NOLA ON THE MIC She brings great energy and a musical perspective shaped by her interest in country, folk, soul, and R&B. Here, she’s been exploring R&B-inspired material while learning the recording process, from setting up takes to working through a session. It’s been rewarding to see her get comfortable with the workflow and begin developing her own approach to recording. Experiences like this give youth a chance to explore different styles while building practical skills and confidence in the studio.
NEW FACES & CONNECTIONS We’ve been welcoming some new faces into the studio, including five-year-old Legend, who is already getting comfortable in the drum room. Here, he’s playing the acoustic kit while connecting with other young musicians around him. Early experiences like this give youth a chance to explore instruments, meet other members, and begin feeling comfortable in the studio community.

ALEXANDAR FINDS HIS RHYTHM Alexander has been making good progress as he gets started with guitar and works on the fundamentals of playing. He’s learning the ergonomics of the instrument and getting comfortable with his hands and posture. In the background, Joseph was voluntarily vacuuming and helping clean. It’s a good example of the different ways youth can participate and take ownership of the space.
MATEO BACK FOR ANOTHER SESSION It’s been great to have Mateo returning to the studio for regular lessons. He’s been exploring piano, and drums, with a particular focus on ukulele, where he’s already learning chords and building confidence. Having a consistent place to return to gives youth an opportunity to build skills over time and discover which creative activities they enjoy.
STUDIO AS A PRACTICE SPACE With school back in session, youth like Santiago on trombone are returning to their band programs and bringing those instruments into the studio, too. Our drum room can also serve as a practice space where youth can work on their parts, prepare for class, and continue developing their musical skills outside of school.
