute your Will (the ‘executors’)
Executors have overall responsibility for making sure your estate is administered in accordance with the terms of your Will. People typically appoint between one and four executors.
You don’t need to ask your executors whether they are happy to be appointed in your Will, however, it is recommended so they are aware that they are appointed when you die.
It is common for people to choose family or friends however, you could appoint a professional such as a lawyer or an accountant, independently or jointly with family and/or friends. A professional may charge for dealing with your estate.
Choose guardians for your children
If you have children under the age of 18, it is recommended that you consider who you would like to act as guardian(s) for your children should you die before they reach the age of 18. Again, although your guardians don’t need to be informed, it is important that you ask them before so that they can confirm they are happy with your choice.
Decide who you want to benefit from your Will (the ‘beneficiaries’)
It is helpful if you have a list of the full names and addresses of anyone you want to include in your Will when you meet with your solicitor. As well as friends and family members you may wish to include charities.
Decide how you wish to leave your estate to your chosen beneficiaries
If you want to leave a specific item or sum of money to a particular individual you can state this as a specific gift. You may have several specific gifts you want to make.
The balance of your estate is often referred to
as the residuary estate (this is the estate after payment of any specific legacies and after payment of any estate expenses). You need to consider who you want to receive this and if more than one person/charity is to benefit then the percentages in which they are to share it.
Looking after your Will
At Nelsons, we will keep your original signed Will in our safe storage for no charge and send a copy to you to keep with your papers.
We also offer the option to record the existence of your Will on the National Will register.
Reviewing your Will
We recommend that you review your Will every five years.
It is particularly important to review and update your Will if there has been any of the following changes to your circumstances:
1. You get married or enter into a civil partnership
2. You get divorced
3. You have children
4. The value or composition of your estate changes (e.g. you buy or sell a property or business, gain assets overseas or receive an inheritance)
EXPERT TIPS FOR A STRESS-FREE HOUSE MOVE FOR PETS
Barratt and David Wilson Homes have teamed up with the UK’s leading animal charity, RSPCA, to provide pet owners with advice to make moving home as stressfree as possible for animals.
Martyn Parker, Sales Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes, said: “To ensure our customers’ home moving journey is as smooth as possible, we’ve teamed up with the RSPCA to offer some top tips to keep pets happy during the move.”
The RSPCA, which has a branch in Nottinghamshire, is encouraging buyers to plan ahead and minimise the impact on pets.
Dominika Jagoda, Companion Animals Expert at the RSPCA, said: “Moving house can be a stressful time for everyone, including pets, as they get used to settling into their new home.
“Pet owners making a move should plan ahead and take the time to think about the best way to move a pet, in a way which will minimise the stress as much as possible.”
Here are the top five tips for a happy move from Barratt and David Wilson Homes and the RSPCA:
Plan the Journey
Make sure your pets are fit to travel and if in any doubt, contact your vet. If you own an animal that is pregnant or unwell, seek advice from a vet before transporting them. Plan your route to minimise journey time and maintain suitable comfort and environmental conditions. Never leave an animal unattended in a vehicle.
Reduce Stressful Situations
Try to keep your pet away from all the commotion of packing, unpacking, moving and cleaning to help reduce their stress.
Ask a Vet about Calming Products
Speak to your vet about artificial pheromone products, for example Feliway for cats and Adaptil for dogs –these may help to make your pet feel more secure and settled in their new home.
Update Your Details
Update your contact details with your pet insurers, vets, microchip and any ID
tags. You may need to register with a new vet, depending on how far you are moving.
Love and Affection
Our pets, just like us, need time to settle into their new surroundings, so showing them extra love, attention and most importantly reassurance will help them warm to their new home.
Keep a Routine
When in the new house, try to keep to the same routine with your pets as you had in your previous home.
Dominika said: “Cats, in particular, may find a house move stressful as they can become attached to where they live. At your new house, keep your cat indoors for a minimum of two to three weeks before letting them out.
“This gives them time to get familiar with the new house. When you first let them out, make sure it’s before their mealtime. If they are hungry, you should be able to call them back for their favourite food. Let them go out for short periods to start with and build this up, as this will allow your cat to become more confident.
“It is now a legal
requirement for owned cats in England to be microchipped, so make sure your cats are microchipped, and your contact details are up to date.
“It is also a legal requirement to have your dog microchipped, and it is so important to make sure you update your address details on the microchipping database. This can ensure pets are returned to their owners if they get lost in a new area.
“On moving day, pack all your pet’s things – including food and water bowls, food, bed and toys – into one clearly labelled box so that you can find it easily when you arrive at your new home.

Cotgrave A LOVELY VILLAGE TO CALL HOME
Nestled in the heart of Nottinghamshire, Cotgrave is a charming village that beautifully blends its rich industrial heritage with the comforts of modern living. Once a bustling mining community, Cotgrave has gracefully transitioned into a vibrant and welcoming place, making it an ideal location for families, professionals, and retirees alike.
The village’s history is rooted in coal mining, with Cotgrave Colliery once serving as a key employer in the area. Although the pit closed in the early 1990s, the strong sense of community forged during those decades remains a defining feature of the village. Today, Cotgrave is known not only for its friendly atmosphere but also for its impressive regeneration and investment in local amenities.
For families, Cotgrave offers a fantastic range of services and facilities. The village boasts several well-regarded primary schools, and its proximity to secondary schools and colleges in nearby West Bridgford and Nottingham ensures that children have access to excellent educational opportunities. There are also numerous parks and green spaces throughout the village, including the beautiful Cotgrave Country Park, where families can enjoy walking, cycling, and wildlife spotting year-round.
Leisure and recreation are at the heart of Cotgrave life. The Cotgrave Leisure Centre provides a modern gym, sports hall, and swimming pool, catering to a wide range of fitness needs. There are also several sports
clubs, including football, cricket, and tennis, which foster a strong sense of camaraderie and local pride. Whether you're a keen athlete or simply enjoy staying active, Cotgrave has something to offer.
Despite its village charm, Cotgrave has a surprisingly lively social scene. The local pubs, such as The Rose & Crown and The Manvers Arms, serve as popular gathering spots for residents of all ages. These establishments offer a friendly, laid-back atmosphere where you can enjoy a pint, a meal, and a chat with neighbours. Local events, quiz nights, and live music further contribute to the community spirit and vibrant nightlife.
In terms of location, Cotgrave is ideally situated. It’s just a short drive from the city of Nottingham, making it perfect for commuters who want a peaceful home life without sacrificing urban conveniences. Good public transport links and easy access to major roadways like the A52 and A46 ensure that travel is both convenient and efficient.
With its blend of heritage, community spirit, excellent amenities, and natural beauty, Cotgrave truly is a lovely village to live in.

