N4N DC was fortunate enough to receive a visit from the BGC members of Las Vegas Nevada! A wonderful group of youth were visiting The Nation's Capital to speak with legislators regarding several political issues. They stopped by clubhouse 14 where they were given a tour, hung out in the studio with Mr. Aman and jammed out! This week we held an all boys writing workshop that included freestyle rap, spoken word, and songwriting. The atmosphere was more comfortable and a few youth who may not have performed prior felt the encouragement and support from their peers during the workshop. Welcome from the West

Girl Power! Back em Up! The girls said they will not be forgotten! Once they took the time to write out their verses, they were a force to be reckoned with. While the ladies give us a stunning rap performance, our young men decided to back them on the keyboard. Together they created a partnership that proved to be stronger than any form of division.

Joseph Green aka Jo Green fell in love with the idea that Alakeh was developing. He began to experiment with drum and bass sounds. Together the two of them created one of the best tracks of the summer so far!

Alakeh! Hey Joseph!

This is the artist known as Alakeh! She plays the keyboard and can work a DAW as well. She did the sound design and composition for the track “Spacesuit”. Her and Jo Green collaborated, inspiring others to follow the creative process.

MaKynzie Thompkins is one of our lead female vocalists, excelling in both singing and songwriting. Watch out for her future releases, most likely featuring her as an artist and producer.

LINER NOTES Washington, D.C. Studio Aman Kenner Meet MaKynzie! Tag Team! N4N DC has an activity called Tag Team where they divide into groups of two, one on the microphone the other on the keyboard. This activity allows them to practice complementing each other through their play vocal performance.

This week Iyana learned about arpeggios! She liked what they brought to the track and how one can be created with a variety of instruments and she was able to play arps at different tempos from one track to the next.

A Helping Hand Arp Queen Here at N4N, there is no shame in asking for a little help. Karson usually plays keyboard but stepped outside of his comfort zone to play drums. In the picture, one of his peers is assisting him in finding his rhythm.

Hip Hop History Tribe and Stuff! While our lesson touched on several artists, the highlight of sampling history was the group known as A Tribe Called Quest! The youth learned the origins of samples used in “The Low End “Theory’ as well as the innovations producer Q-Tip brought to hip hop.

We ended the week with a history lesson. The lesson was on the foundations of sampling. The youth have worked with samples in the past but were unaware of what sampling did for music culture.

LINER NOTES Washington, D.C. Studio Aman Kenner - Produced by 808Jacoby, sound design by Dillon Lynch Kings of Leon! Sometime last week our studio was grateful enough to receive stems from a couple Kings of Leon records! Being that the youth have been learning about sampling since the beginning of summer, this was the perfect opportunity. Have a listen! - Produced by Chance, sequencing done by Alakeh
