Josh has dedicated an incredible amount of time and focus to his music, and it’s finally paying off with his first official song release. Lifeforms Approaching…, under his artist name Leviathan Class, blends jazz influences with progressive metal. You can check it out on our SoundCloud here. Sharing his work with the group gives the youth a real example of what consistent effort and creativity can achieve.
Bret has been working closely with Josh on Leviathan Class’s next track, Reaper. After tracking bass, they experimented with samples and synths. Some ideas were planned, others were happy accidents :) Watch how Bret’s work is coming together with this behind-the-scenes series (pt. I, II, III, & VI). This gives our youth insight into the production process and shows exploring new sounds is part of creating music.

SHOWCASE PREP
Volunteer Rico brought his vocoder, a device that changes the sound of your voice, from autotune effects to chipmunk or monster voices. Isaiah had fun recording a house track about the hulk. The vocoder helped him experiment with sound in a hands-on ways that sparked creativity.
Rico also shared his synths, which we used to make two Halloween tracks: Spooky Soundscape 1 and Spooky Soundscape 2. Some of those same youth had fun in the studio a different day singing karaoke!
Volunteer Zach has been preparing youth for an upcoming artist showcase, with him teaching Monse guitar, and Bret teaching Katelyn drums. The result was them successfully jamming.