Not everything that you plan to do over the next few days will work out exactly as you thought they would. However, you are in for a few unexpected bonuses and occurrences that will work to your advantage. You may become privy to some exciting news that could involve you in the planning of an enormous celebration. You may have to make a last minute dash to the airport or other port of travel.
aries
Whatever has been dragging you down or hampering your style you are now well on the road to recovery. Penetrating questions being asked by someone you barely know will force you to tell them to mind their own business. A romance that you have kept secret for so long may surface when you least expect. Your clever wit and ability to think up some believable excuses will save the day. Someone wildly attractive may ask you out to lunch.
cancer
For once don’t use your charm or powers of persuasion regarding a situation that you know is both explosive and will not benefit you in any way. Allow others to dig their own holes by keeping quiet and not leaking out highly confidential information. Finances show signs of recovering putting you in a very agreeable mood indeed. A romantic proposal will be accepted. Book a last minute holiday with your loved one. It looks as though your heart is ruling your head for once. Someone you are growing increasingly fond of is proving their worth. The more you see of one another the more inseparable you are becoming. Problems at work are mounting up. You will suspect someone you know fairly well to be the one who is 'fanning the flames of gossip'. A house purchase could turn out to be the 'sale of the century' as you strike lucky over some delicate negotiations.
Whatever you are doing to improve your love life its certainly working. Your adoring partner will do absolutely anything to please you and you may both decide to take a break together and enjoy a romantic time rediscovering what attracted you both to one another in the first place. A family party could unveil a few skeletons that have been kept hidden in the cupboard causing a major row and a few red faces.
If you don’t look out you risk getting caught up in someone else's drama and this could lead to arguments and misunderstandings. A relationship is starting to turn complicated and troublesome. Don’t you think you have enough on your plate without taking on board problems that have absolutely nothing at all do with you? A job offer with an excellent package may land in your lap sooner than you think.
taurus gemini
Your stubbornness and pride has cost you dear in the past. You have allowed good friendships to evaporate out of your life rather than sit down, face to face and thrash problems out. A love affair may come to an abrupt end. You may suddenly decide to look for a new job because you want 'out'. A last minute decision to take a holiday alone may not go down too well with the family, especially if everyone is busy and rushed off their feet. You need to re think your and decision making.
After weeks of feeling run down and under the weather for one reason or another you can look forward to a major improvement health wise. You will be told something about a close friend or relative that will not come as any big surprise but at least you can piece up a frustrating jigsaw. This will allow you to break free of emotional chains and shackles that have kept you in one spot for years. Look forward to a brand new chapter that brings happiness and peace of mind.
Either go with the flow or risk becoming mega stressed with events of which you have no control over. A declaration of love may come from the wrong person because you don’t feel the same way about him or her. An ex partner may start demanding money or insist on a confrontation. If single you could meet a new comer that ticks ever box and more!! Don’t expect anything to run smoothly but at least your life isn’t boring is it?
A legal matter may still be 'up in the air'. Perhaps you ought to speak to someone who really does know what is going on rather than accepting everything that you are being told. Time is of the essence if you are to avoid losing out financially. A budding new romance looks all set to 'take off' but could prove demanding of your time, especially if you are self employed or in a job where you are working unsociable hours.
As long as you can pay your bills, keep warm and put food on the table, that is all you are going to be concerned about for now. There is nothing you can say nor do that will make anyone else's problematic situations any better as you don’t have a magic wand. Your family and loved ones are your main priority. You are about to distance yourself from a couple of people that you don’t feel comfortable about associating with.
Slowly but surely your are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. An ongoing nagging financial or personal situation will at last show signs of becoming resolved, enabling you to start over again with a clean slate. By now you know exactly who your true friends are and will feel reluctant to allow newcomers into your inner circle. Your love life will improve dramatically to the point of you both arranging a celebration surrounded by close family and friends.
LEAVE A GIFT IN YOUR WILL TO LINCS & NOTTS AIR AMBULANCE
Gifts in Wills from our generous supporters have enabled LNAA to become a leading Helicopter Emergency Medical Service in the UK.
In 1991, the board of the Lincolnshire Ambulance NHS Trust decided to explore the possibility of providing an air ambulance for Lincolnshire. With a Board of Trustees in place and after three years of planning and public fundraising, the Lincolnshire Air Ambulance lifted our first patient on May 13, 1994. In those early day our helicopter, an ex-Police Bolkow aircraft, only flew when we had sufficient funds meaning it was often grounded for months at a time while fundraising took place.
In 2000, we said farewell to our Bolkow and moved to a new generation of aircraft, an MD902 Explorer. This helicopter could accommodate a crew of four – one pilot, a doctor and two paramedics. Ten years later we upgraded to a newer MD902 and by 2013 we started undertaking missions from 7am to 7pm.
In June 2017, we said goodbye to our MD902 and began flying an AgustaWestland 169 – a top of the range Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) aircraft. Just three months after its arrival our crew were carrying blood on board, allowing them to deliver potentially
life-saving blood transfusions for the very first time.
In 2021, we took delivery of our new 6th generation AW169, which along with our Critical Care Cars, enables us to provide a 24/7 service, attending an average of four potentially life-saving missions, every day, 365 days a year.
Gifts in Wills allow our state-of-the-art helicopter, critical car cars, highly skilled pilots, HEMS paramedics and doctors to continue giving some of the most critically ill and injured people their very best chance of survival in what is often their greatest
hour of need – in fact, they fund half of our missions. Since we first began in 1994, we have proudly undertaken over 30,000 potentially life-saving missions. We receive no direct government funding and are not part of the NHS, which means gifts in Wills quite literally help us save lives.
A gift in your Will, no matter size, will help us be there for people in Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and beyond, for many years to come. Together we can continue to save lives.

