classrooms were ready for

occupancy. For five months faculty and students had watched workmen as they hammered and drilled, painted and tiled, made noise and scattered dirt. However, prayers and patience prevailed as the added facilities provided much needed space.

Confusing changes accompanied the move. Combination locks accounted for delays by the lockers as the girls spun the dials around. New locations for the office and for classes resulted in last— minute dashes. Difficulties arose in ad— justing to the three floors of the new addition within the same span as two floors of the original building. As the year progressed, confusion lessened and students took change for granted.

Besides handling full time administrative duties, Sister also teaches shorthand to the seniors. Yet, she accomplishes all with truly commendable ease.

After the newspaper is planned, written, and typed, our staff can relax a bit; but the work has just begun for the printing company. Pat Carl, Monica Daugherty, and Terrie Jirovsky were three members of the newspaper staff who visited Tie Catholic Quote in Atchison, Kansas, to observe the work involved in printing their paper.

Mary Beth Sedlacek, the editor of Hilltop Hi-Lites is kept occupied assi gning stories and urging the staff to meet the deadline.

The new issue of Hilltop Hi—Lites fills the hardworking newspaper staff with a grand sense of accomplishment. Seniord The last year of high school is an im— portant and an exciting one. The seniors are faced with making many decisions for the future. They regard business classes, college prep courses, and lessons in home economics as important preparations for years to come and carefully consider the choice of a college or the acceptance of a job.

Some of the important events for the seniors include the blessing of the class rings, induction into the Alumnae Association, the junior-senior banquet with the class will and

prophecy, and the senior tea. Seniors are honored to have one of their own classmates serve as president of the Student Council, and they provide leadership for many of the school's clubs and activities.

Looking forward to graduation, the seniors make strong resolutions to keep their present friendships for many years to come. They look back to Notre Dame with joy and thankfulness, and they look forward with a bright hope to fulfill their ideals.

guniord During their third year of high school, girls begin to specialize their interests.

Courses in preparation for college, the business world, or domestic arts are part of the juniors' schedule as well as the required English, religion, and history. NationalMerit Tests and Iowa Tests for Educational Development cause furrowed brows and exhausted memories. The term paper, providing practice in research and footnotes, is another new experience for this hardworking class.

Juniors are especially busy in social affairs. They decide upon a prom theme, the present a prom announcement, choose princesses and queen, and, of course, attend the prom themselves in formal attire. They willingly support school dances, and they are especially happy to attend the Criss-Crosser, the biggest city dance of the year.

New responsibilities are accepted as a matter of course. Safe—Teens becomes an important organization for many juniors as

drivers' licenses.

Part-time jobs are sought by many of the girls who wish to purchase class rings, new formals, or other "necessities” ofhigh school juniors.

Boredom is never a complaint of the juniors. Their active support of Notre Dame and its projects makes them a much-ap— preciated class at Notre Dame.

themselves to their student activities. Together these sophomores puzzle over angles,

circles, and logical proofs; they proudly boast of their biological specimens; they practice time and again for their English and speech recitations.

The sophomores become a large and im— portant part of the Glee Club, as well as

other clubs in the school. Apostolic groups, language clubs, speech contests, and Red Cross all can boast of active sophomores who participate with enthusiasm.

The popular songs and dances of the day are well—known to the radio-carrying sophomores. They can readily identify sing— ing groups and combos, and they are almost unanimous in choosing their favorites. The energetic sophomores play their part in putting the juke—box and the gym floor to good use during their spare time.

Sophomores, who are already amost halfway through high school, begin to realize how quickly these four busy years pass by; and they make use of every opportunity for education and fun here at Notre Dame.

The freshman class is the largest one in the school, boasting 106 members. Being new students at Notre Dame, the freshmen are primarily concerned with meeting their classmates and adjusting to the high school schedule. They find that new courses, such as a foreign language and algebra, require added concentration, and that their many fellow students provide added fun and com-

panionship.

Exciting basketball games and strenuous exercises and special activities of the fresh— men who participate in gym class once every week. They also attend a music class in Which they not only sing together but also learn the history and background of music.

The various clubs and organizations of Notre Dame are new to the freshmen, but the girls do participate as much as they are able. They join Red Cross groups, sodality probation, speech activities, and language clubs. The freshmen add their talents to various school productions, such as talent shows and Christmas plays. They also help in the eighth grade testing day and welcome future Notre Dame freshmen at a Sunday afternoon tea.

Pinning and basting are the basic skills in the art of sewing well.

The play, which made use of modern day dress and almost no scenery, featured Christmas folk songs accompanied on a prepared piano.
