7W“ Beginning high school in autumn 1961, 103 freshmen like little seeds were placed into the NDA environment. Allowed to grow and develop spiritually. mentally, and physically. they soon became vauainted with religious customs as well as the regular gamut of freshmen courses. To this was added ample physical exercise outdoors whenever possible. Joining in the magazine drive. carnival preparations, and Christmas card sales. the youngest and largest class profited from their experiences. Nine months passed quickly and the first fun-filled year at NDA came to a close. :1:

JOURNALISM PARTY

Current events magazines, pens, paper and time aided in the preparation for the annual United Nations Mock Meet at Duchesne on October 23. Representing Czechoslovakia and Poland in current questions on world problems, these seniors spent many hours scanning all available material pertaining to the topics assigned.

An added feature was the fact the LOOK magazine had sent photographers and reporters to cover this unique assembly being held for the 13th consecutive year.

There may not be much left at this pizza party, but L. Finken, A. Goodwin. D. Harrington, M. Salstrand, and B. Beerman act as though it really doesn't matter. Maybe they are discussing what they expect to see at the World-Herald offices after the party.

For Cathy Matcha and Kathi Marsh October 21 rated as a red letter day--Creighton Prep Homecoming. Selected by the seniors as NDA‘s candidates for Homecoming Queen both girls will long remember the cheering and excitement of that fun-filled evening.

Divided into two units. the second largest class par-

ticipated in Religion. math. science. languages. and history classes. Their sophomore year was char-

acterized by an exuberant campaign for class officers who proved themselves capable leaders in scholastic as well as extracurricular activities. Also outstanding was their prompt reporting of absentees.

Time passes and the school year advances to January, February and March. The juniors, blossoming into mature young ladies. are represented by the lovely season of spring.

To the "small but mighty" class, these months brought many hours of planning and preparation for the big event--Prom. Scholastically. the juniors gave evidence of their eagerness to learn. Notre Dame girls find peace and solitude in the chapel all ye around, especially those who sacrifice time for a weekly hour adoration. But on the three days of retreat there is something spe cial in the atmosphere - silence pervades the halls; the usual gaie and liveliness subside at the lunch table.

The story centers about Larry Elliott, a young millionaire engaged to Vivian Smythe-Kersey. In gratitude to a hill-billy friend, who had saved his life, Larry promised to grant any favor the man would ask.

The "favor" turns out to be the care of the hill-billy's now parentless child, Charlie. Larry and his friend Ted expect a four-or-five-yearold boy not a seventeen-year-old girl.

Charlie, innocent ofsociety manners as is her companion, Uncle Aleck, immediately incurs the displeasure of Aunt Fanny. In an effort to get rid of the girl, Aunt Fanny plans a party at which she hopes Charlie's bad manners will embarrass Larry in the presence of his fiancee, her mother, and brother.

While underclassmen, also dressed in white, sang Marian hymns the graduates formed an honor guard for the May Crowning Court.

Chosen by the Sodalists to crown the statue of Mary was Marcella Pospisil with Dolores Preisinger, princess of honor; Linda Finken, first princess; and Janet Driml, second princess. During the chanting of the Litany of Loretto, seniors presented their roses at Mary's altar.

The student body was led to and from the chapel by banner carrier, Donna Hennes; first attendant, Marie Alice Ostry; and second attendant Sue Bartman.

The most anticipated social event of the school year, the ju ior-senior prom, proved to be a grand success for the excit upperclassmen. From coketail parties at the homes of Dia Smith and Sharon Iancik to the coketail party at Notre Dam the prom-goers proceeded to the Peony Park Ballroom. Fro 9 till 12 the girls danced to the delightful music of Eddie Ha dad's orchestra. At 10 attention focused on the grand mar and coronation. Anticipation mounted as princesses Sue Bar man, Elaine Bartek, Janet Driml, Kitty Gunia, and D0u Wiater promenaded With their escorts through the guard juniors and seniors. When Miss Elaine Bartek was crowned 1962 Prom Queen, spontaneous applause broke the tensto Following the coronation, the queen and her court dancedt the theme song, "If Dreams Came True. " .,