Due to popular demand, skating legends Jayne Torvill & Christopher Dean have announced a new Nottingham date has been added to their farewell tour ‘Torvill & Dean: Our Last Dance’. Nottingham, their birthplace, is the city where they formed their incredible partnership and skated together for the very first time 50 years ago.
The additional show on the Nottingham leg of the tour at the Motorpoint Arena will take place on 10 July at 7.30pm, in addition to the three shows already scheduled on 11 July (2.30pm) and 12 July (2.30 & 7.30pm). Tickets for the July shows are on sale now from TorvillandDean.com.
The 35 date tour, which travels to arenas across the UK, is the very last chance audiences will have to watch Torvill & Dean in action on the ice together before they hang up their skates for good.
'Our Last Dance’, will see Torvill & Dean tell the story of their amazing half a century partnership, taking the audience on a journey through their incredible career from the very beginning to the present day, with a nostalgic look at the 70s and 80s. This retrospective storytelling will include some of Torvill & Dean’s most iconic numbers, portrayed with the help of a talented line-up of star professional skaters, along with the use of giant screens to showcase some unique videos from the archive.
Plus Torvill & Dean will perform some newly choreographed spectacular routines, including Mack & Mabel, Barnum and a 2025 version of Ravel’s Bolero, the iconic routine for which they won Gold at the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics and changed their lives forever.
Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean said: “The people of Nottingham have always been hugely supportive of us throughout our career, so our last skating performances together had to happen in the city that means so much to us both. We'd like to thank all of our incredible fans who have supported us over the last 50 years. Now is the right time to say goodbye and end on a high. So we have put together an amazing celebratory live show for our farewell tour and hope that everyone who comes to see us will have an incredible time sharing so many wonderful memories."
Joining Torvill & Dean on the ice will be an accomplished cast of Olympic medalists, Dancing on Ice skaters, and talented future stars: professional Dancing on Ice 2025 finalists Annette Dytrt and Mark Hanretty and semi-finalist Vanessa James.
Previous Dancing on Ice winners Vanessa Bauer and Alexandra Schauman. Pro skaters and Dancing on Ice favourites Andy Buchanan, Robin Johnstone, Sylvain Longchambon, Eric Radford, Lukasz Rozycki, and Dan Whiston. The tour will also see Japanese husband and wife figure skating duo and Silver medalists at 2022 Beijing Olympics, Tim Koleto & Misato Komatsubara. Plus USA’s Bronze medal winning figure skater Mirai Nagasu and USA/ French figure skater Philip Warren.

The line up for The Foolhardy Folk Festival curated by acclaimed English folk singer Beans on Toast sees him bringing some of his favourite performers to join him for an uplifting celebration of folk music at Nottingham’s Arboretum. Bank Holiday Sunday 24 Augus t

Beans on Toast said: “Foolhardy Folk Festival’s fifth year – wow! I must say, I’m proper chuffed with this year’s line-up. Not that I’m biased, but I’ve managed to invite some of my favourite songwriters and performers to join us under the trees. It’s always such a special day. To me, it feels like a lovely celebration of music, nature, friends, and family. All in a beautiful setting. What’s not to like?”

army of fans crossing the boundaries of folk, punk, protest, LGBTQIA+ activism and alternative comedy. Her latest release BUILD SOMETHING BETTER is a return to blistering form and has cemented her status as one of Britain’s most beloved songwriters.

the wombles are coming to the Heights of Abraham!
Wimbledon family known to millions as The Wombles.
Great Uncle Bulgaria and litter-picking expert Orinoco are heading to the Heights of Abraham this year and looking forward to meeting young and old visitors alike at weekends and during the school holidays throughout the remainder of 2025. Great
Heights that the Wombles have decided to open an undercover exhibition of their life story at the Heights. Opening in July, it tells the story of their meteoric rise from bedtime stories, to TV shows, films, fashion, pop charts and most recently CGI rendering across the world wide web.
The new exhibition will appeal to older visitors who will remember watching the TV show in the 1970’s, whilst younger visitors will be able to discover the Wombles for the first time, and learn about their passion for making good use of bad rubbish, recycling and being kind and considerate to one another. The Heights is planning further Womble activities including an i-spy trail across the estate and summer craft activities during the school holidays in
Whilst it may be some years since the Wombles were on TV, they’ve never really gone away, and across the country Womble community groups have been carrying on the litter-picking work of the furry TV stars. More recently new story books and a very successful YouTube channel have brought Orinoco, Tobermory, Bungo, and the rest of the gang to millions of new viewers.
Rupert Pugh, (Development Director for the Heights), explains “Though for
many the Wombles may seem just a nostalgic childhood memory, their ethos of ‘make good use of bad rubbish’ has made a long-standing contribution to environmenta l education. We are delighted that Uncle Bulgaria and friends have agreed to spend their holidays here, it’s a real privilege to meet them, and I think their messages are more relevant today than ever before”.
Great Uncle Bulgaria (Womble) said “I first came across the Heights when I was reading my local Wimbledon newspaper, it was the “Underground Overground” headline that first caught my eye. I’d never been in a cable car, so that was a first for me. Of course I had to tell the others all about it, and the Heights has now become our holiday hotspot. We’re going to have a lot of fun over the next few years here in Derbyshire”.
When Can Visitors See the Wombles at the Heights?
The Wombles will be at the Heights every weekend from the 24th May until 2nd November and during the school holidays. The new exhibition will open at the summit just before the summer school holidays. The Wombles World of Making workshops will take place on selected dates in August.

This year’s ‘Classic Motorcycle Day’ on Sunday 6th July at Crich Tramway Village will be the eighth event for the partnership with the Vincent HRD Owners Club and with sponsorship from Derwent Waste Management.

There are numerous trophies for the best motorcycles and scooters, judged by expert judges, including Best Original, Best British, Best Japanese, Best Italian, Best International, Best Pre-war motorcycles, and Best Scooter.
The ‘Best in Show’ Trophy will, again, be voted for by the visiting public, who are encouraged to browse the whole display before making their selection.

