UNIQUE YOUTH

KIIREN SUMMER MIXTAPE MOISES- TAKE ME HOME
Moises is enrolled in the GED program at Commonpoint, and like many of the GED kids in the building, followed the sounds of music in the building until he discovered our studio! I met him a few weeks ago and encouraged him to come record a track with me after class. Despite this being his first time recording in a studio, it took hardly any convincing to get Moises in the booth for a track. His music is soulful and personal, and dives deep into the themes of love, attachment, and loss. Check out his very first studio recording, “Take Me Home” on our Soundcloud now!
Kiiren is a young lad that raps like he’s been alive for multiple lifetimes. Pursuing music and honing his artistry has always been his priority, and it shows in his deeply provocative and confronting tracks. In his latest EP release, he addresses feelings on family, legacy, ego, and corruption in society. I was fortunate to get the opportunity to work with him and produce his track, “Peach Juice”. Check it out on our Soundcloud.

DRILL KIDS TURN UP FOR FALL JAYDEN & PAT COLLABORATION YOUNG ENGINEERS TAKE CHARGE
RunningastudiointhesouthBronx,Iwouldsaythat at least 70% of music I produce and record falls under the umbrella of drill music. Thus, I have committed myself over the past half a year to understand and master the genre in order to better serve the plethora of talented young rappers coming in every week. Taveon, Shayaire, Jahzaiah, and Kajmire, arejustafewofmanyinmyprogramreally challenging themselves to bring innovation and energy to the drill scene in NY right now. Stay tuned forthereleasesoftheirlatesttracks!

Jayden and Patrick wanted to make a track together that captured the grunge and punk rock aesthetics of the 90s and early 2000’s. We studied how singers of those eras delivered their lines, and worked to recreate a track of that captured a similar energy of youthful angst, heartbreak, and protest. Patrick hopped in the booth with Jayden to write and sing the hook and we cooked up a few catchy pop-punk style tracks over the course of the week. My favorite, “Do It Myself”, is on our soundcloud now.

With the ever-growing pool of talented young artists flooding into our Commonpoint program, the need for engineers to man the mix room is at an all time high. So I’ve been passing my engineering knowledge down to our juniors who watch over my shoulder as I run sessions every day. One day I wanted to push juniors Kaydien and Chris to record and run an entire session without my assistance to see just how much they’d absorbed so far. I was thrilled to see they can now create vocal tracks, record audio, communicate with the artist in the booth, and even check for proper decibel levels!
