Believe it or not we graduated from NDP (or NDM as we knew it) 65 years ago. That means it’s time to celebrate. A few of our classmates, whose correct email addresses I could find, had lunch together on January 31 st to do some tentative planning. We decided to have the reunion on what is known as Foundation Day and Gateway Reunion Weekend. That weekend gives us more options in terms of activities as the there are several things to attend along with our own class activities. Details will follow! Hope to see you at one or all activities.

This was a banner year for Class of ’57 because we all turned 80! Most of us celebrated quietly but Dolores Hergenroeder Pomles had two fantastic parties. Family including siblings, in-laws and grandchildren treated her to dinner and dancing at the swanky Prime Rib in Baltimore. Friends surprised her with a party at Grand Cru in Belvedere Square. When she is not out partying Dolores plays bridge, is in several book clubs, and keeps up with the activities of her grandchildren. Two are starting college in the fall. Carsyn Belanger will attend the University of South Carolina and Lucy Pomles is headed to St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
Dolores, Nancy Menton Webster, Janice Thompson and Kathleen Schimunek Karpers attended Notre Dame’s annual Liturgy Mass and Brunch on October 18, 2019. This is the third year our classmates have attended this lovely event. NDP invites all alumnae who have graduated 50 years or more as guests of NDP. Hopefully, more of us will attend in 2020. It is fun to see not only our own classmates but also alumnae who have attended NDP in classes above and below us.
Sadly, two of our classmates passed away this year. Roseanne Kohler Foohey died on June 19, 2019. Addie Kadan Turk and Libby Silcott Lewandowski attended her service at St. Joseph Catholic Community in Eldersburg on June 25. Roseanne is survived by her children Coleen Lambdin, Mark and Brad Foohey, her sister Sally English and her five grandchildren. Her husband Bill Foohey died in 1988.
Agnes Buhman Lafferty died on September 4, 2019. A Memorial Mass was celebrated on September 21, 2019 at the NDP Chapel. Classmates Carol Flynn, Barbara McNamara Ismail and Dolores Hergenroeder Pomles attended the memorial and reception. Also in attendance was Sister Patricia Flynn, SSND. Agnes is survived by her three children, Kathleen Lee, Jennifer O’Connor, and Mark Lafferty and five grandchildren. Agnes was the wife of the late Dan Lafferty.
Janice Thompson’s sister Carol Ann Yilmaz passed away on June 4, 2019.
Our prayers and sympathy to all.
Stay well. Please email me or call with any news for

News from friends near and far: Pat Chaney Savage enjoyed a “good” trip to London in January, including visits to Covent Garden, National Portrait Museum, Stonehenge, and the Pump Room at Bath for tea. She hears from Carol Anne Kidd Palmer, who has moved to South Carolina, near Charleston. Pud Lynch lives in Shepherdstown, WV, and shared; “I take advantage of opportunities for learning, volunteer work, and being outside. I am a member of two book clubs, two film societies, a weekly discussion group, and a prayer group. Besides walking all over town, I hike the close-by C&O Canal Towpath...much enjoy connecting with classmates via e-mail.” After years of arranging gatherings for our class at interesting venues, now Pud could win a prize for corresponding with the most classmates. Must be especially interesting exchanging stories with Stephanie Sodaro Esworthy; these two have remarkable memories! Pud adds,” Stephanie is one terrific writer. I can thoroughly understand why William Donald Schaefer had her as his speech writer.” Another writer, Rina Torrieri Nastopka lives in Southern California and is finishing up book number three. Wow! Rina, please keep us posted! As we gather this news, Carole Artigiani and her husband Bob are on a month-long trip, revisiting Africa, and friends there. Global Kids Inc., the non-profit organization which Carole founded in 1989, celebrated its thirty-year anniversary last year! GK educates and inspires pupils from underserved communi ties; It operates schools and programs in NY, and DC, reaching 14,000 students yearly, all over the world. Carole is retired, but continues to serve on the GK Board as President Emerita. She has received the “Spirit of Anne Frank” service award, the “Sarah Lawrence Distinguished Alumna for Achievement” Award, and the “Service to Society Award” from Notre Dame University

of Maryland. Congratulations, Carole, for having the courage to go forth with this idea many years ago, and for this magnificent life-changing gift you have given to thousands of young students! Happy news from: Phyllis Minakowski Simeroth, Woodland, CA, “My son Brian got married in November. His first wife, Marianne, died way too young, several years ago, from brain cancer. My new daughter-in-law, Stephanie, is mom to three boys. Brian has two girls, my granddaughters, Emma and Melissa, grades 8 and 7. This raises my count to 5!” Kas O’Hara Riley writes: “We are all well here in Texas. I keep in touch regularly with Mary Lee Gibson Losby, who lives in Minnesota and is doing well. “Pat Innes Muth continues as the Head Professional at the Columbia Figure Skating Club. She is an instructor and the Artistic Director of the Ice Shows which the Skating Club presents twice a year. Bonnie Leonard Nauman has moved to Mercy Ridge and “loves it.”
Sadly, in the past year, we lost two dear classmates, Margaret Kenny Hougart, in April 2019. Margaret gave her life of service to her nursing career, and devotion to her two daughters, Marissa and Anna. Theo
Mallek Korpovich, Betty Schwing Frech,
Lynn Scally Rose, and Charlotte Carozza Archer attended Margaret’s services, and happily shared stories with Marg’s delightful girls, sister Kathy, two granddaughters and family. In October, we were shocked to hear of the passing of our beloved classmate, Mary Burch Tracy Ford. After NDP, Burch attended Trinity College, where she was elected class president, again! While serving in the Peace Corps in West Africa, she met her future husband Brian Ford. Burch finished at Boston University (magna cum laude) while working at Peter Brent Brigham Hospital. In 1993, she was appointed Head of Miss Porter’s School in Farmington, CT. Her 15-year tenure there was marked by many accomplishments. The new library is now the Burch Tracy Ford Library. IS OUR CLASS IMPRESSIVE OR WHAT! Tilly McCardell Young informed us on January 28 th that Carol Mann was an
answer in the New York Times crossword puzzle that day, and not because she was our Gym Meet captain! Please stay in touch. If you are receiving this publication, but no e-mails, please let me know. God’s blessings, and Hugs to ALL.