ARE YOU SCARED OF CREEPY CRAWLIES?
Fans of prehistoric monsters and creepy crawlies need to make a beeline for Mansfield Museum where they can come face to face with scorpions the size of dogs, meat-eating dragonflies the size of seagulls and ancient millipedes the length of crocodiles.
Carboniferous Monsters is a blockbuster national touring exhibition suitable for all ages, featuring stunning 350 million year-old original fossils, reconstructed giant prehistoric animals, and skeleton casts from museums around the world, many of which have never been displayed in the UK before. The amazing exhibits will be on show in Mansfield until Saturday 27 September. The exhibition is free to view from Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 3pm.
Visitors are taken back to the Carboniferous period – that is 100 million years before the dinosaurs! Back then Earth was full of tropical forests and swamps teeming with bizarre and ferocious creatures, some of which had larger teeth than a T. rex.
Sian Booth, Cultural Services Manager at Mansfield District Council, which runs the museum, said: “We are thrilled to be hosting this brilliant world class exhibition, thanks to our National Portfolio Organisation status and
funding from Arts Council England. “It is definitely one not to miss. These were the dinosaurs’ distant ancestors, the planet’s very first reptiles, the largest creepy-crawlies ever to live, and prehistoric animals unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. The exhibition shows what this area was like 300 million years ago and explores how the remains of these prehistoric plants were the source of the carbon which then formed the coal that would later be mined in Mansfield and other parts of Britain and which went on to fuel the industrial revolution.”

The Great British Staycation
The mad rush to the airport, traffic jams, queues at security and the prospect of being stuck in the middle seat on a budget flight behind the person who reclines their seat at the earliest possible opportunity. These are all things we have to factor in if we want to go abroad for our summer holidays.
But with a rise in air passenger duty and the cost-of-living pressures going nowhere fast, a travel expert has now recommended her staycation tips which she says can rival the rest of the world.
Jane Hawkes, founder of the Lady Janey blog, said: “Jetting off abroad sounds glamorous and relaxing but realistically it comes with a huge amount of stress, not to mention the cost, and you might come back feeling like you need another holiday to relax. And whilst you can’t guarantee sunny weather here in the UK, there’s no doubt we have stunning scenery, beautiful beaches and miles of coastline and waterways to enjoy. For anyone with children, the prices of holidays also skyrocket during the summer holidays, putting that week on a beach or a sightseeing holiday out of reach. But with some good planning you can make sure you have a holiday to remember for all the right reasons on our very own shores.”
Here are some ideas of what Blighty has to offer.
Boating in the Lake District instead of Lake Como, Italy
The picturesque Lake Como is set at the
foothills of the Alps and is lined with quaint villas and villages where tourists can relax at their leisure and hire a boat to soak up the scenery from the water. The UK has the perfect alternative to this Italian escape - the Lake District National Park in Cumbria, which is already one of the most popular holiday breaks for UK tourists with its mountainous landscape, charming market towns and glacial lakes.
A week at a 3* hotel in Lake Como plus economy flights will set you back £3,300 per adult.
Alternatively you could stay at the adorably named Duckling Cottage on the banks of Pullwood Bay, Ambleside for £150 a night for a two-bed cottage and parking for a car.**
York instead of Rome York was founded by Romans and could potentially be more Roman than Rome. There’s plenty of archaeological evidence that Neolithic tribes had already settled in the area before Rome was founded in the 8th century BC. Two Roman Emperors ruled from York for a time – and each died there. Today visitors to York can discover an equal wealth of history and culture to that of Rome with so much to see and do.
A two-night stay in Rome with economy flights (but excluding airport parking) will cost at least £1000 for two adults in early June with prices moving towards £1500 for a more luxury hotel.
In York, for £450** for two you can stay in the Grade 1 listed The Judge’s Lodgings hotel in the centre of the city.
Snowdonia instead of the Swiss Alps Snowdon is Wales' highest mountain,
standing at an incredible 1085 m (3559 ft) high. In comparison to the Eiger (The Eiger is a 3,970-metre (13,020 ft)) or Matterhorn (4,478 meters (14,692 feet)) Snowdon is small in comparison but both boast beautiful scenery and a mountain railway to help you get to the top. So, you don't need to be an experienced climber, like you do for many of the Swiss peaks, to tackle it.
£2500 will get you a week in Pontresina in a 4* hotel bed and breakfast with early morning standard class flights, including transfers.
For a more affordable £989 you can have a week at the Y Branwen adults only, dog friendly hotel by Harlech beach, just a short drive from Portmeirion and only three minute walk from the Royal St David Golf Club.**
The English vs French Riviera
The Mediterranean coast of Southeastern France is one of France’s most popular holiday destinations, with tourists staying at beautiful seaside resorts along the coastline every year. However the English Riviera is steeped in history, with stunning landscapes and gorgeous beaches so holidaymakers looking to explore England’s coastline this year could well find the English Riviera the ideal closer alternative.
Prices on the French Riviera vary dramatically, but for a week in June for 2 people you’re not going to get much change out of £2500 for a room only deal in a 3* hotel away from the beach.
But a week in Torquay – and forget Fawlty Towers now – you can stay in the 4* Lincombe Hall Hotel & Spa for £1035**, booking directly on the hotel’s website,
including breakfast and unlimited spa access.
Bath instead of Paris
Bath is the ideal place to enjoy a romantic city break without leaving the UK. Built for pleasure and relaxation, Bath has been a wellbeing destination since Roman times and as one of the most romantic cities in the UK, there’s no shortage of things to do. Visit the original Roman Baths, walk the Georgian Royal Crescent and bathe in natural thermal waters with incredible views over the city.
For £1100 you can get a deal with Eurostar for 3 nights in a 4* hotel and standard class train, staying at the Hotel La Lanterne in September.
But avoiding the dramas of the train (particularly if you don’t live in the South East) you can stay at the magnificent 5* Macdonald Bath Spa for £767 which is only a short walk from the centre of Bath yet set in magnificent countryside.
You could even indulge in a break at The Gainsborough, a Leading Hotel of the World, whose spa features the original thermal waters, for £940.**
Liverpool instead of Barcelona How about Liverpool as an alternate to
Barcelona? With its impressive history, urban flair and the best nightlife and music, Liverpool is one of the UK’s most interesting and lively cities so definitely worth a visit.
Within a stone’s throw of Liverpool are the beaches of Formby and Southport as well as Rhos-on-Sea in North Wales with its spotless beaches and independent shops and cafes, so you can combine the excitement and culture of Liverpool with a traditional bucket-and-spade break.
A week’s self catering apartment in Liverpool in August for 2 adults and 2 children can be secured for just £1026* compared to a heftier £2618 for the equivalent in Barcelona.
Chester instead of Lucca Italy
Just like Lucca, Chester is a walled city on the banks of a river with a Roman amphitheatre and Roman gardens. With its pedestrianised cobbled streets and plenty of alfresco eating areas, an impressive Cathedral and the best pizza outside of Italy in award winning restaurants such as Stile Napoletana make Chester the ideal UK destination.
Chester is also only an hour from the seaside town of Llandudno
with its beaches and amusements making it ideal for a family break on UK shores.
You can stay in a self-catering apartment in August for £952 in Chester*, versus £1939 for Lucca, with flights departing from London.
*Prices quoted include quotes from booking.com 23rd-30th August based on 2 adults 2 children in apartment accommodation and includes return flights and transfers from London for overseas destinations unless otherwise stated. Your alco holic drink could help you sleep
Experts
reveal simple tweak to make your evening drink sleepfriendly.
Your evening drink might be doing more than helping you relax – it could actually support better sleep, according to new expert advice. Alcohol specialists The Whiskey Masters have teamed up with leading sleep doctor Dr. Paul Jenkins to reveal a surprising trick that could help your body wind down more effectively at night.
Their recommendation?
Add a small handful
of dark berries to your drink
Why berries could be the key to better rest Dr. Jenkins explains that berries such as blueberries, blackberries and cherries are naturally rich in melatonin –the hormone that regulates the body’s sleep-wake cycle.
These fruits also contain antioxidants, which reduce inflammation, ease stress and support the nervous system. Combined with a small amount of alcohol, they may help the body shift into a calmer, more restful state.
Berries are one of the most effective natural foods we have for encouraging quality sleep,” says Dr. Jenkins.
“When added to an evening drink in moderation, they can support the body’s natural processes and help ease the shift from wakefulness to rest.”
The best alcoholic drinks to support relaxation
According to Dr. Jenkins, the type of alcohol you choose matters. He recommends red wine, whiskey, gin and vodka as the best options – particularly when served without sugary mixers.
These drinks pair well with berries and don’t contain the high sugar content you’d find in cocktails or beer, he says. The goal is to support your body’s sleep rhythm, not overstimulate it. Avoid anything with added sugars or caffeine and keep it simple.
Three rules to follow for sleep-smart sipping
The Whiskey Masters suggest sticking to three simple rules if you want your evening drink to work with your sleep, not against it.
First, choose antioxidant-rich berries and either add them directly to your drink or serve them on the side.
Second, limit yourself to one standard drink – that means one single measure of spirits or a 175ml glass of wine. Third, time your drink for between
6pm and 8pm to allow your body to relax and prepare for sleep naturally. Rethinking alcohol’s role in a healthy evening routine. While alcohol is often criticised for disturbing sleep, both experts agree that context is key.
Dr. Jenkins says that when alcohol is consumed in moderation and paired with calming, natural ingredients, it can actually support the body’s sleep signals rather than block them. We’re not promoting alcohol as a sleep aid, he says. But if someone is already having a drink in the evening, making a few smart changes – like drinking earlier and adding ingredients that aid rest – can have a genuine impact.
A spokesperson for The Whiskey Masters added: People are often told to avoid alcohol altogether, but that’s not realistic for everyone. What we’re doing is helping people make better choices. By adding berries and sticking to one glass, your evening drink becomes something that supports relaxation instead of fighting against it. It’s a smarter way to enjoy something people already do.
Small change, better sleep
So before you pour your next evening drink, skip the mixers – and toss in a few berries instead. This simple switch could make your glass work harder for your health, and help you get a better night’s sleep.

