A message from City Council Leader, Councillor Neghat Khan Over the past year, we’ve delivered real improvements “across Nottingham City Council, focused on faster, more responsive services for residents.

We’ve strengthened Customer Services, made it easier to get in touch, invested in cleaner neighbourhoods, and improved support for those who need it most. Our priority is simple: a council that works better for everyone.

Nottingham remains a city full of energy and ambition. Regeneration is gathering pace, new opportunities for local businesses are emerging, and we’re continuing to invest in housing, skills, and sustainability. In June, the Regulator of Social Housing upgraded our rating from C3 to C2, a clear recognition of the progress we’ve made and our commitment to improving housing services. Together, these efforts are building a stronger, greener, more inclusive city.

More funding for frontline services that matter most to you We’re investing an extra £7.6 million in services that make a real difference to residents and communities right across the city.

The funding will support a wide range of initiatives designed to improve everyday life across Nottingham, from cleaner streets and free swimming sessions for young people to support for families, local businesses and job opportunities.

The investment builds on the council’s improving financial position and forms part of its commitment to delivering for Nottingham people, tackling inequality, and helping communities thrive.

School-holiday swimming sessions During each school holiday, until June 2027, with a budget of £243,000 we’re offering 22,000 free public swimming spaces for under-16-year-olds*, at all six Active Nottingham Leisure Centres.

More children and young people can access swimming, helping reduce physical activity inequalities and improving their health, wellbeing and confidence. Support for non-swimmers or those lacking confidence will be available. * Nottingham city children under 16 years. Children under 8 must be accompanied by a responsible adult/ person over 16 years, who can attend for free.

FUNDING BOOST for Nottingham’s Imagination Library

More opportunities for Nottingham’s young people

Nottingham’s Imagination Library has received £150,000 of additional funding, which will enable a further 5,700 children to start the scheme, so we can continue to inspire a love of reading in our youngest residents.

We’re making a major investment in youth services by funding 40 new Youth and Development Workers and expanding access to activities including sport, arts, music, and leadership programmes.

hen you need it most School uniform support scheme Earlier this year, schools were invited to register their interest in joining our new citywide school uniform support programme, helping families with the cost of school life while strengthening inclusion and sustainability.

Partnering with Cress, an online pre-loved uniform shop, we will fund any participating schools’ online access to the platform, which provides an easy-to-use portal for collecting, managing, and redistributing pre‑loved school uniforms to families.

Residents will also be able to donate any outgrown items to their local school.

The scheme is designed to be universal and inclusive, ensuring all families can benefit.

For those eligible for Pupil Premium, additional ‘free code’ access will ensure that cost is not a barrier.

Parks FOR PEOPLE

We’ve secured £3 million of Section 106 funding to reinvest into parks and greenspaces across the city making them, cleaner, safer and more welcoming places for everyone to enjoy.

Initiatives include: resurfaced paths refurbished and brand new play areas installing new bins and benches creating new and improved greenspace areas across the city

Green Flag We’re committed to increasing our Green Flag-accredited parks to 29 by 2029.

After years of low-level road maintenance funding from previous central governments, we’re pleased to have secured £8 million to spend improving our streets and roads this financial year.

This is a 40% increase from last year – and we’re getting on with making real improvements to our road surfaces, and footpaths.

With this money, we’ll be able to improve the city’s streets, including, the full length of Abbey Street and Abbey Bridge, Nuthall Road, Middleton Boulevard, Edwards Lane, Bramcote Lane and Western Boulevard and more to come!

NEW WATERSIDE BRIDGE OPENS First new bridge over the River Trent in nearly 70 years

Early June saw the opening of our new Transforming Cities - funded walking and cycling bridge over the River Trent, between Trent Basin and Lady Bay. This huge project involved dozens of partners and years of planning – an incredible success story for our city.

Residents had their say on proposals for a new Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) for Nottingham city centre. The proposals aim to address behaviours that can negatively impact people living, working and visiting the city. Following feedback during the consultation, we will now be consulting on people wearing face coverings.

Renters’ Rights Act This new law was introduced on 1 May 2026 to improve security and standards in the private rented sector.

The Renters’ Rights Act 2025 aims to create a fairer system for both tenants and landlords with key updates including: the removal of Section 21 ‘no-fault’ evictions changes to how and when rents can be increased greater clarity around tenants’ rights, including requests to keep pets new rules to reduce unfair bidding practices

You can alert local outreach teams through StreetLink, which helps connect people with accommodation, healthcare and support services. Nottingham City Council also works with partners, including Framework and local charities, to support people off the streets and into longer-term help.

Helping city residents save on energy bills We’ve secured £7.4 million from the government’s Warm Homes: Local Grant (WHLG), which will support low-income homeowners and private renters to upgrade their homes with a range of free energy-efficiency measures including: Insulation solar panels double-glazed doors and windows air source heat pumps Over the next two and a half years, we aim to support the residents of more than 420 homes who are at risk of, or in fuel poverty by reducing energy bills and improving comfort and wellbeing.

Next chapter in city’s district heating success story Nottingham’s district heating network has been providing reliable heat and hot water to homes and businesses since the 1970s. Today, it supplies around 5,000 customers across the city using heat generated from Nottingham’s energy-from-waste facility.

The council is now planning the next chapter of the network’s success, exploring opportunities to expand and modernise the system so it can continue delivering affordable, sustainable heat for years to come.

MAJOR MILESTONE FOR BROAD MARSH The ongoing redevelopment of the Broad Marsh site is central to our long-term vision for the city. Demolition will progress in phases and will complement the significant investment already made. Further developments will include approximately 1,000 homes, around 2,000 jobs and new green areas and public spaces.

PRIDE IN PLACE INVESTING IN OUR COMMUNITIES

Pride in Place is a major investment programme that is improving neighbourhoods and strengthening communities across Nottingham.

Projects are already underway in three areas: Broxtowe and Cinderhill, St Ann’s East and Clifton.

CLIFTON THE GOVERNMENT HAS APPROVED A FOUR-YEAR, £8 MILLION INVESTMENT PLAN FOR CLIFTON, WHICH WILL DELIVER: More activities and opportunities for young people Improvements to parks and open spaces Plans to enhance the market and high street

BROXTOWE AND CINDERHILL AND ST ANN’S EAST IN BROXTOWE, CINDERHILL AND ST ANN’S EAST, LOCAL PEOPLE ARE HELPING TO SHAPE LONG-TERM INVESTMENT PLANS. These will be submitted to the government later this year, with funding expected to begin from 2027/28 if approved.

SHERWOOD LIBRARY REOPENS! Sherwood Library has officially reopened following a major redevelopment, bringing a much-loved community space back to the heart of the neighbourhood.

The bright, modern library features: a dedicated children’s area public computers study spaces free Wi-Fi and a programme of activities for residents of all ages The reopening was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, family activities and special events, welcoming residents back through the doors after a longawaited return.

Local Government Reorganisation: what it means for you Residents, businesses and organisations have shared their views on proposals to reshape councils across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. This government-led process, known as Local Government Reorganisation (LGR), aims to simplify how services are delivered in the future.