Twenty-six members of the Class of ’59 attended our 60 th reunion at NDP on October 18 th . Our classmates came from California, Texas, New Jersey, Delaware, Virginia and Maryland.
As we entered the reception area, we were greeted by members of the reunion committee with black and blue (class colors) crocheted pins made by Carolyn Farrell.
Attending were: Anne Hoy Blair, Frannie
Quinn Brooks, Peggy Bradley, Carole Snyder Brudin, Anne Klug Coyle, Mary Corrigan D’Ambrogi, Anne Marie McGloin Doody, Jeanette Falbo, Carolyn Crosby Farrell, Barbara Cully Frost, Sue Goodman, Judy Taylor Haupt, Peggy Coppinger Jay, Joanna Bianca Krieger, Pat Mattson, Carol Faulstich Millay, Paula Rosch Newton, Rosie Knott Porter, Rosie Giordano Profili, Claire Lange Rankin, Kathleen Roach, Nell Gutridge Singleton, Carol Taylor, Margee Eichelberger Tinker, Marguerite Walsh,
and Elizabeth Jasper Weaver.
All of us celebrated the presentation of the Mother Caroline Friess award to Kathy Roach. She serves the impoverished, the homeless, and those in need of healthcare in DC, Virginia, Indiana and her beloved Guatemala. She has done this for over 40 years. (Editor’s Note: More on Kathy and her amazing work at the end of this magazine) On Saturday of our reunion weekend, Rosie Giordano Profili and her husband Butch welcomed us for lunch. Rosie and Butch’s incredible home was built by Butch. The woodwork throughout the house, timbers and all, was done without nails. The tongue and groove woodwork style prevailed. It is situated in a beautiful setting on Profili Mountain in Fallston. The buffet lunch was splendid – appetizers, salads, shrimp, pasta and desserts galore – were served on the porch overlooking the hillside, creeks and a stone bridge. We had copies of our year books, pictures from the 50’s, and our Gym Meet songs! Most of the conversations were of our blue and white memories!

As if you didn’t know, the Class of ’60 is celebrating our 60 th reunion this year. The next issue of Class Chatter will include some highlights.
Every class rep would die for such news, so how lucky are we to have Pat Montley among our ranks! Her latest accomplish ment, winning a national contest sponsored by the American Association of Community Theater. Her play Shattering had its pre miere production in Tacoma, WA in January when Pat and Sally were flown out to the West Coast (also a part of the prize) for its opening. Taking advantage of already being on the West Coast, Pat decided to “drop in” on Joan L’Heureux (our former Sr. Paul Mary), in Palo Alto, CA. Pat also extends her thanks to classmates who attended her play, Plays on Principles in the spring. Those true blue comrades were Puddy Boyle, Peggy Plunkett, Carolyn Finnerty and myself. We had a great time. For those who missed it, DVDs are available.
Joanna Baird is holding steady with 29 grandchildren, but she may have some competition. I have recently learned that Erin Mulligan has 16 grandchildren, eight boys, eight girls, three out of college, one in the Army on down to two still in elementary school. (Erin will really only be in competi tion with Donna Fitzpatrick who can also boast of 16!)
I think “relocations” could become a regular topic for our class notes. Sharon Dopman has set up a permanent address in Vero Beach, FL. Donna Fitzpatrick and Bill have made Naples, FL, their year-round locale. Carolyn McLean has successfully transi tioned to Oak Crest (a CCRC in Baltimore) and may be secretly recruiting other Class of ’60 members to join her. M.K. Hense has also recently moved to a similar community
in Utah. She will have a more difficult task encouraging us to move to Utah, but M.K., give it your best. (Having traveled exten sively in Utah last year, I can vouch for it as being one beautiful and amazing state.) Marg Lyon has downsized, moving from Rodgers Forge to Charles Gate Apartments in Towson where interestingly enough there is a large congregation of SSNDs. I’m betting others are evaluating moves. Please let me know.
Travel notes…. We learned from Marcy Peters at our 4 th Annual Marcy Peters Luncheon in July that she took a very adventurous trip to the Galapagos with her grandson last sum mer. BTW, Jane was able to come to Marcy’s luncheon. It was one of her first jaunts since her illness, and we were very excited to have her there. Carolyn McLean, always energetic and hearty, shortly after her move to Oak Crest, hiked the last part of the French Camino, starting in Sarria, Spain, ending up 74 miles later in Santiago de Compostela—carrying only her walking stick and back-pack. She earned a Camino certificate, loved the journey, and would do it again. Speaking for myself, I’m impressed. Laurie Kunkel and Joan Machen celebrated their daughters’ 50 th birthdays with a cruise on the Rhine for Laurie and Mimi while Joan, Karen and the whole family spent two wonderful weeks in Ireland.
In further Conde Nast news, Pat Montley “did” the Grand Canyon last summer including Four Corners and Mesa Verde. Pat Scally, Earl and son, Chris and family traveled to Costa Rica in July to celebrate Chris’ 50 th birthday. Carolyn Finnerty, our inveterate traveler has been to Mexico, Alaska, and California since last report. How does she do it? …I know there’s more of you out there in the class of ’60 cloud, cruising, etc. Don’t be shy. Let me know.
You all already know about the loss of several husbands and classmate illnesses throughout the past year. It is very touch ing and generous that so many of you have offered prayers and support. Some of us are close-by, some, farther away, but regardless of geography, you have continued to be a faithful and loyal group of women. How grateful can we be to have such friends!

The Class of ’64 is hard at work traveling, babysitting their grands, taking courses, staying healthy, and volunteering. We’ve had three gatherings during the last year: a summer luncheon at Deidre Knox Wilson’s hotel/restaurant in Kent Island, the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club; a holiday brunch at Pappas’s; and a table of seven at the NDP Alumnae Bingo:
(l-r, bottom row): Sharon Maciolek Byerly, Maureen Murphy McCart, Michele Blair Jackson, Pat Smith Woods, Lois Maule Welsh, Nancy Phillips Garrett, Ann Callanan Kneavel. (top row) Eleanor Joyce Huber, Mary Mitchell Coryell, Ann Parker Elliott, Kris DiPaolo Kelly, Valerie Pearce Herwig, Jane Slear Gesker, Deidre Knox Wilson, Mary Ellen Flanigan Nordhoff, (Helen) Curtis Wilkinson Versace, and Sallie Mullen.

In memoriam: Sad to report that we’ve lost four members of our class to cancer this past year: Anne MacKay Lawton, Franne Reilly Nale, Marge Voith, and Dee Thommen Van Nest. On a happier note, thanks to all who contributed to the Limitless Campaign in the name of members of ’64 who have died.
I had lunch recently with Shannie McCaffray Moorman, who lives in North Potomac, just outside of D.C. She has retired from nursing and is enjoying retirement. Shannie has three sons. Barbara Ryland Wells checked in with an update. She lives in a small town in the
(l-r front row) Pat O’Connor Celeste, Lois Welsh, Nancy Meehan Stude, Barbara Umerley Daly, Nancy Garrett, Mary Agnes Mendelis Twomey; (middle row) Ann Kneavel (behind Lois), Pat Woods, Janie Kammer Powers, Sharon Byerly, Mary Ruth Galvin Logan, Betty Dippold Leadley, Eleanor Huber; (back row) Mary Coryell, Ellie Nordhoff, Ellen Hanley Herwig, Sallie Mullen, Peggy Ross Duer, Kriss Kelly, Jane Strausbaugh

(l-r) Ann Kneavel, Maureen McCart, Carmel Carrozza Miller (’62), Jane Strausbaugh, Lois Welsh, Sallie Mullen, Pat Celeste
Last year, Jane won the 50-50 raffle; this year, Lois won. She also won a few years ago. ’64 is on a roll!!