Enjoy a blissful night’s sleep
As summer draws closer and nights get longer, the importance of a cool and refreshing sleep takes on an extra signi fi cance, and, with a few small changes to the bedroom environment, Sarah Morgan from Feather & Black demonstrates how to ensure a blissful night’s repose once temperatures rise. The Bene fi ts of Natural Fibres Natural materials such as cotton are breathable, lightweight and comfortable, helping to wick moisture away from the body and regulating temperature throughout the night.
Select cool cotton sheets and duvet covers and change the bed once a week to stay fresh, healthy and rested.
Swap those fleecy PJ’s for light, loose cotton nightwear for optimum comfort while you snooze.
Choosing the right duvet
It is so worth swapping your heavyweight winter duvet for a lightweight version, keeping the body cosy and comfortable without generating additional heat.
A 4.5 tog is ideal, and the Soft as Down collection from Feather & Black offers the additional benefit of being fully hypoallergenic, while retaining all the softness and feel of a natural product. Imbued with a rich microfibre filling, securely encased in a 233 thread count cotton cover, this exquisite duvet is the perfect solution for a luxurious and dreamy night's sleep on even the hottest nights.
Alternatively, invest in a Luxurious British Wool Duvet, an all-year solution as wool is naturally insulating, keeping you warm in winter and cool in summer. Available in a lighter weight of 4.5 togs, this is the ideal option for warmer months.
Maintain a cool environment
Sarah says, "While we wouldn't recommend
re-decorating just for summer, opting for paler, neutral tones in the bedroom works all year round to create a tranquil and relaxing space. Light colours reflect heat and promote a feeling of calm and peace. Selecting tones of white, cream and stone gives that spa-like feel, with the option of adding bolder tones in winter with wool throws and velvet cushions.
Invest in a cooling fan, or if practical, open windows for a natural air-flow and cooling properties.
Consider placing pillowcases in the fridge before bedtime on especially hot evenings.
Keep a refreshing jug of cool water by the bed and stay hydrated while you sleep.

