Collaborative Beat-Making

N4N alumni & volunteer Salim just released a brand new track called “Your Name.” The song tells a modern love story set to an upbeat backing track featuring some soulful guitar strumming and smooth 808s. You can support Salim by streaming the track on Spotify or Apple Music using the link above!

While our main studio computer has been out-of-service, we’ve been making use of Native Instruments’ Maschine controller to explore and create beats in real-time. 2 of our young members are pictured here taking turns adding to the beat loop to create something never heard before!

Getting Into Guitar

Instrument Exploration

Teen member James has been working on his finger-drumming skills on our Maschine controller this month. I’ve shown him how to edit patterns after recording, but James is more interested in performing beats in real-time and has been making a ton of progress over the last couple weeks. 6-year-old studio member Zael loves coming into the N4N studio everyday and trying out new instruments! Guitar has become one of his favorites to play.

Even though it’s a little big for him, Zael has learned how to change notes on the high-E string and that’s pretty cool!

Our kindergarten through 2nd grade class has been learning about rhythms and exploring different instruments this last month. From drum circles to jam sessions, this group brings great energy to the studio and are always excited to learn something new.