Upper Peninsula of Michigan called Chassell. Her husband passed away several years ago, and since then she has opened a B&B (hamarhousebnb.com). Many of her guests are parents of Michigan State students.
Big news in my life: I’ve met a wonderful man named Peter Cole, and he and I are now a couple. He is a retired lawyer from
Sallie Mullen and Peter Cole

England, lives in Italy (!!), is smart and clever and makes me laugh uncontrollably, and we are building a house together in Umbria (between Florence and Rome). I’ll be living there with him for most of the year; we’ll travel a bit and spend 2-3 months/year in Baltimore. I’m incredibly grateful to have him in my life!

Lots of news to report this time so let’s get at it. Linda Coniff Pugh retired again from her 50 year nursing career at the end of June, 2019. Her latest position was Interim Director of the School of Nursing at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. She still lives in York, PA, but her son Matthew lives in Wilmington, hence the connection. Linda and husband Wade are celebrating their 50 th wedding anniversary on a cruise with their family, including Matthew, and son John and his wife Missy who live in Golden, CO. Linda’s plans include more bridge, and taking good dog Charley to his job as ther apist in community hospitals and nursing homes. Paula Schmidt has transitioned from play to forest therapist in the new year. In the tradition of Japanese forest bathing, she will host small group experiences in her forest yurt as ways to relax in these exciting and sometimes over stimulating times. She has been taking lessons on the hammer dulcimer and keeping a daily gratefulness journal . Her advice: create, enjoy, and Be Here Now! Stephanie J. “Cindy” Harris continues to work in Ocean City, MD, for NOAA and the MD Department of Resources interviewing recreational anglers while trying to save our ocean’s resources. Per Cindy, “Sounds daunting but is really a lot of protocols, numbers, processes, and some things I don’t even understand. But, I am outdoors and riding boats and earning a living for my efforts. I am pretty bionic since, over the years, I got a new heart valve, a new hip, and a brand new reamed-out carotid artery. Still married to my husband of 10 years, and still kicking arse at 72. God bless and love you all! XO.” Three cheers for Cindy Harris! Mary Kay McCollum Riedy checked in from her new home in CA. She and her husband Jim moved across the country last year from their beach town in Wilmington, NC, to Santa Rosa, CA, to be close to granddaughter Anais, age 4, and to share in her life. Her contact information is 1350 Yulupa Ave., Unit M, Santa Rosa, CA, 95405. Marykayriedy@yahoo.com, 910-330-1144. Phyllis Kaltenbach Von Stade and husband John are still travelling and enjoying life in Lutherville. Her 4-year old grandson and 18-month old granddaughter live nearby and she sees them often. Younger daughter Olivia continues to live and work in NYC. Geraldine Smyth Abbott is proud to announce the birth of her second grandchild, Keira Grace, born in October. The real news, according to Gerry is, “That her mother is thinking of giving her back if she doesn’t sleep through the night soon.” Here’s hoping that by the time this is published, mother, dad, and baby are less sleep deprived and KG’s place in the family is secured. Lots of travel going on: Monica Fallon O’Keefe and husband John set off for France and Spain in January, where highlights were to be a visit to the Leonardo DaVinci exhibit at the Louvre and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain. They had a good Christmas with all three adult children coming to Baltimore to celebrate with Monica’s brothers and sisters, their children, and her 101 year old mom. Mrs. Fallon still lives in the same house Monica and her sibs grew up in on Gittings Avenue. Anna Maria Ostrom (AMO) Storey and husband Mike are planning a cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest in April (50 th anniversary celebration), and may visit Ireland for the 5 th time in July. They spent the holidays in Brooklyn/NYC with their son and many other family members including 9 Storeys and 3 Sandqvist, AMO’s cousins from Sweden. AMO and Mike are in good health and busy with family and volunteer activities at home in Sacramento, CA. Marian Lipinski began 2019 with a trip to Israel and Jordan where she toured Old and New Testament sites within Israel. In Jordan her group saw Roman ruins in Amman and the restored village of Petra in the south. She traveled with her Biblical Studies class, part of Towson U. Osher Institute. Ann Conneen Klaes and husband DJ started 2020 off with a trip to Australia and New Zealand Deborah Bender and spouse spent Thanksgiving, 2019, with son Daniel and family. Daniel is currently assigned to the Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point, NC. They were joined by daughter Kristen and her family. They have 4 young grand daughters! Deborah also traveled to Santa Fe, NM, in July to volunteer as an interpreter at the International Folk Art Festival, where, she says, she would have liked to have made a purchase at each textile booth. In other news, Nancy Nugent Bowers and Anne Peter Hahn both checked in with no news but wished to say hello to everyone. Finally, sending love to Mary Catherine Day who lost her sister, Winifred Day Woodbury, Class of ‘62, on November 2, 2019. May she rest in peace. As this was going to press we learned of the death of our dear classmate, Sharyn France Bolinger, on February 15, 2020. And maybe you can quote what I said about her being my partner in crime in Gateway, writing the column, etc.

Hi, girls. Happy spring! Robin Gould Scherer starts us off for our Class Chatter—“Thank you for such a fabulous 50 th Reunion! It was so special seeing everyone! My email is maryrobin.scherer@gmail.com. I retired on July 1, 2019, so now I have the time to check this email account. While I was teaching I rarely had a chance to check it! We just returned (November, 2019) from our son’s wedding in Italy. It was a magical wedding and wonderful adventure for our family! Love and many blessings to all.” Trish Toti Kolker says, “Hi all! I’m so sorry I didn’t make it to what looked like a great time! It was really fun to go through the pictures and see how many of you I could recognize! Maybe I will try to make it to the East Coast for the February get together. Thinking of you all, Trish.” Marie Ann Leyko shares that she and “her brother (a Calvert Hall Grad and older than I) finished the Princess Anne metric of the Seagull Century—a full 65 miles of biking (plus a few extra miles for fun) on Maryland’s eastern shore! The ride was beautiful and fun to be with family the whole weekend. While it was a lot of work

preparing for the Century (about 7 months riding locally 3x a week) it was definitely worth it. Will be signing up for it again in 2020 but before that am looking forward to a spring bike ride with Deborah Godwin Major and Karen Knoop Vulgaris. Sheila Carpenter has “two new babies, Daisy and Fergie, who joined us after my 28 year old parrot died and we couldn’t stand the quiet. We now have 5 parrots which officially qualifies me as a crazy parrot lady.” More news from Sheila “our daughter, Diana, age 29, took up powerlifting a few years ago. She holds three Virginia state records in her age class and recently won another meet by lifting a total over 900 lbs in the course of three lifts.” WOW!!! Mary Pat Baxter “has moved into a new (old) house remodeling project which is my new job now that I am sort of retired—still doing a few work projects but mostly from home and on my schedule! Hope everyone is well and happy 2020. I have a new email address Marypatbaxter1@gmail.com.” Carol Cimbolo-Dryer notes that “This is a big year for us. The big 70!” Judy Nelson Connelly is thrilled to share that “my son Patrick and his wife Jenny has a baby girl Lola Rose yesterday February 4 in San Francisco. As you can imagine we are all very excited.” My happy news is that Lauren, my older daughter and NDP alum celebrated her wedding in October, 2019, She was a beautifully radiant bride and it was so much fun to have our family and her new family join in all the festivities from far and wide. Love to all and may 2020 keep us happy, healthy with a sprinkle of fun and frolic along the way. Keep your news coming and enjoy the new year!