Getting your car looking like new
After a car accident, one of the most common steps in restoring a vehicle to its original condition is getting it resprayed with new paintwork.
The need for respraying typically arises when the car suffers visible damage to its paint, such as scratches, dents, or more severe bodywork damage. While repairs to the vehicle’s frame and structure are necessary, the paint job is crucial for both aesthetic and protective reasons.
The process of respraying a car begins with a thorough assessment of the damage. Any dents or scratches that are present will need to be repaired or filled in before the painting process begins. This is followed by sanding down the existing paint to create a smooth surface for the new coat of paint to adhere to. If the car has any rust, it must be addressed as well, as failing to treat rust can lead to further deterioration over time.
Next, the car is cleaned to remove any dirt, grease, or debris. This ensures that the paint applies evenly and does not get contaminated. After that, a primer is usually applied to provide better adhesion for the paint and to prevent corrosion.
Once the primer has dried, the new paint is sprayed on in layers. Multiple coats are often applied to ensure even coverage and to achieve a highquality, durable finish. Finally, a clear
coat is applied to protect the paintwork and provide a glossy, smooth finish. This process can take several days, depending on the extent of the damage and the quality of the work being done.
Getting a car resprayed not only restores its appearance but also helps protect the vehicle from the elements, keeping it in good condition and maintaining its value.

Colour Theory
Colour has the power to lift your spirits and encourage positive well-being. A touch of soothing blue creates a sense of tranquillity, while a dash of red can bring warmth and energy. Developed over many years, colour theory explores how colours interact, combine, and influence your views. At the centre is the colour wheel, featuring primary, secondary, and tertiary colours - each offering a unique emotional and visual message. Whether you prefer joyful, vibrant hues or delicate, muted tones, the colours you surround yourself with can affect your emotions and transform your space - creating a welcoming and personalised home that feels truly you.
Here, Tom Raffield, Founder and Creative Director, explores three nature-inspired shades from the Cove Lighting Range and details how to weave them into your interior scheme.
TRANQUIL BLUE
When you think of blue, vast clear skies and deep oceans come to mind, so it’s no surprise that this comforting shade is known for its calming properties. Stylish and classic, blue can easily be introduced into a range of interior schemes. Whether you prefer a laid-back coastal look or a more contemporary Scandi aesthetic, you can’t go wrong with this versatile colour.
"Promoting peace and serenity, blue is the perfect addition to the bedroom - a space where you can lay back, relax and unwind. Introduce varying tones of blue, on the walls and through accessories to create a layered and cosy bedroom and complement it with natural woods and organic linens. Position the Hanter Wall Light in Falmouth Blue above bedside tables to add a soothing accent colour and warming glow - restoring calm after a busy day. We know that blue can also promote mental clarity, motivation and concentration, making it a great addition to
a home office to encourage a happy and productive workspace."
STIMULATING RED
Motivating and stimulating, a touch of red goes a long way and can encourage an energy boost just when you need it. Reminiscent of a sunset glow, red complements an earthy palette of orange and pink, bringing warmth and an unexpected pop of colour to a neutral design scheme.
"Known for its vitality, red works well in a dining room and lively areas of the home where socialising and celebrations take place. If you're drawn to the idea of red but prefer a more subtle touch, or keen to try out the ‘unexpected red theory’, try including accents in the corners of your home."
REJUVENATING GREEN
Symbolic with growth and the natural world, green evokes images of lush forestry and rolling landscapes, conveying balance and harmony - creating spaces that are both welcoming and uplifting. Much like blue, the versatility of green complements various design styles, from contemporary to traditional. Rejuvenating and grounding, this peaceful hue brings the outdoors in.
"Complementary to every room in the home, green is a real crowd-pleaser - so where better to introduce it than in the living room? Colourful without overpowering, green is a subtle ‘new neutral’ to more classic shades of grey or white, or if you prefer to go bold, add depth by using richer tones of emerald and leafy green.Layeredlighting is a musthave in a living area and a ceiling light can bring a much-needed focal point to the centre of the room. The Skipper Pendant in Sea Grass Green adds a richness of colour and a sculptural design feature reminiscent of the organic forms found in nature."

clever decorating
Updating your kitchen and bathroom doesn’t have to mean a full-scale renovation. According to experts from Bushboard and Wetwall™, simple and affordable changes can give your spaces a fresh, modern look without overspending.
Emma-Louise Braham, Product Design Expert at Bushboard, shares her practical tips for sprucing up your kitchen, while Bekki Griffiths, Head of Brand at Wetwall™ waterproof wall panel systems, offers her advice for revamping your bathroom.
DITCH THE TILES FOR A SLEEK SPLASHBACK
A new splashback can completely change the look of your kitchen. Consider swapping traditional tiles for a stylish splashback; Bushboard offers aluminium panel kitchen splashbacks that can be fitted directly onto level surfaces, making them ideal for a quick weekend project. The splashbacks are also easier to clean and maintain than tiles since there’s no grout to worry about, and they come in a variety of finishes to suit any style: from bold, contemporary designs to more subtle, natural tones, like woods and stones.
UPGRADE WORK SURFACES
Worktops are a central feature of any kitchen and updating them can elevate the entire space. Compact laminate surfaces, for example, offer a sleek, modern profile while mimicking the look of traditional ceramic. They’re durable, water-resistant, and much more budget-friendly than alternative materials. Opting for a slim kitchen worktop design can also modernise older kitchen layouts. For an extra design touch, consider extending the worktop vertically down to the floor to create a dramatic waterfall edge feature.
FOCUS ON THE DETAILS
Small, thoughtful details can have a big impact. Consider repainting cabinet doors for a fresh look or swapping out handles for ones in a modern material like brushed brass or matte black. A coat of paint on the walls, or even just adding an accent feature like a new blind, coordinating textiles, and accessories, can also completely transform the space.
DIY FRIENDLY INSTALLATION
If you’re tackling the updates yourself, look for materials that are easy to handle and cut with basic tools. Lightweight splashbacks and compact
laminate worktops, for example, are often designed with DIYers in mind, allowing you to save on installation costs.
Budget bathroom refreshes from Bekki Griffiths, Wetwall™
WAVE GOODBYE TO TIRED TILES
If your bathroom tiles are looking dated and grubby, re-tiling isn’t your only option. Bathroom wall panels are a fantastic alternative that is quicker to install and requires less maintenance and upkeep. Plus, some wall panel systems can be fitted directly over existing tiles, eliminating the need for extensive prep work. And with no need for timely grouting, wall panels exude a sleek, high-end finish that’s easy to clean and keeps looking pristine!
FRESHEN UP THE FLOORS
Replacing flooring can completely change the feel of a bathroom, and there are plenty of budget-friendly options to choose from. Vinyl floor stickers are a particularly easy DIY option that comes in various styles and can easily be cut to size to fit any floor space. If you have wooden floors, giving them a new coat of paint or stain can also make a big difference without much cost.
SWAP OUT FIXTURES
Tired taps and furnishings can make a bathroom feel older than it is.
Replacing taps, showerheads, or even cabinet knobs can create an instant lift. Modern finishes like matte black or brushed nickel add a contemporary feel. If you’re handy with DIY, swapping out taps is a relatively straightforward task, but it’s best to consult a professional where complex plumbing is involved.
THE FINISHING TOUCHES
Small updates can have a big impact. Replacing outdated lighting can instantly refresh a space, as can adding a sink splashback, like Wetwall™ Alloy Vanity collection, for an instant pop of personality. Other quick-fix decorative touches, like new towels, artwork, or even indoor plants can inject a fresh feel on newness. By focusing on a few key areas and embracing easy, costeffective materials, you can refresh your bathroom without the stress or expense of a full renovation. These tips are perfect for anyone looking to start the year with a home that feels fresh and inviting.