Hello NDP Class of ’70!
Reconnecting with NDP alumnae is one of my simple pleasures in life. I love catching up with everyone! Sometimes, we have condolences to express and sometimes congratulations are in order. Our deepest sympathy and prayers go out to Nancy Manner and her family, who lost her brother, who is her youngest sibling in February to ALS. A huge congratulations to Nancy Dougherty Poole Whitely on her marriage to Mitch! The smiles say it all!
I recently reconnected with Denise Lupo Lutz through email. Denise and her husband lived in Ocean Pines for six years and moved back to White Marsh in November 2014. After a 42-year career as a pharmacist, Denise retired at the end of
1970

1970

November 2018. Good for her! Denise and her husband, Bob, live in White Marsh on Bird River. They have a deck boat that they enjoy taking out on the Gunpowder River and into the Bay. They just returned from a trip across Canada on the Via Rail Canadian, from Toronto to Vancouver, with a three-day stop in Jasper National Park. Denise shares that Canada is a beautiful country, and the people are so friendly! Definitely worth a visit! Denise is loving the freedom of retire ment and started taking classes with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute affiliated with Towson University and finds the programs intellectually stimulating.
Mary Anne Novotny Leitch and her husband, Scott, are both enjoying retirement. Mary Anne retired after 20 years with a large healthcare organization in Northern Virginia, working in Human Resources and Marketing. She is no longer coaching, but is still rowing, weather permitting. Mary Anne is on “gamma-sitting” standby for her four grandchildren—two in DC, two in Pittsburgh. She has one granddaughter and three grandsons. Mary Anne shared with me that after raising two daughters, spending time with all three boys is a hoot! The Leitch’s are enjoying traveling on both cruises and road trips. Life is good! After missing the last few reunions, she is looking forward to our 50 th . I’m looking forward to our 50 th !
Rosemary Fallon retired from her Smithsonian job of 30 years and has been pursuing her own art/photography (rosemaryfallonart.com). She has been exhibiting her work mostly in the DC metro area. Her daughter is engaged and planning a wedding for Fall 2020 in upstate NY. Rosemary—Enjoy the wedding planning! After visiting with her mother who is 100 years old, Rosemary periodically stops by Wells Liquors and catches up with owner, Joann Ariosa Hyatt. Rosemary also catches up with Mimi Tolson MacLaughlin for lunch. Rosemary, I hope you will share wedding pictures in our NDP Class of ’70 group on Facebook and give us an update on Mimi.
When I reached out to Mary McFadden Molinaro, Mary wrote back she is doing well. She is the mother of four, and grandmother of four. This year, Mary’s company Software Basics, Inc., located in Reisterstown is celebrating its 30 th year in business. Software Basics, Inc. teaches people how to use very specific software. Most of Mary’s clients are law firms. For 15 years after college, and before starting her company, Mary taught math in Baltimore County and Baltimore City schools, as well as Towson University. Mary started her company when her youngest was two years old. She is very proud of it, as she should be. She is also grateful that the company was up and running successfully and doing very well, when her husband, Joe, died suddenly in 2003. Mary says it was good to be busy when life threw her a big curve like this. Mary, we are truly very sorry for your loss and wishing you all that is good. Last year she went to Italy with her friends from Reisterstown. By coincidence, the trip was out of Harford Community College, where I was working at the time. I know some of my colleagues at HCC were on the trip with Mary.
Celie Neville was in Honduras last spring with Towson Presbyterian Church. Celie’s group provided medical and dental care and completed community projects, such as building eco stow while working with women and children in the villages of Copan. The people in the villages were so very appreciative for anything that Celie and her group did—Language was never a barrier to feel their gratitude, which was overwhelming.
This year, I was very excited to reconnect with Joan Zelubowksi Blemly and Katherine Reeve Miller. Joan and her husband, Craig, retired in 2019. Joan taught for 35 years as a special educator and math resource teacher. Craig retired from the federal government. They are enjoying life in Annapolis and Ocean City and traveling to many places including trips to see their sons in Tucson and Austin. The Blemlys live on the water in Annapolis and in Ocean City and enjoy boating and playing tennis. Joan is excited about reconnecting with everyone at all of the 50-year reunion festivities! Kate and her husband, John, are celebrating 43 years of marriage. They have lived in Maine
since 1989 with their three children (twin daughters, and a son Peter). All kids are married! Her daughter Kay and husband, Daniel, live in Melbourne, Australia, and have a beautiful baby girl, Isla Grace. Kate has been to Australia three times and will venture back to the outback again in July for three weeks! Kate, check your yearbook. Australia was on my bucket list, way back when! Kate plays tennis and hopes to meet up with her tennis buddies and play on clay courts not far from where the Australian Open takes place! Her daughter Mary lives in Boulder, CO, with husband Patrick. She just gave birth to Henry! Their son, Peter and his wife Dani live in Portland, Maine. Kate also enjoys acting and just finished doing Tennessee William’s play, “The Glass Menagerie” in Boston. She is also a “guest teacher” at her area public elementary school. “New England has become our home, sailing and hiking in the summer and snow shoeing, skiing and indoor tennis help us enjoy the long winters!”
Patti Maguire Heagy amazes me! She is still going strong at work where she is extremely grateful to have Karen Buckley Cronin working by her side. She enjoys her eight grandchildren, (four boys and four girls, from seven months to six years). Patti and her husband, Jim, spent New Year’s 2020 in Iceland. They were hoping to see the Northern Lights and fireworks, but only got fireworks. If anyone has an interest in going to Iceland, Patti would be happy to give tips. “It is a ruggedly beautiful country.” Recently, Patti shared beautiful pictures of herself and friends skiing in Vail, CO. See why I am so amazed! Patti also keeps up with classmates, Susan Loker Rosen, Nancy
Dougherty Poole Whitely, Judy Taylor
Boyce and more on a regular basis.
The Class of ’70 is a group of uniquely talented and creative women. In addition to Rosemary Fallon, another standout artist comes to our attention, Nancy Dougherty Poole Whitely. Throughout her adult life, Nancy has graced many of Baltimore’s beautiful homes with her faux art on walls, ceilings and furniture. Nancy has now entered into a more personally creative phase of her artwork. If you are ever in Nancy’s company, you will immediately recognize her indomitable spirit and sheer joy for life. Her spirit and joy come through in all of her new work! This is the reason that her work sells extremely quickly. I am in the process of commissioning a painting from Nancy for our new house. Visit Nancy’s work at: nancydoughertyart.com and you will see for yourself!
Denise Rubin Gittings is enjoying retirement. Her son turns 40 this year, is married and lives close by with his wife, Jenny. Denise has two grandchildren, who are understand ably the lights of her and her husband’s lives. Denise and her husband have remained friends with Noreen Mellick Lidston and her husband, Bob, for all of these 50 years! Denise also sees Harriet Lowry Doherty, Joann Ariosa Hyatt, and Barbara Barry Conover on occasion. Denise tries to get together with Susan Donnelly when Susan is in town.
This Class Chatter comes to you from me in Ocean View, Delaware. Last March, Larry and I made the big downsizing move. We bought what I like to call a “condo on the ground” three miles west from the Totem Pole in Bethany Beach. I feel so blessed. I am loving the slower beach life and Larry is in golf heaven. I am hoping anyone visit ing Ocean City or the Delaware Beach area will give me a heads up at tmmitchell603@ gmail.com, and I will promise you, I will visit with you on the beach. Dreams do come true, if you work at it! I am enjoying sunrises on the beach with coffee in hand, taking afternoon walks on the beach with our dachshund, Clancy, or sitting and reading with the sound of waves in the background! I met with Robin Schmidt Higgins for lunch at the end of the summer. Robin is busy as the grandmother of triplets, who live in North Carolina, and serving on the board for the LPGA Amateur Golf Association Eastern Shore. Robin is passionate about both her grandchildren and golf!
In the late ‘60s we were a very special group of young ladies who were destined to succeed. Our Gym Meet theme “Only the Strong Survive” set the tone for our futures. This year is a very special milestone for us. We are the lucky ones! I am hoping that most of us will be together to celebrate our 50 th Class Reunion.
SAVE THE DATE: Notre Dame Prep will be sharing information about our 50 th Reunion Events through email and snail mail. Additionally, as I am typing this chatter, plans are in the works for a beach reunion in May or early June. Many of you have asked to help with the plans. I would love your help! Our first step is finding everyone. So please, if you have contact information for any classmates, please forward it to me, so I can check it against the Alumnae records. If you catch up with any classmates, please ask them if they received and read this Class Chatter in the new Roots & Wings magazine. Chances are if they have not, the NDP Alumnae Office does not have their current contact information. If you have not recently updated your information, please do so at notredameprep.com/alumnae/ welcome-ndp-alumnae and complete the entire form. With your help, I am hoping to find everyone on our class list. All should receive invitations in the mail and through email for both events from the Notre Dame Alumnae Office.
I would love to hear from you, and look forward to seeing you at one, if not all of our reunion events!