Alfresco Dining Tips
Take your alfresco experience to new heights this summer by upgrading your garden design. Whether you’re investing in a new outdoor dining set or simply refreshing your existing scheme, Alex Bridgman, CEO at luxury garden furniture brand, Bridgman shares his top tips ahead of the summer
Utilise existing features
When designing your outdoor dining area, make the most of what you have by utilising existing features. Pergolas, for example, can be transformed into an elegant setting with the addition of soft lighting and an abundance of greenery, while paved areas or patios offer the perfect foundation for a stylish, grounded seating area. Don’t forget about archways, stone walls, or statement planting such as hedges, which can help to frame your dining area without the need for a complete redesign.
Perfect positioning
In addition to location, positioning of your outdoor dining area is essential. Choose a spot with plenty of sunlight, ideal for basking in the sun or enjoying a long lunch with friends. If natural shade is limited, opt for a parasol to offer yourself and guests protection
from the sun’s rays; it will also help to offer shelter from any unexpected gusts of wind too. Whether you choose a parasol slotted into your table or a sturdy, cantilever design that can be easily re-positioned as the sun moves around the garden, these welcome additions add comfort and enhance the alfresco experience.
Invest in premium pieces
Investing in weatherproof furniture is one of the best things you can do for your garden. Not only does it look good, but by opting for materials that can withstand the elements, including powder-coated aluminium, teak or synthetic rattan, you are ensuring your outdoor dining scheme not only looks good but will last for many years to come, and not just the upcoming season. Waterproof cushions are another great addition, offering comfort alongside durability, meaning
you don’t have to make a run for it at the first sign of a shower.
Don’t forget to accessorise
Finishing touches help to bring a scheme to life and make it a meal to remember. Start by layering tactile textures with outdoor cushions and weather-resistant rugs to create a dining space that feels cosy and inviting. Next, add solar lighting to extend your dinner well into the evening, setting the mood and offering many practical benefits without the need for excess wires. Lanterns, candles and tableware in complementary tones will help to complete the look, making your garden feel like a true extension of your home.

Education
TIME TO CONSIDER ALL GIRLS?
It’s that stressful time of year where parents are waiting to find out which school their child will be going to next year. There’s a lot to think about - location, facilities, pastoral support and of course the school’s results
If you have a daughter, maybe it’s time to consider an all girls education? Backed by years of experience and research, here at Nottingham Girls’ High School, we believe the benefits are compelling…
GIRLS THRIVE IN ALL GIRLS SCHOOLS
There are countless reasons why girls excel in an all-girls environment. They tend to achieve better grades, develop more confidence, and maintain a more positive outlook on life compared to their peers in co-ed schools.
FINDING HER VOICE
In an all-girls environment, students learn to speak up and speak out, even those who struggle with confidence. Research by the Girls’ Day School Trust 1 shows that girls are 93% more likely to participate in class discussions compared to when boys are present.
IN THE CLASSROOM
How many girls are asked to sit next to the naughty boys in class to keep them quiet? At NGHS, we believe a girl’s education shouldn’t suffer so her male peers can stay on track. And with much smaller class sizes, we can get to know and understand your child as
an individual, tailoring our teaching approach to best meet her needs.
BREAKING STEREOTYPES
Gender stereotypes are ingrained from as early as age 7 but in an all-female environment, young girls are more likely to break free from these stereotypes and enjoy “boys’” activities. At NGHS, this might include playing football and cricket, enjoying Physics and Technology, or applying for veterinary medicine or a pilot’s licence. In fact girls in single-sex schools are 75% more likely to study advanced science courses 2 and 60% more likely to pursue STEM careers 3 .
independent schools in the area – you may be pleasantly surprised.
ALL THIS FOR LESS THAN YOU THINK
The cost of independent school education has been in the news a lot recently, but it’s an investment in your daughter’s future that you’ll never regret. You’ll give her a head start as she develops lifelong confidence, opportunities, and friendships. Compare our fees to other