Sue Anecharico Haak writes: “In September, I started teaching at The Park School of Baltimore. I am a substitute teacher in the middle school. I love the energy of the mid dle schoolers and the creative and lively environment at Park. Last year, my husband, Lloyd, and I celebrated our 40 th wedding anniversary with a drive to the Finger Lakes, New York and Niagara Falls. If rain is a blessing, we got a barrelful under the Falls on the Maiden Mist. Speaking of blessings, we have five grandchildren who keep me inspired and delighted. I walk every year in the NDP Blazer Dash in support of the Amanda Eskridge ‘01 Memorial Scholarship. It is always a great day of exercise, seeing classmates, honoring those we have lost, and providing opportunities for future stu dents. Love and best to the Class of Wine and Rose!”

Well we were a small but mighty group at our 45 th reunion. Jane Rowley, Carol
Watkins Reid, Melissa Allen Moser, Margaret Case Gugerty, Janice Hunt Damon, Karen Kohlhepp Raubach, Mary Galvin O’Conor
Wilson and I all spent the evening catch ing up on each other’s families, lives and all things Notre Dame. For the rest of the class—you’ll just have to come to the 50 th to find out what’s going on with everyone! There was quite a bit of traveling going on with our class this year. Dottie Caldwell Lopez traveled to Africa in the fall with her family to see the end of the great migration. They watched thousands of wildebeest and zebras cross the border from Kenya into Tanzania. On safari they saw lions, leopards, elephants, and Cape buffalo. The most memorable experience was when they trekked the silverback mountain gorillas through the Bwindi Impenetrable forest in Uganda. They trekked nine miles total; maneuvering down a steep gorge, crossing streams with porters and rangers who cut paths through the jungle.
Mary Galvin O’Conor Wilson had a wonder ful week in Rome and the surrounding countryside last spring. She and her husband had a private tour guide who took them to the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Cathedral as well as the Colosseum, Forum and Palatine Hill.
My husband and I also went to Rome for 3-1/2 days this summer and then embarked on a Viking cruise to Florence, Tuscany, Monaco, Marseilles, Montpelier and Barcelona. We got to see many sights in each city and even took a cooking lesson in a castle in Tuscany. I saw on social media that Nancy Balthazar Lapanne and her husband took a very similar trip in December with a few additional cities. I’m sure her trip was just as wonderful as mine.
Katie O’Neill visited a small town in Germany where her father had been wounded in World War II. She had been corresponding with some of the locals who gave her a very warm reception.
Sue Ullsperger is still working and it sounds like she is on a very important project. She is working to purify all of the meningitis group anti-bodies so they become part of a test kit for patient samples. In her spare time, she loves doing water aerobics and taking long walks on the golf course with her dogs.
Katie Cinnamond Doyle had a busy 2019. Her daughter Kelly got married in Maine in May and her daughter Bailey got married in Spring Lake, NJ, in October. That was a lot of planning!
Karen Kohlhepp Raubach was excited to become a first-time grandmother when daughter Kristen gave birth to grandson Colton Teller in July. Mary Galvin O’Conor Wilson hosted a dinner so that Karen’s friends could meet Colton which we were all excited about. Sue Hill Gebhardt was happy to announce the birth of her second grandson Marshall King.
Class of ‘74 meets Karen Kohlhepp Raubach’s grandson Colton

The class of ’74 sends their condolences to the families of Ann Kelly Whaley and Mary Melissa Mayor.