HOLLYGATE MEMORIAL WOODLANDS
A.M. Buckingham Independent
Family Funeral Services began in Cotgrave in 2008 when owner Tony Buckingham established Cotgrave & District Funeral Services. Since then, they have enjoyed a growing reputation for excellent service and competitive pricing. To enhance their service capacity we have opened branches in Clifton, Carlton and now Bingham, to allow us to serve the wider Nottinghamshire and surrounding areas.
We can arrange all aspects of a funeral and offers each type of service from direct cremation to bespoke funeral services. Each branch is staffed by empathetic and understanding people who will listen to your requirements and help with every aspect of the funeral arrangements. Each branch has a private arranging room and chapel of rest.
We can also offer a dark blue hearse and two matching 7 seat limousines, allowing family members to travel together to the funeral service. Our staff are always on hand to help and advice with all your funeral arrangements.
We solely manage and maintain Hollygate memorial woodlands, situated on Hollygate Lane to the north east of Cotgrave. The woods were planted in 2011 as a conservation woodland to promote the
conservation and reintroduction of birds into this area by planting a variety of native broadleaved species. The planting is naturalistic with open unplanted rides giving access to the 5 separate woods and spinnies. There is an active management scheme in place to help with the establishment of the trees. The company are actively planting more species such as pollen rich plants in the open ride areas to enhance insect life to further encourage all types of bird. Some areas will be left more natural to further help the insects and small animals.
There is a water source at the bottom of the woods, the Grantham canal, which has a large population of amphibious creatures and water based insects to further enhance the wildlife populations. We offer you the opportunity to choose a specific tree and have it as your own growing memorial to the departed loved one. The woods are private but by leasing a tree you also have the right to enter any time and walk or sit in the quiet of the woodlands.
There are many species of trees and shrubs that you can choose as a living memorial for your loved one, including mighty Oaks, flowering Cherry, Ash, Willow, Silver Birch and fruiting Hawthorne or festive Holly. Alternatively, you can choose a family plot where up to 6 cremated remains can be interred around a single tree. We also have supplies of native woodland plants, sourced from sustainable sites, that can be planted around the memorial sites.
Alternatively, we do offer full burial plots if cremation is not an option for you. We can supply coffins, caskets, urns and pouches made from natural and biodegradable materials for the interment of remains, to ensure the woodlands continue to develop into a natural environment.
Please feel free to contact any of our offices below for more information.

The Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service (MCISS) at the YMCA Community and Activity Village on Lord Hawke Way has started welcoming service users. Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which manages Newark Hospital along with King’s Mill and Mansfield Community hospitals, is working in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support to provide the vital service in response to feedback from patients.
The development, which is an extension of the existing service at King’s Mill Hospital, is the first of its kind nationally and is likely to attract interest and help shape the future delivery of Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Services. A Macmillan information library will remain at the Eastwood Centre in Newark Hospital and will signpost people to the MCISS at the YMCA Village, Newark.
YMCA Village is a welcoming space in Newark that already brings together people from all around the community. With an on-site café, a friendly, supportive atmosphere, and a range of health and wellbeing activities, it offers a sense of belonging. Partnering with the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service, the Village provides a comfortable, accessible environment where people affected by cancer can easily access vital resources and services close to home.
According to information held by
Sherwood Forest Hospitals, around 250 people a year in the Newark (NG24 postcode) area are diagnosed with cancer and feedback shows that people welcome care and support closer to home.
The centre, which is open Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4pm, offers drop-in services and appointments for personalised support. Advice and signposting from a range of partners will be available to address worries and concerns that may stem from cancer - including physical, practical, emotional, social and financial issues.
The new service is designed to provide information and support in a friendly and welcoming community setting rather than a traditional hospital environment. It offers support to anyone affected by cancer –including patients, carers, family, friends, employers, and staff working with those affected by cancer. This includes people who may be worried about cancer, waiting for or having tests, those who have recently been diagnosed, are living with cancer, receiving treatment including palliative or end-of-life care, cancer survivors and those who have finished treatment, as well as those dealing with the loss of someone to cancer.
Andrea Murphy, Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service Lead at Sherwood Forest Hospitals, said: “We are excited that the people of Newark and surrounding areas can access support on their doorstep. The journey from Newark to our
King’s Mill Macmillan Centre can feel overwhelming for people affected by cancer, especially if they feel unwell or are fed up with attending hospital appointments. The YMCA is a welcoming space where several organisations will come together under one roof to support people. We hope that it will encourage individuals to access the support they need and that it will be of great benefit to the local community.”
The service is currently recruiting ambassadors who are interested in the centre and its activities. Ambassadors will help share information within their communities and contribute to the development of the new service. Anyone who is interested, should email sfh-tr.cancer.info@nhs.net to sign up to receive a regular newsletter.
You can contact the service via 01636 681681 ext 5936 or on 07553 726425, or email sfh-tr.cancer.info@nhs.net.
Alternatively, you can call the Macmillan Support Line 7 days a week, 8am to 8pm on

Bereavement can leave people feeling sad, lost, and sometimes confused, but an appropriate funeral and memorial can bring great comfort and peace. At the Willows Natural Burial Ground, the tranquil surroundings of wildflower meadows, woodland, and ponds can provide great solace for those left behind as they remember the person or people they have lost.
The Willows is a 10-acre family-owned natural burial site near South Croxton, with commanding views of the Charnwood countryside, where people can be buried in hand dug graves in eco-friendly coffins or caskets, made of biodegradable materials such as cardboard, willow, wool or banana leaf to name a few. Conversely, their ashes can be buried or subsurface scattered, either in bio-degradable urns or simply poured into or onto the ground.
A range of commemorative memorials are available, made of natural materials such as Welsh slate, and wood, while many people choose to remember their loved ones by planting a tree or native rose bush.
Owners Chris and Jenny Scroby and their family, have been transforming the bare fields with extensive tree and bulb planting since opening in 2011, inviting families of the
buried or pre-purchased plots, to join in at planting weekends. They recently purchased another 3,750 native British bluebell, snowdrop and daffodil bulbs, whilst simultaneously raising money for local charities.
The Willows caters for people of all faiths or no faith. The site can accommodate graveside funerals or act solely as a burial site after a service elsewhere. If families do have a service on site, their fee includes provision of a small pop-up shelter, with limited seating and soft drinks for those attending.
The natural burial option is a cost-effective alternative to a traditional cemetery burial or cremation. Chris and Jenny work with the family’s chosen funeral directors to ensure everything goes smoothly, whilst respecting the parameters set out to protect and promote the site as a natural, wildlife friendly environment.
Chris says: “We’re very pleased with our progress, which we see as our contribution in giving something back to nature and the environment.”