Greetings, Ladies, I hope each of you cel ebrated your 60 th in a special way! Some news to share from classmates, both near and far:
Mary Carol Hart Tazewell: 2020 will bring major transitions for our family. We will finish up a 20-year career in the Foreign Service with USAID. We have lived 22 of the last 29 years overseas, currently in Malawi, and the time has come to re-establish home in the US. We will land in Norfolk, Virginia, in Lit’s family home. It’s on a beautiful creek with plentiful blue crabs in season. I am enrolled in a program at The Shalem Institute in Washington, DC, commencing in March 2020 focusing on transforming community. We are both incredibly grateful for making to 60! Lit and I celebrated our birthdays by hosting a party with friends in Malawi! Looking forward to reconnecting on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.
Katy Villa Chasney: Our family spent the Christmas Holidays in Spain to be with our daughter Meredith who has lived there for 5 years. It was delightful in Madrid and we also took a side trip to Cordoba! If anyone’s traveling to Madrid, please contact me as she knows the city well and can make great recommendations. Marianne Mainolfi and I made a special trip to San Juan in October with a bunch of our College of Notre Dame classmates to celebrate the big 6-0!
Nancy Karpinski: Hello gals! Well, I guess I should share some news with my ’77 Sisters now that I think about it. Cindy retired at the end of the year and we’ll be putting our house in Lusby, MD, up for sale in early spring. After that, we head to Southern California with no particular home and will probably rent for at least a year. Right now, Laguna Beach is the front runner. It needs to be a place within striking distance of Cindy’s parents, who live outside of LA in Palos Verdes. They don’t want to move from their home, but require more and more assistance, so it’s our turn to do that. When their circumstance changes, we’ll spend some time looking for a permanent residence wherever the wind blows us! Love you guys and looking forward to seeing you before we head out west.
Kathy Stanley Wilmot: We are still running our family-owned businesses– but working on succession planning so our sons will each take over one of the companies. Having fun but I want to be able to spend more time with our 4 grandchildren! I’m also working with NDP and their W.I.N. program by find ing opportunities for students to come out into the “real world” and intern or shadow with companies that may be involved in the career path they are interested in pursuing one day. What a great program! I’m also excited to watch the new wing being built for their S.T.E.A.M. studies. I don’t think there are any other schools out there offering the opportunities these girls are getting at NDP. The most important difference is that their classmates will always be there for them. They may not realize it now, but when they call each other “sisters,”—they have no idea how meaningful that becomes 40 years down the road!
Cindy Bauerman Foster: As we continue to pray for the health of my sister and mourn the loss of her husband, we are also proud that our oldest son Jameson has begun his master’s program at Peabody and he and his wife are living with us through the program. My youngest, Elliott, graduated from Syracuse and has decided to start his life in LA!
Jo-Anne DeVuono Miller: I have a new granddaughter, Haleigh Erin, born Nov 4. Enjoy spending time with her and trips to Boston to visit my other 2 1/2 year old granddaughter, Hannah.
Shirley Morales: Our son, Ian, recently turned 20 and is a sophomore at Emerson College majoring in film. Our daughter, Jordan, is writing and performing comedy in Los Angeles. My gallery just celebrated the opening of our 11th season. Last year, I curated exhibitions in Shanghai, New York and Antwerp. For my 60 th birthday, Jordan and I will travel to Guadalajara and Mexico City. Later in the year, hoping to open a possible popup in Baltimore/DC area or New Orleans!
Karen Brennan: My oldest daughter, Hannah, got married in December. They live in Tampa, Florida, but the wedding was up here. Bride and groom were picture perfect, and the day was wonderful. My younger daughter JoEllen is still with me; she works in mental health care. I still practice reflexol ogy, but also am working full-time right now as Director of Facilities at Oldfields School. I’m looking forward to retiring again (ha ha), and am exploring the potential of moving south. My daughters and I went to Colorado in June to see a concert at Red Rocks, and got some great exploring and hiking in around Colorado Springs, Boulder, Golden and Denver. Unfortunately, there was not time to connect with Lise and family, as we literally whirled through in a few days.
Carey Talucci: Celebrating 19 years of owning my catering business, Carey’s Fine Foods. I have 2 grandchildren; Declan, 3 years old, and Edie, 1 years old. Delighted that my daughter Downey and her family love close by so I get to spend time with them!
Carey Talucci and grandson Declan

Debbie Ford-Scriba: My husband Jim and I enjoyed a big travel year in celebration of our 60 th , culminating in a fall trip to India. I would describe the largest democracy in the world as colorful, complex, chaotic and deeply spiritual.
Debbie and Jim Scriba in India

Rose Schmitz Marcin: I have a new granddaughter, born September 2019. Bill and I spend lots of our time traveling coast to coast to see the grandchildren!
Karen Meekins Benckini: Life is good but busy in the Benckini household. Finally—our twins are freshmen in high school—yippee! Gigi is at NDP and Joey attends Loyola Blakefield. Todd participated in NDP’s

Todd Benckini in NDP Father’s Follies
Father’s Follies (notice the red wig to look like Gigi!) and I look forward to experiencing gym meet as a 2023 parent in March! I’m in my 8 th year of serving as Media Director at Clapp 360 Communications, which recent ly re-branded under new ownership and expanded services. To celebrate the kids’ graduation from middle school and my 60 th , our family took a fabulous summer trip to Spain and Italy. We stayed with friends in a beautiful seaside town called Gijon near Basque country, and we also traveled to Madrid, Florence and Rome. Definitely a vacation to cherish!
Condolences to: Joanna Roman Smith—the passing of her husband, Joe. Barbara Reahl Kasun—the death of her father. Kathleen Brooks Lauman—on her Mother’s death. Cindy Foster-loss of her brother-in-law, Jack. Rose Schmitz Marcin—death of her sister, Mary Emma. Josie Kelly—the passing of her sister, Nan.
Heartfelt wishes for a joy-filled 2020! Please stay in touch and try to attend some of our social events as they come about. We love staying connected and seeing each other!

Hey, there! Still on the Outer Banks of NC with my “Pretired” (not quite retired) husband and rescue dog, Augie. Son Tyler finished up junior year with a bang: Dean’s List first semester and a summer internship secured from last year’s catamaran adven ture at ServPro in his native NYC. He’s now beginning his final semester at Elon, and we have made our last tuition payment ever! Woot! I was captain of three USTA tennis teams since I last wrote, and I am currently captaining another for Spring. I’m also torturing myself on the golf course, attempting to improve my game! Last year was filled with wonderful travel experiences: New York a few times (some for work, some to work on the apartment), Ocean Reef in Florida a few times, a wedding in California (I stayed with Terre and Jamie Short) and a most memorable 25 th anniversary trip to Italy with Chris… I also was blessed with visits from Jackie DeSesa Colt (’82) and Terre Jones Short since I last wrote. Big real estate news was the sale of our beloved NYC apartment after 22 years in November, followed by the purchase of our Southern Shores rental in December. We are official Outer Banks residents now! And I’d like to give a shout-out to all the nurses in our class!! Especially Lisa Doleschal Schachtner, whose determination and professionalism were instrumental in my dad’s recovery, allowing me to relax a little bit during our Italy trip. I also enjoyed seeing so many of my classmates at the Greene Turtle over Thanksgiving. Jill Guidera Packo created a nice little mini reunion for us, and Cristina Rosell Chakales, Marion Knott, and Charissa Seipp were there to enjoy it! Jill was too busy hosting to join us in the photo, but Danny Cahill and Mike Bagliani stepped in, as did Charissa’s beautiful daughter. All the best in 2020!! DiRo.
Diane in Italia!
Terre Jones Short writes: I have transitioned from the corporate healthcare world, back to my own busi ness (which I operated from 1995-2010). I recently got my PCC (Professional Coach Certification) and now offer, 1:1 executive/ leadership coaching, consulting (leadership development and customer experience), and speaking engagements. I am also starting a business with our kids—The Bulk Mobile. We will start with one truck in Monterey that offers bulk products (shampoo, lotion, detergent, grains, pasta...etc) from a foodtruck style vehicle at farmers’ markets, large companies, universities and weekly neighborhood visits. We aim to reduce single use plastics (Editor’s Note: Read more about Terre’s green initiative in our Hampton
1981

Headliners section). Lastly, I am writing a book, “The Words We Choose” and intend for it to be published by summer. Loving SoCal—let me know if anyone is headed this way!
Marianne Wittelsberger shared this exciting news with me: “In November, [husband Steve and I] were invited to teach in Saudi Arabia at the Center for World Culture in Ithra, as part of the Saudi Prince’s 2030 initiative. There we did the first-ever Special Effects Makeup class in Saudi Arabia. It was an exciting trip and our students loved learning new techniques for HD Film and Television. This summer I was deployed to Mississippi to create ‘Moulage’ (battle wounds and trauma ‘FX’ special effects makeup) for training the military before they were deployed to Afghanistan. Last year we moved to a new home in Hereford, MD; a 200-year-old farmhouse, on several acres of farmland. We love it, and so does our dog Merlin!” Also, they recently worked on a film called “Comedy of Horrors,” filmed in Annapolis. They were the makeup dapartment heads, designing FX and HD makeup for the film! She posted in January: “Jokesters on the cover of the Ben Nye 40 th Anniversary Catalog! It was such an honor to be a part of this cover! Thanks Dana Nye!”
Carolyn Brennan Wescott posted a fun-filled photo on January 25, 2020, at the Gutter Boys’ Charity Bull Roast, an event near and dear to Joan Sweeney’s heart. She captioned the photo: Great gathering of the Class of ‘81 NDP! Photo by Jamie Short features from left to right: Carolyn

NDP Alumna Becca Myers ‘13 set a new world record while representing the United States at the World Para Swimming Championships in London. Fantastic!! Congratulations, Becca, and proud mom Maria Dachille Myers!
Bess Jacobo posted: “At The Dailey Method fitness studio today (September) while here in Towson for my dad and mom, I was in a Barre class and turned to look at a woman to my right—very pretty petite blonde with an unforgettable smile and the brightest blue eyes. We both gasped and smiled when we realized we knew each other but hadn’t seen each other since my wedding in 1987. Oh my! It was so fantastic to run into Susan Valis Faber. We quickly tried to catch up on 32+ years for 30 minutes after class. Afterwards, the people at the studio said that Susan sets the bar for the kindest sweetest client, and they measure everyone by ‘The Susan Faber Standard.’ I suppose some things and some people never change, thank goodness! Just wanted to share how thrilled I was to see Susan today. I found myself wishing that we could be exercise buddies every day!”
In August, Kathy Koliha Harden posted: “At 6:30 last evening I signed the final papers and handed the keys to the new owners. For the first time in 35 years, 28 as the proprietor of Souris’ Saloon, I am officially retired and out of the bar business. It was a wonderful run because of all of you and all of my great kids who worked for me. I’ll miss the the interaction from the thousands of people I’ve met over all these years. It seemed that every day someone from the past stopped in to say hi. You can’t beat that. And Saturday night it seemed like most all of you came back to laugh, reminisce, hug, cry and say goodbye. I love you all. You’ll always be my family. See you in the ‘hood!”’
Tara Reed Carlson posted: “Meeting in the Senate building in Annapolis and had to share Katie Curran O’Malley’s photo. ‘Leaving a lasting legacy;’ and she did.”
In July, I noticed this in the NDP newsletter “Special Kudos” section: “The college Board Recognition Program honored Ginna Krebs Alderman, personal counselor, for her hard work and dedication to helping students succeed.” And because Ginna is so humble, I had to post it!
Maria Federico Calder posted that she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Nursing from Stevenson University. Terrific! Congratulations on earning your second bachelor’s degree! Condolences: Diane Surak Rohan on the loss of her Aunt Sylvia Mensch in April of 2019.
Susan Valis Faber lost her sweet dad Wenceslaus “Jim” Valis to pancreatic cancer on August 17, 2019.

Class of Blue and Green, A big thanks to those of you who sent me some news so I did not have to make up crazy gossip! Over Christmas, Jane Coyle Ballentine, Wendy Strassner and I grabbed some crab cakes together at Koco’s Pub and caught up. NDP girls have the magic ability to jump right back into the swing of things no matter how long it is been since they have seen one another.
Wendy Strassner and her daughters, Kenia and Berlande celebrated 10 years together as a family in January. They are on a quest to visit as many US States as possible, mainly on road trips each summer, and are now at 47 states. Last summer they took a break from the US and hit Europe.
Jane Coyle Ballentine is now the Sr. Director, Development & Communications at The Maryland Zoo. She oversees Media Relations, Membership (both family and Corporate Memberships) as well as Development. She has been back at the Zoo for 12 years now, having worked for the Association of Zoos & Aquariums in between zoo gigs!
Mary Ellen Hasslinger McLaughlin has been selling your grandmothers’ stuff and other finds online for 20 years ... the word is many NDP alum are her biggest buyers! Her instagram handle is the_sassafras_shoppe. She has a talent for recognizing treasures that other people will love for their homes or as gifts.
Colleen Brune Kammar has started her own consulting business providing part time CFO services for small businesses. She is also a ski instructor at Liberty Mountain Resort. Look her up for a lesson. Colleen’s stepdaughter, Lindsey Kammar O’Hara (‘05) has three children (her grandchildren)—twin boys—Flynn and Bennett (3) and a future Blazer, Nellie, who is 2. Colleen also keeps us laughing with stories of raising her boys.
daughter, Julia, is a therapist in Philadelphia with her own office. Her other daughter, Anna, is getting her Master’s degree in Cognitive Neurology in New Zealand. Both are also NDP alumnae, Julia ’10 and Anna ’14. Lisa has a new side job with her own column in the Business Monthly newspaper.
Kelly Cahill Ames claims I guilted her into sending me news, but I just love her story. After a 25-year corporate career as a paralegal and a corporate sales manager for a large accounting firm, she left the business world to pursue her artistic endeavors as a full-time working artist. She is in her 9 th year of creating and selling her art and she could not be happier. She works hard and enjoys every minute of the creative process. She shows her art at various galleries and retail locations in the Baltimore area, sells online and participates in festivals and specialty events. Liz Alessi joined her for a gallery showing with her own creative work and a few of us were able to attend opening night. She has been happily married to her hubs for 28 years and is super proud of her son. You can see her art at amesgroovyart.com
Sue Ellen Sacco Grove’s daughter is loving her sophomore year at NDP. Sue Ellen loves her work for Erickson Living as a Social Media & Advocacy Coordinator. Her personal passion is her Instagram senior style blog. Her goal is to inspire ladies over 50 who may fear becoming less visible as they age, to express themselves through clothing. In addition, to do this in a way that is kind to our environment by choosing vintage and sustainable fabrics. The blog has 900 follow ers and one of the photos will be featured in the premier issue of Ageless Chic Magazine. She also attended Fashion Week in NYC and has gone to a Sustainable Fashion Show. Her instagram handle is @accidentalpublicist. Let’s give her a bunch of new followers!
Debbie Aranaga Castro said she has been facing some health challenges for the past year, but is doing very well on a Hopkins clinical trial. She is working full time and feels great. Recently she changed posi tions with the DOJ where she has worked since 1986 and loves it. On the family front, her son and daughter (twins) will be 25 in February. We all send Debbie healing wishes!
Jane Carroll Wilson’s son Tyler, is a recent graduate from Elon University and ROTC and is now a Second Lieutenant in the US Army. Her other son, Sam, is interning and working on job skills for individuals with disabilities as well as working as an usher at Eaglebank Arena and attending practices with the George Mason University Men’s Basketball team. Sarah, her daughter, is a high school senior and has been a four-year starter on the Girls’ Varsity Basketball and Lacrosse teams, including First Team All-State in lacrosse last year (wonder where her talent came from!). Jane is in her 17 th year as a Senior Director of Quality Assurance in the CEO’s office of EAB, an education consulting company in DC.
Carla DiPasquale DAmato wanted to thank all of her NDP sisters for the visits and support when her mother recently passed. It meant a lot to her and her family. Carla is still enjoying newlywed bliss and coming up with crazy adventures because life is too short.
Susan Sunderland DeFelice and her husband, Rick, won the US Open Swing Dance Championships Masters Division in Burbank California over the Thanksgiving holiday. Everyone needs to check out her videos on Facebook. Their dancing is incredible and their costumes are just what you would think Susan would wear!
Suzanne Bailey Jurich retired from teach ing after 33 years and now works full time at Sinai Hospital in the Labor and Delivery Department. She also babysits her adorable new grandson, Remington Robert Wood, a few days a week. A new granddaughter, Emerson Charli Matthews, joined the family not to long after her grandson.
Kelley Gilmore is another of our classmates who made a bold move. Kelly and her partner, Angela Malicki, moved from Baltimore to just north of San Francisco to pursue a new adventure. Kelley took a job as a studio head for a video game publisher, the first female in the company’s history. She said it was kind of a crazy thing to do in our mid-fifties, especially since both of her kids moved back to Baltimore after college! Here is the link to a great article about Kelly and her new job: https://www.mcvuk.com/ 2ks-kelley-gilmore-on-cloud-chamber-working-on-a-new-bioshock-title-and-being-thefirst-female-studio-head-in-2k-history/
Maria Pulitano is a volunteer at the Church of the Nativity and is a mentor with Sister’s Circle. She started last year mentoring a 6 th grade girl from Baltimore City. Maria will mentor her in this program until she goes to college. The Sister’s Circle program directors are great at planning events, but she also does many other things with her on her own as well. Maria said they are in need of mentors for this year’s class if anyone is interested in volunteering.
Kristyn Lortz Harvey celebrated her 56 th birthday in Costa Rica. She remains an active tennis player and works for F.M. Harvey Construction Company. Colleen Brune Kammar provided this info for her and suggested we send in our friends’ updates instead. I am thinking we may try this in the future!
Claire Freda Eckenrode let me know that everyone in her family is gainfully employed and no one has been arrested! Really, some times, that is all we can hope for (especially during and right after those college years)!

Tony Myers Brennan claims to be boring, but we all know that is far from the truth! She said her sons are amazing, all three of them. (Her middle son and my daughter were delivered by the same doctor within a few hours of one another. L&D is a weird place to bump into a classmate!) She feels blessed to have her NDP sisters who have been so kind and supportive of her and her family throughout the years.
Sherri Bialczak Miller announced that her oldest son was married last year and her youngest son is in the MBA program at Loyola University. He also has his own sports radio talk show, Dialogues with Chris Miller, 1300AM (Friday 6-8pm). Sherri hopes you will stop by and see her at her job with the interior design firm at Greenspring Station called CF Interiors.
Lisa Bogdanski Stinchcomb updated me on The Wayne Stinchcomb Big Orange Melanoma Foundation. She started it after the passing of her husband in 2010 due to a three-year battle with melanoma. This past year the foundation was able to donate $70,000 to the Melanoma Research Alliance where 100% of the money goes to melano ma research. They sold out their first golf tournament in May and had their 10 th Annual Bull & Shrimp Feast in October with over 800 people. Lisa is hoping that they are making a difference and if even one family avoids going through what she and her family went through, it will be worth it.
Jeanne Stanley loves working with clients on their careers, identities, and other life transitions, consulting and training with school districts on BASIS (Belonging & Sociocultural Identities in Schools), and enjoys speaking on her book “Teaching LGBTQ Psychology: Queering Innovative Pedagogy and Practice”. She is having a great time with her wife, Julia, as they begin to spend more days in Vermont in the summer with friends including a week’s vacation this year with Sue Ellen Sacco Grove and her family. She also had the opportunity to borrow her sister Kathy Stanley Wilmot’s (’77) backyard to have a bunch of Class of ’82 friends over for crabs.
As for me, I recently made a job change as well. After 29 years working in Financial Planning and Budgets for the Johns Hopkins Health System, I switched to the Department of Nursing for the Johns Hopkins Hospital.
This brought me back to the beautiful “Dome” building in East Baltimore where I started 29 years ago. Sometimes life brings you full circle.
Although most have heard the news through Facebook or old-fashioned word of mouth, I know there are still many who are not aware that we have lost another dear classmate. Jackie Cossentino passed away in December after an eleven-month battle with colon cancer. According to her hus band, she continued to live life to the fullest up to the end. She dedicated her life to education and was well known for her work with Montessori schools throughout the country. Please keep Jackie’s husband, son, family and friends in your prayers.
In addition to Carla, our condolences go to Tracy Werner Rammacca on the loss of her father. Sadly, we are at the age where we are losing our parents and my apologies if I was not aware of your loss this year.
Wishing you all a fun and happy spring and summer! Karen
